[meteorite-list] Brisbane Australia gem show tomorrow

2023-08-11 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
I know that this list has at least a handful members from the brisbane area so
I would like to invite anybody in the area to a nice gem show tomorrow. There
wont be a lot of meteorite dealers but I will have a display of hundreds of
meteorites including a couple museum quality NWAs. Lots of fossils and other
stuff from 60 or so dealers will be available.Show is on Saturday Aug 12th put
on by the Caboolture lapidary club. Just put CABOOLTURE HISTORICAL VILLAGE in
your GPS and it will take you there.
Show is at the Caboolture historical village about a half hour north of
downtown Brisbane. This is a really nice museum about olden day Australia
including lots of old engines, cars and trucks and if you go to the gem show
you have full access to the museum. Really great place to bring kids for a
family outing. Normally it costs $15 entry to the museum but if you go through
the gem club entrance you only pay $5 to go to the gem show and the museum
access is basically free. (They charge around $3 to go on the train ride -
which gets stopped by train robbers who gives everybody a three dollar bill). If
you cant come see my meteorites in person feel free to look over my ebay
auctions (Ebay user id AMUNRE) where I have lots of meteorites at really cheap
prices.Cheers
Dean

[meteorite-list] Bundaberg Australia Gem and Lapidary Fair

2022-11-02 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
I know that there is at least 4 list members in the Brisbane area so I will
make a posting for the club even though most list members are not
interested. But this weekend is the Bundaberg Gem shows put on by the Bundaberg
Lapidary club. Its a good show with upwards of 100 or so dealers and probably
the best show in North Queensland. Its mostly crystals and fossils with a lot
of local australian crystals. There is not a lot by way of meteorites but
usually there is 3 or 4 dealers with a couple meteorites. One show earlier this
year one guy had a gorgous Muirchison the size of your fist (For $25,000) but
that was rare. I will have lots of NWAs ranging from weathered crap really
cheap to a stunning museum quality crusted specimen. Will have several hundred
meteorites mostly pretty cheap. Here is the bundaberg gem clubs facebook website
with all the details:https://www.facebook.com/Bundaberggemandmineralclub/

For those who cant come you can buy lots of cheap NWAs (And other moroccan
stuff like fossils and Fulgurites) from my ebay user id
AMUNREhttps://www.ebay.com.au/sch/amunre/m.html?item=195448076265=nc&_dmd=2
I have over 400 meteorites listed.
If you are in the area email me and let me know you are coming.CheersDean

[meteorite-list] Brisbane australia Gem show announcement

2022-05-12 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
Not sure if there are any list members in australia but if you happen to be in
the brisbane area there is a gem and crystal show on the gold coast this
saturday and sunday (If it dont get weathered out with the rain) . I will be
the only person with meteorites as its a general rock show but I will have some
unclassified NWAs.If any actual meteorite collector wants to show up email me
for details and I will bring some better unclassified NWAs than I plan to bring
to the general rock show. The club shows all seem to be going ahead this year
after the covid madness cancelled most of them the last two years so there
should be a dozen more little rock shows in this area over the next 6 months. If
you cant come you can always search my ebay user id AMUNRECheersDean

[meteorite-list] AD: NWA Meteorites on ebay + other stuff from Morocco - Fossils fulgurites artifacts

2021-12-23 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
I have more than 400 meteorites listed on ebay - mostly unclassified NWAs
selling very cheap. I do have a small amount of classified meteorites but I
usually dont bother with classifying anything because of the difficulty in
getting stuff classified. So you get them cheap.
Also from Morocco I have lots of Paleolithic artifacts and Fulgurites. Also
fossils including dozens of Trilobites. I searched ebay and my Trilobites seem
the cheapest on ebay. I also have a lot of Philippine tektites. 3 or 4 years
ago I bought out a massive collection of Tektites from somebody who lived in
the philippines for 20 years and it was his lifelong accumulation. I still have
a few but starting to run low now and these Tektites that I have been selling
off cheap is probably not something that I will ever be able to replace once I
run out - especially since there are now restrictions on exporting them. Most
are on my ebay user id AMUNRE but still a few listed on my other user id
KANGAROOOPALSOn the higher priced items I might be able to do a better price so
send me an email if you are interested in the pricier ones.CheersDean

[meteorite-list] Meteorite picture

2021-11-18 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
Several months ago I sent this to the met list asking what people thought it
was. I had a couple dozen guesses so I thought that I would let everybody know
what it is. I had some strange guesses but most people (including myself)
thought that it was an enstatite - especially given the strong magnetism.I
finally got it classified and much to my surprise (And disappointment) it is a
(Very metal rich) H chondrite. It is now officially NWA14240If somebody is
interested in buying some I just listed 18 specimens of it in ebay. Just do a
ebay search on NWA14240 or search one of my ebay user id's AMUNREAustralia has
the worlds highest postage costs and if you only buy one lot postage is a bit
high so look over my hundreds of other ebay NWA lots and if you buy multiple
lots postage is not such a huge amountCheersDeanAMUNRE and KANGAROOOPALS on ebay

