Re: Mersenne: GIMPSers in the news

2000-10-13 Thread Paul Landon

Hiya Ernst,

http://www.4thestate.co.uk/cipherchallenge/

There's also a good article in the Daily Telegraph:-

Cheers,

Of course, for me to claim Paul Leyland and Torbjorn
Granlund as GIMPSers is a bit like the flea saying it
owns the dog, but both have had (direct or indirect)
involvement with the project in the past.

Does anyone know the URL of the cracking project website
mentioned in the above article? (There was no link to it
 from the CNN page.)

2000-10-12 Thread Alex Phillips

Dear Ernst,
The site you want is http://www.4thestate.co.uk/cipherchallenge/

The competition is from a book called "The Code Book" by Simon
Singh, and I enjoyed reading it immensely. It's about the history
of cryptography and code breakers, from ancient Egypt to the modern day.

Kind Regards,
 Alex.

P.S. HP have promised us an IA-64 box by Christmas, if you are still
interested.