See two photos. Anybody have any guesses as to what it is or recognise it as
paired with something? Very strongly magnetic - closer to an iron than a H

will be probably 3 or 4 people selling meteorites but not a lot as its a

[meteorite-list] AD: PHILIPPINE TEKTITES ON EBAY - As mush as 310 Grams

2019-03-17 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
I have just listed 80 philippine tektites on ebay.See
here:http://www.ebaystores.com/The-AmunRe-Museum/_i.html?_nkw=tektite=Search&_sid=1598024

My prices are lower than anybody else on ebay or any website that I could
find. These have gotten rarer and you now need a permit to take them out of the
philipines. (Mine have all been exported several years ago before the
restrictions came into effect). Its not hard to get a permit but a bigger
reason that these will get rarer is because they have gotten harder to find.
Farmers are not finding them on the top of their fields anymore. A few years
ago the chinatown bric a brac sellers had bucket fulls of these. Now its very
hard to find any.I would expect prices to go up over the next couple of years
as they get rarer.See my ebay user id AMUNRESincerelyDeanPS: While you are at

[meteorite-list] Bisbane Australia Gem Show

2018-05-04 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
I am not sure how many (If any) list members are in Australia but one of
Australia's better gem and mineral shows takes place this weekend in North
Brisbane. Known as the Redcliffe gem and lapidary show there are around a
hundred dealers with stalls selling all sorts of rocks - many are fossikers who
are selling items that they found themselves. There are lots of Opals in
particular (As you would expect from an Australian rock show)But  quite a wide
variety of Australian minerals will be on display and for sale.
Redcliffe Gem & Mineral, Jewellery & Craft Show
When   5 & 6
Where  Southern Cross Catholic College, Kippa Ring
Times   Sat 9 am – 4pm

Its about a 45 minute drive from downtown Brisbane. Turn off at the signs that
say Redcliff (Same exit as IKEA - you cant miss the IKEA sign on the highway)
There will not be a huge amount of meteorites for sale (And probably none from
Australia) but there should be 4 or 5 dealers with a small amount of
meteorites. At a show two months ago one dealer had the nicest 300 gram
Millbillillie I have ever seen but that was unusual to find something like that
at an Australian gem show. I will be there and will have a small assortment of
NWAs that you can look over.
If anybody does come it would be nice to see list members from Australia. I am
the very first stall that you see as you enter the building (Behind the lady
who will take your several dollar entry fee)
Hope to see somebody. Will post some photos to the list if anybody shows up.
cheersDeanPS: For those unable to come see my ebay auctions for hundreds of
NWAs really cheapI am AMUNRE on Ebay

[meteorite-list] Meteor streaking across the sky in Australia this morning

2016-09-26 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
Headline story here in Queensland Australia this morning is people reporting
earthquakes and fireballs over a several hundred mile area (Including one
report of balls of fire reining down from the sky so the media has gone just a
wee bit overboard on this story)
Here is a story from one of the more reliable news sources in case somebody is
interested in reading it.

Re: [meteorite-list] Another warning re sales to Italy

2016-07-26 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
Well Joachim yes one would normally use common sense and agree with you.
When I stopped sending to Italy 7 or 8 or so years ago I kept track and had 7
of the previous 10 packages to Italy lost in the mail and had to deal with a
paypal chargeback (And some negative feedbacks on ebay). I figured that 7 of
ten cancelled out the benefit of lost sales so I stopped shipping to Italy.
I never sent another package to Italy until about two years ago when this
Davide Urbinati person emailed me wondering why I don't send to Italy and that
it as safe to send him stuff. I agreed to the sale and sent him the $300 worth
of Bensour via Registered mail with a tracking number.
At the same time I thought "This is silly - blocking all those potential
Italian customers from bidding because of a few losses in the mail 5 or 10
years ago. So I unblocked all of Italy and let Italians buy from me again. Over
the next several months (Plus Davide Urbinati's theft of my Bensour) three of
the four packages that I sent to Italy resulted in a paypal chargeback. And not
one of them sent me an email before filing the chargeback with paypal. Like
shopping mall owners having to deal with shoplifting you generally just write
it off as paypal always refunds the money so I again just blocked Italy from my
auctions.
Normally I get maybe 3 or 4 chargebacks a year and I sell thousands of items a
year on ebay. So even now I no longer accept bids from people in Italy.
This theft of the $300 worth of Bensour is memorable and a bit of a sore point
with me because its the largest ever loss through a paypal chargeback that I
have ever had and it was after I made a decision to never send stuff to Italy
again. I almost blame Davide Urbinati for the following three losses from ebay
sales not related to him for the following 3 ebay chargebacks to other Italy
bidders.

So yes your comment that "Italy has more than 60 Million people. Most are
honest and kind." should be correct (I really loved Italy the couple times that
I have been there and so want to go back) but there is a statistically
significant issue with sending mail to Italy. You will find that its not just
me but many ebay sellers wont send stuff to Italy so I am not the only ebay
seller with an unusual amount of problems with mail to Italy. The only thing
that I can figure is that there must be a bunch of mafia gangs preying on mail
sellers as I have a very hard time believing that the Italian post office is
that bad and loses such a huge amount of mail. I don't know why so many mailed
packages to Italy results in losses but for some reason they do.

But for now I don't generally send mail to Italy.

Sincerely
dean

[meteorite-list] Two Australian Gem and Mineral Shows this month

2016-07-04 Thread dean bessey via Meteorite-list
I am not sure if there is actually any list members in Australia but if there
are any on Australian East coast within a couple hour drive there are two
worthwhile gem shows over the next two weekends.

This weekend is Hervey Bay Saturday and Sunday. The Hervey bay gem club is
putting off their annual show and this usually goes quite well and activities
for the kids. This is one of my favorate shows. Whales are in season now as
they migrate up Australias coast so that would be a great activity to partake
in along with the gem show.

Next weekend (On Saturday) is the Caboolture gem show which is run by the
Caboolture gem club. This is also one of Australias better gem shows. This is
held at Historic Village and a nice benefit to going to this this show is that
you get free access to Historical Village which is a particularly good museum
of artifacts from late 1800s Australia up to around WW2 including a 1910 School
house (Including a reproduction of an outhouse), old cars, communication
equipment etc. For the kiddies there is a train ride that gets attacked and
robbed by 1800s style train robbers.

The two shows are more crystals and minerals and lots of local minerals but
there is usually 3 or 4 dealers selling a few meteorites. I will have some NWAs
(If I know you are coming can bring lots of NWAs).

Caboolture is in north Brisbane and Hervey bay is about 4 hours north (An hour
south of Bundaberg)

Email me if you want more information
Cheers

Re: [meteorite-list] TKW OF THE TATA MARTIAN - Predict $100 Martians

2011-12-31 Thread dean bessey
I am going out on a limb and predict that we are about to see $100 martian.
Probably less. Dont believe anybody who tells you there are only four kilos.
I could be wrong with that price guess (Especially if some goovernment museum
decides to buy it all up) but this is currently all held by the moroccans who
want to sell it and not just sit on it like with some other meteorites that
remain overpriced because a small number of people are hoarding in (Or
Investing in it). I think martians are way overpriced as it is even without
this fall.
This will be very close to being the largest ever Martian meteorite (If not the
largest). And its all for sale.
I started getting offers a short while ago at over $400 a gram and the
wholesale price is well under $200 already. As with all meteorites in Morocco
when you get offers that offer is always The last thats available so you
better buy now. That has happened to me more often than I can count so I dont
believe a word that comes out of Morocco anymore.
My advice is to hold off on the current overpriced offerings and wait until
Tucson (Which I predict will be flooded with the stuff).
I have a leftover Martian from a few years ago (Where there really is very
little more available) that I have started on ebay at $161 a gram (Or buy it
now at $241) - See my ebay auction #190621515662). If you think that the new
fall will create lots of martian interest and drive up the price this is a rare
opportunity to get some cheap (Cheaper than I paid for it) but me, I think that
Martians are about to become reasonably priced and am getting out while I can.
Of course if some government agency buys it all up dont blame me if you missed
out on a really nice martian fall cheap. Goldman Sachs is not always right in
the price predictions either.
Cheers

Re: [meteorite-list] Thin section not so thin...

2011-10-30 Thread dean bessey
As a ebay seller of thin sections I thought that I would respond to this. I
should point out that it wasnt me that David bought his thin section from, I
dont know who he bought them from, dont know anything about his thin section
and am in no way commenting on any other seller when I write this.
It should be pointed out that in order to be a Thin Section it does not have
to be 30 microns. Thin Sections are extensively used by various scientific and
commercial organizations for various purposes and in particular mining and
petroleum companies make great use of thin sections.
Depending on what you are trying to do different thickness's might be most
useful. For meteorite classification purposes it must be 30 microns as the
light will be different from what it is supposed to be if it is some other
thickness (All of my own thin sections are 30 microns). There are other
standard thicknesses and 100 microns I believe is the most common (And possibly
cheapest to make). 50 and 200 micron thickness thin sections are also standard
thicknesses (But meteorite people rarely would want one this thickness).
We on this list are most familiar with 30 microns because thats the thickness
thats needed for meteorite classifications. If you were working as a geologists
with a petroleum company you might be more familiar with 100 micron thin
sections.
I suspect that the thin section David bought was made to a different standard
than for what you usually need for meteorites. It would be odd to be exactly
another standard thickness if it was just a poor job. (For example if it was
say 85 microns I would probably say that it was a poor job as probably nobody
would ever make a thin section that thickness no matter what the planned use
was)
I would also like to comment on the price of thin sections. You will notice
that my meteorite thin sections are priced cheaper than most other sellers
(Started on ebay as low as $29.95). When I left Canada 7 years ago I left a
container of stuff in storage which I only got earlier this year. Since it was
all paid for more than half a decade ago I am selling off a lot of it with no
regard to my cost or replacement value. My thin sections fall in this catagory.
I cant replace thin sections and make money at $29.95.
I will not get into a slugging match by saying mine are better than other
people and you should pay more for mine because of that but if you do see thin
sections cheaper than what I currently have listed I would be suspicion and ask
questions before I buy. Its possible that somebody in a country where labour is
cheaper can make them cheaper than me (Although I would love to know if anybody
does find a place)
Questions that you should ask are:
(1) Thickness. Are they 30 micrions, 100 micron or some other thickness (I am
assuming that the seller would know this)
(2) Are they Polished? Unpolished thin setions can easily be made for under
$20. It costs as much to polish them as it does to cut them. Both have their
uses but polished ones are twice as expensive (And needed if you want to get
the meteorite classified).
(3) Do they have a cover slip? If you will carbon coat them and put them in a
microprobe (Needed if you buy one of my Thin scetion kits on ebay and send it
for classification) you DO NOT want a cover slip. If you are just using them
with a standard microscope and showing them in schools you might want the cover
slip so it wont get scratched.
Hope this helps somebody
Sincerely
DEAN (AMUNRE on ebay)

 Hello list,

A few weeks ago I bought a NWA869 thin section from an eBay
 seller.

The seller is not Mirko Graul (excellent thin section
seller, excellent person, my favorite  thin section
provider) nor any known thin section seller of this list, OK
 ?

When received it looked darker than usual and after
measuring thickness it was 100 micrometers instead of 30.
I just contacted the seller to prevent it from selling more
thin sections like this and having problems with costumers,
but in a educational and collaborative way, as I think he
was new in thin sections and did not know about the
 problem.
The thin section was really cheap, so I keep it, no
 problem.

Ok, well, my help claim is because I want to grind that
thin section to 30 micrometers and I think the best way is
to do it the same way as I did when I grind my telescope
mirror, using a second glass as a grinding tool.
 Any suggestions?
Do I use carborundum 2000 or Aluminium Oxide?

 Thank you.

Re: [meteorite-list] NWA 001 question

2011-06-13 Thread dean bessey
NWA001 is a single stone just over a kilo. It was part of a very will mixed
group of meteorites that was sold by retired meteorite dealer Michael casper. I
cut NWA001 all up mostly into slices (Except for a 160 gram endpiece which I
believe that Adam Hupe ended up with that was once the main mass but I believe
that he cut it up and sold on ebay in pieces).
I guess theoritically some parts of that end piece could look something like a
half stone if it is flat enough but to call it a half stone seems to be
stretching it. Maybe send me a photo and I can say if such a shape is possible
to be from the original stone..
But otherwise there is no such thing as a half stone of NWA001. I still have a
third of it somewhere so the total amount in collectors hands is well under a
kilo. The biggest piece possibly remaining is the 160 something odd gram (I
cant remember exactly the size) piece that Adam once had (Or possibly still
has) and very little of it wasnt cut into slices (And from there mostly into
smaller ebay size pieces).

[meteorite-list] Tasmania Australia Rock show announcements

2011-03-08 Thread dean bessey
My father is visiting me from Canada for a couple months and all his life has
wanted to visit Tasmania so I have to bring him. By sheer coincidence there
were two annual rock and mineral shows going on while we were going to be
there. So I decided to get stalls at both shows.
I am not sure how many people who could go to this but I know that there are at
least several list members from Tasmania and a few meteorite collectors on the
shipwreck island but I would like to announce two Rock shows that I will be
attending in the next few weeks. I will have mostly gemstones and crystals but
will have a few meteorites so drop by if you will attend. Its a perfect time of
year to visit beautiful Tasmania.
Rock shows are:
--
Sat 19 March - Sun 20 March 2011 - Hobart Tasmania
The Hobart Gem and Mineral Spectacular 2011 - Tasmania’s Hidden Treasures -
presented by The Lapidary Club of Tasmania Inc, supported by The Mineralogical
Society of Tasmania,
Grandstand Hall, Hobart Showgrounds, Glenorchy, Tasmania
---
And the next weekend
Sat 26 March - Sun 27 March 2011 - Latrobe, northern Tasmania
'The Latrobe Gem and Mineral Fair', organised by the Devonport Lapidary Club,
at the Latrobe Memorial Hall, Gilbert Street, Latrobe, Tasmania

[meteorite-list] Brisbane Floods

2011-01-14 Thread dean bessey
I have spent much of today and yesterday responding to emails from well wishers
asking if I am OK in the floods so I will give my own first hand account twenty
miles or so from ground zero.
I am happy to report that we are all fine and not a part of what your front
page news is currently showing but we had a much to close for comfort close
call.
Its been raining for weeks and 3 weeks or so ago the news was 5 or 6 hours
north and inland where the news showed people being rescued from rooftops by
helicopter but other than the news and lots of rain we werent really affected.
About two weeks ago here the rain picked up - a lot. Torrential rain kept
coming but other than no access to outdoor activities we werent really
affected. I pretty much have lived on ebay recently anyway. The roads have been
closed regularly up north and sunday the road a few miles north of me was
closed. Everywhere north of me was cut off except by helicopter.
Monday, in Toowoomba, a town a hundred miles inland from Brisbane is when the
international news started showing you pictures of brisbane. A meters high wall
of water and mud out of nowhere suddendly leveled Toowoomba's business district
and left carnage in its wake. Towns downstream were devestated and thats when
you got all that video footage of cars being swept everywhere and helicopters
rescueing people. I started regularly hearing helicopters flying low as they
search for people needing rescue. A local news channel made a video of a family
on the top of a white van flowing down a raging river hundreds of meters wide.
That video probably was the biggest most graphic image of the floods and the
premiers office and news stations were all inundated with calls wondering how
they were. Yesterday the premier reported at a news conference that the mom and
9 year old boy was rescued but when the helicopter returned for dad he was gone
and is now listed as
missing. If he ever turns up in one piece it will be the biggest rescue story
of the floods and he will get rich being interviewed by oprah and similar
people but it probably wont happen.
This is all nearby to me and in places that I am very familiar with but in
reality its all just news to me.
Sunday night my chickens house got flooded and I moved them to a small unused
shed for a temporary accomodation.
Tuesday morning my wife comes is saying that we have a pond in the back yard.
Water has made it to the new chicken home and I piled up some pallets for them
to live on. All eight of my usually very pampered chickens spends a couple of
sad, soggy and miserable days with no roosts camped out on the top of a stack
of pallets. They are not happy chickens.
There is a little creek that overflowed its banks a short distance from me and
water is slowly coming up to a storage shed and in the extremily vicious
thunder storm convinces us to pile things up in case it gets flooded. I still
have hundreds of boxes unopened from the move from New Zealand last year so we
decide to put the fragile and valuable stuff on top of the less valuable boxes
and as we are done we get a standardized government text saying that there are
flash floods near us and that we are advised to report to an evacuation centre
nearby. A couple minutes later we lose both phone and internet (Our cell phone
company apparantly had a building full of equipment flood and I never did find
out why we lost internet).
Then, just before noon some lady from the preschool where my two kiddies are at
knocks on the door saying they have been trying to call me and that I have to
go pick up the kids quick as the police had ordered the schools
closed and any kids not picked up would be taken to an evacuation centre
because they were not going to let the kids be there by one occlock which was
high tide and they were worried about what would happen during high tide.
Back home the water slowly comes up my yard. Like the tide. Not a bit of wind
and almost calm except for the buckets of water raining down. Water is getting
very close to flooding us. My eight chickens are huddled together on top of the
pallet all wet and miserable and the water is within inches of flooding us to.
Its getting close to the 1PM high tide and we wonder if the water will keep
coming after high tide. We are a good ten miles from the sea. I am 4 inches
from getting flooded but luckily that 4 inches of concrete saved me. Just two
streets down from me the streets just a bit lower and closer to the (Now not so
little) creek have the police going down the street in boats looking for people
who need help or evacuation.
The water goes down pretty fast after high tide and while still soggy by 3PM
there is no longer a pond in my yard. The rain also stops for a while and over
the next hour we hear low flying helicopters a few times.
4:30 I go into town (only a mile away) for pizza (Tuesday is cheap pizza day).
Some roads are blocked and others are 4WD roads only.

[meteorite-list] AD: Christmas Ebay Sale - Plus Minerals

2010-12-09 Thread dean bessey
After taking a month off to vacation in the Philippines and Singapore I finally
have my ebay auctions up and running again.
I have over a hundred NWA meteorites and for the mineral collector lots of
minerals now listed on ebay.
Over the next few days I should have at least a hundred more NWas listed so
keep looking at my auctions for the newest deals.
I have made all of my buy it nows changed to a 12% Discount for the 12 days of
chrismas so grab some deals now.
On another note is anybody interested in a large quantity of Lapiz Lazuli (from
afghanistan) chips - 3 to 20 grams each?. Really cheap (Only $5 a kilo) but
shipping is a lot unless you buy 500 or a 1000 kilos.
Some large tumbled pieces available also. Prices when I actually get it but
around $50 a kilo.
I also have hundreds of kilos of hessonite, aventurine and Rose quartz at
unbelievanly cheap prices.
Those minerals just cleared customs a few minutes ago and I will have them
monday or tuesday.

Re: [meteorite-list] You Naysaying Denialists Are All Wrong, Dowsing Works!

2010-10-17 Thread dean bessey
OK, here is what needs to be done.
(1) Get 10 non see through buckets that wont even show shadows.
(2) Get ten items. A couple meteorites, toys, other crystals etc
(3) Make sure that the person with the dowsing rod knows exactly what all the
items are like so that he/she can properly view them and therefore possibly get
vibes from the items.
(4) make dowser leave the house for a while
(5) Accomplice will then spread the ten buckets throughout the yard hiding one
of the ten items under each bucket.
(6) Dowser returns home and looks at all buckets but not knowing what is under
what bucket.
(7) Accomplice has video camera ready
(8) Dowser then does his thing over the buckets trying to identify where the
meteorites and other stuff is located
(8a) While #8 is in progress accomplice is video taping the entire thing. It is
important that the video is under ten minutes long and less than 100 megs in
size
(9) Upload video to Youtube so that we can all see the results (Size and length
of video noted in #8a is important because of youtube limitations.
(10) we can then all comment/criticize/ make judgments on video test.

It should be noted that in 1902 some German scientists wrote a paper that some
non distinct rocks lying haphazardly around could be turned into energy that
could power houses (And later submarines and spaceships). After paper was
written scientists extensively laughed at and ridiculed. Turning rocks to
energy they said. Sounds a lot like turning lead into gold.
If said scientists was alive today he would marvel at walking through one of
hundreds of power plants that supply much of the worlds electricity that was
powered by his special rocks (Uranium).

[meteorite-list] AD: NWA sale, ebay discounts and one cent sale

2010-10-17 Thread dean bessey
In about a weeks time I will be shutting all my ebay auctions down for a month
of traveling and am trying to raise some last minute cash.
I have this sale site put together:
http://www.meteoriteshop.com/rocksale/rocksale.html
All the unsold stuff will go on ebay at about a 20% premium to this when I
return but its now cheaply priced as I dont have ebay fees or have to deal with
their other bizarre issues. For example on ebay Bassikonou is all $3 to $4 a
gram but I have it priced on my website at only $2. Lots of non meteorite
offerings for the general rock collector on that page also.
Note that site is not going to be very friendly to dial-up users as there are a
lot of pictures.
Also, I would rather sell the ebay items than shut them down so I have a 10%
discount now on all my ebay Buy it nows. See my user id AMUNRE for some great
deals.
Lastly, I have a couple dozen ebay auctions started at a penny and many are
still there so see my auctions for some possible great deals.

[meteorite-list] Australian Rock Show Announcement

2010-09-10 Thread dean bessey
Not sure how many list members live in Eastern Australia but if you do you
might want to come up to Bribie Island just north of Brisbane for the Bribie
Island Gem and Fossiking clubs annual rock and gem show.
They have a big show and a lot of dealers and its one of the major rock shows
in the australian rock show circuit.
For those not familiar with bribie Island it is a large island about an hours
drive north of Brisbane which has become a major retirement and lifestyle area
with a endless array of artificial waterways where a few thousand half million
dollar houses have a private pier where you can park your yacht in your back
yard and where there is an awesome of road 4WD track. Its a really nice place.
I will probably be the only person with meteorites but there will be lots of
rocks and crystals. Mostly I will be selling loose gemstones. I will be outside
with the tailgaters as I need more space than inside and we will be camping
onsite. My kiddies are already excited about roasting marshmellows which we do
every time we go camping. If coming bringing beer would be appropriate.
Cheers

Re: [meteorite-list] ASU suspends public meteorite identification program

2010-09-08 Thread dean bessey
As somebody who started a fee based classification service with Ray at Bathurst
Observatory I can shed a little light on what it would actually take to get
quick classifications done.
Most (Many anyway) list members know that I started a classification service
several years ago with Ray. Its not shut down so technically I am still running
it but we are no longer taking new classifications.
The delay is getting microprobe results. We were promised a 8 week turnaround
when we started with the microprobe results and in return we would work with
the university to build up a meteorite collection.
We had a couple committed scientists on board who genuinely love meteorites and
the plan was to work together.
Two things went against us. Budget cutbacks was the main one. But also the
mining industry started needing more microprobe analysis of their own. Unlike
meteorite people on a budget the mining industry is paying millions of dollars
a day for mining equipment. Australia has avoided the worldwide recession and
its all on the back of the mining industry. A few extra thousand dollars for
quick microprobe results is a lot less to the mining company than paying for
idle equipment sitting around waiting for microprobe results.
The mining companies are paying around $350-$400 for their microprobe results
(And then they have their own analysis people adding more to their cost).
How does this affect my classification service? Well, since we are not paying
$400 a day we keep getting our results bumped to the back of the line until
microprobe time is available. A crash in mineral prices and a worldwide
recession might free up microprobe time for us.
Becides the microprobe results you need somebody capable of reading the results
to make a classification (In my case thats my partner Ray).
He obviously wants to be paid for that half hour or an hour part of the work, I
want some profit to and there is other minor costs like postage costs, bank
(Paypal in particular with meetorite classifications) fees, computer equipment,
cost of making a thin section etc.
So to sum things up for around $500 to $600 each (I havent bothered working on
exact costs as nobody will pay that anyway) I have the ability to start a
meteorite classification service and have a very fast several week turnaround
time.
Somebody with access to equipment in Europe or the USA where the mining
industry is not hogging all of the equipment may or may not be able to beat
this. I dont know but I doubt it would be a lot less unless it is with help
from some scientist who is undercharging for work because of an interest in
meteorites.
Scientists doing classifications for free obviously get a type specimen and
recognition that comes with classifying a new witnessed fall and this has value
in itself reducing the cost below $500.
But its because most meteorite people (Myself included) wont pay $600 to get a
quick classification that we have to wait years to get classification results
on NWAs. For me this is very frustrating and for the most part I dont even
bother trying to classify stuff anymore. Nobody is really to blame. This is
just what it costs to get stuff done and the meteorite world dont live in a
vacuum and quarter million dollar microprobe machines are used for lots of
things other than classifying meteorites (And at $400 a pop and with government
funding cutbacks a lot of them is increasingly being used to do work for mining
companies). We are lucky that there are scientists who love meteorites enough
to get classification results anyway. And its not a one way street as they get
benefit to. But a for profit meteorite classification service that just runs
strictly on its own economics is not a viable business plan (Not until enough
people are willing to pay $600 each
 to make it worthwhile).
Somebody should lobby government and try to secure a couple million dollar
grant to study meteorites. You can bet there would be plenty of qualified
scientists willing to work full time on meteorite studies. It would certainly
increase meteorite knowledge with all of the NWAs floating around. You could
make a serious arguement that it would help more than all the millions spent on
the Antarctic meteorite program (Although of course everybody wont agree on
that and in reality there should be a plan for both places) but you would get a
lot more material to work with in NWA.
But NWAs are running out now and the opportunity to set this up has mostly been
lost now anyway.
In the meantime I am waiting for microprobe slots to get the results of the
classifications my own classification service has submitted thats been running
over two years now (But I am promised that it will get done soon).
Sincerely
DEAN

[meteorite-list] Rock Show Announcement

2010-08-02 Thread dean bessey
For those of you in Eastern Australia (And especially for those going to the
huge Emerald show in two weeks - I would like to let you know that I will be at
Cooloola Rockfest this weekend 6th, 7th and 8th.
It is just south of Gympie and about two hours drive north of Brisbane.
Here is some photos from last years show:
http://www.coolrocks.com.au/rockfest.htm
I am not sure what, if any, meteorites that I will be bringing but if there
will be meteorite people there let me know.
Should be a good time and would be great to meet some of my many Australian
customers. Maybe we can do in a guinness or two (Or three).
For those non australian list members the winter in australia is an exciting
time for rockhounds. For around three months you can drive around and go to a
different rock show almost every weekend if you wanted to. Weather is not to
hot, its the dry season, the snakes are all hibernating, and rockhounds all
congregate.
This cooloola show is one of the better shows on the rock curcuit.
I wont be going to Emerald the following weekend for the grand show but if you
do be sure to go looking for sapphires. They are really easy to find and even
my four year old found several dozen sapphires in a couple hours of searching.
Should be a grand time and hope that I can see at least a few list members at
cooloola this weekend
Cheers

Re: [meteorite-list] USB 2.0 mp Digital Camera

2010-07-06 Thread dean bessey
Last week I got a
Veho VMS-004 Deluxe 400x USB Powered Microscope 1.3MP
Which I bought of ebay for $43
Here is some photos I took.
http://www.meteoriteshop.com/photos/microphotos.html
You will notice on the meteorite photo that the image is blurry around the
edges.
The segments in my ruler is 1/2mm so as you can imagine the stuff is pretty
small. I never knew there was anything between the fossil stingray teeth for
example.
I am getting (Just barely) passable gemstone photos for ebay auctions but the
field of view is so small that it will only work up to about a 4 or 5 carat
stone. There is some fiddling that I am doing though and will probably figure
things out as I use it more.
It does have an adjustable light strength which is good (I can even turn the
light completely off). This is a nifty feature that many (Especially the ones
sold at coin fairs) dont seem to have.
I probably should have got a more expensive one but even at $43 it is better
than several others that I have used that cost over $100 so this thing is good
value compared to some others anyway.
There dont seem to be a on/off switch and you have to pull it out of the ubs
port to turn it off.
Cheers
DEAN

Re: [meteorite-list] ATTENTION: Scientists and Researchers Who Classify Meteorites.. Urgent

2010-03-30 Thread dean bessey
This is a serious reason why people dont bother with getting all data possible
with meteorites. It would be great if some lesser standard would be accepted as
a classification (Especially on common chondrites). Many people (Myself
included) dont even bother with such issues anymore. I cant even get
achondrites done within a year.
I tried to start a classification service about 4 years ago after being
promised a eight week turnaround by a couple places in australia but that
unfortunately never worked out and we are no longer accepting new submission
(Although the ones currently outstanding we have been promised Within two
months for three years now.
However, in a big cosmic coincidence, four years ago, when I announced the
grand opening of my meteorite classification service Marvin Killgore on the
very same day announced to this list that he to would within a very short time
also have a for fee classification service that he would be doing himself as he
was in conjunction with some institution and has the expertise and access to
all of the equipment to do so.
I would assume that since more than a few weeks have passed in the last four
years since he announced the imminent opening of his fee based classification
service that it is now up and running so I assume that the man to contact for
classifications nowadays is Marvin Killgore. I dont have his email address but
somebody should be able to find it easily I am sure.

 Hello,

I am in need of a serious person or institution to classify
meteorites. I believe the time has come for a fee
based classification service to be offered. The revenue
gleaned from such activity could provide income to
work-study students, provide scholarships for students who
are studying the meteoritic sciences and most certainly the
fee could help offset the expense of such classifications in
 the first place.

The problem I have in recovering meteorites from the field
is that after I give a farmer $10,000 dollars for their
meteorite, I usually have to wait up to 2 years for the
classification results. This is not much of an incentive to
invest in many new discoveries. In fact, I have 4 new
possible recoveries that I could purchase, but not having a
timely classification service makes for difficult
choices. I usually just say to myself-I can't afford
to have 5k into this meteorite for 2 years with no return.
Does not make good business sense and overall not really
 good for science either.

 I propose a $250.00 to $500.00 per meteorite classification
fee. Checks made out to whatever scholarship or
department fund you see fit. Done in a timely manner
of 3 months or less. Anyone out there interested, please
 respond to me off list.

 Thanks and Best Wishes

Re: [meteorite-list] Tsunami alert (Report)

2010-02-27 Thread dean bessey
Well, hundreds of people here in Auckland camped out on a hill waiting for the
tsunami. A dozen or so people refused to heed the warning and graciously stayed
on the beach so that we could all have good video. A cruise ship was moved from
the pier and anchored off in the harbour and all ferries in the city was
canceled. Hundreds of yachts was out in what is a stunning beautiful summer day
today.
Unfortunately the tsunami was a bust and nobody on the beach got nominated for
a darwin award.
We got 2 or 3 minutes of heavy waves in an otherwise beautiful calm day with
the water like glass.
See here the photo of the extent of the tsunami in Auckland. The calm was
broken for a couple minutes and the waves never even went up the beach.
http://www.meteoriteshop.com/pictures/tsunami.jpg
We did however have a really nice picnic in the park with my two kiddies. You
can see the tsunami in the background in this photo behind my two kiddies who
are sitting on a WW2 gun.

[meteorite-list] Museums Keeping meteorites dry

2010-02-02 Thread dean bessey
I am advising an institution here in New Zealand who is planning to put
together a world class meteorite collection for public display. They already
have a dozen or so meteorites on display (Mostly donated by dealers like Haag
who has a thank you next to the specimens already there) but they are going
to put together what will surely be New Zealands greatest meteorite collection
when complete.
The question is what should they be displayed in and what type of climate
control is necessary.
New Zealand dont get overly hot or cold so temperature will not be an issue but
Kiwis go to London for a nice dry vacation where it doesnt rain all that much.
It seems to rain all the time here and humidity is often very high.
I have some ideas but please let me know what you think would be best and what
meteorite types in particular need special climate control.
They are putting the display together before acquiring the specimens so want to
get it right from the start.
Any advice or ideas that would help keep this public meteorite display from
crumbling in the high humidity would be greatly appreciated
Sincerely
DEAN

Re: [meteorite-list] Lunar for $200/g

2009-12-30 Thread dean bessey
I am not going to make any comment on wither it is genuine or not but for
purposes of this email I will assume that it is genuine. Assuming its genuine
$50 for shipping (Fed Ex?) dont sound excessive. I couldent ship anything from
here fed ex for $50 for example.
Note also that seller doesnt appear to be very ebay savvy and probably could
use a tutorial on using ebay.
He has the whole 256 gram meteorite started at $200 but from his description it
is obvious that he wants $200 a gram (Actually a starting price of over
$50,000) but he has actually started the auction at $200 for the whole thing
(Ebay rules wont let you list it the way he wants to).
Somebody (Aziz in morocco maybe) might want to help the poor guy out and
explain to him how to list things the way that he wants to on ebay.
Cheers
DEAN
PS:
Of course A little more detailed description explaining why he thinks that it
is actually a Lunar might be a little helpful to but I wont get into that

[meteorite-list] Classic Ebay Letter

2009-12-03 Thread dean bessey
This dont pertain strictly to meteorites except that ebay has become the worlds
best source of supply but last July ebay suspended me for a week because of
something with my pearl auctions. They wouldent tell me what and a phone
conversation with the worlds rudest person told me that it would be a security
violation to tell me what was wrong with my auctions (Said if they told me what
was wrong I could do things to get around the rules and list again). Usually
they refused to even respond to emails asking what the problem was.
Well, they finally answered one of my emails asking what was wrong with my
auctions. I still have no idea what was wrong with my auctions but at least
they answered my emails.
Now I have to do some guesswork so that I can list pearls again. Not sure what
counterfeit and replica items have to do with my pearl auctions.
Just goes to show. You cant depend on running strictly an ebay business

It is pretty cool looking although in reality a very expensive paperweight.
It was a popular item that sold for around $150 on ebay (At least thats what I

What do you think on get small meteorite fragments and
micromounts embedded on lucite with the respective
information at a side, as a way to preserve and display

value or will suffer any damage on the future?

Re: [meteorite-list] (No More) One-Ad Per Week Rule

2009-10-15 Thread dean bessey
The fact seems to be forgotten that a consensus was taken by Art about
advertising in his forum. Advertising is a privilege, not a right and Art was
considering having no ads at all due to abuse. The consensus, at the time, was
that way too many ads were being posted and that one-ad-per-week should be a
rule. List members input was taken into account so this was not only Art's
wishes but the majority of other members as well. SNIP

This is flat out wrong. There never was any consensus. Art went on record as
saying that he did not mind ads.
What happened was that 4 or 5 people decided that they would hijack Art's list
as if it was their own and decide to prevent people from making to many
(Whatever that means) ads. After months and months of bombarding the list with
anti ad attack postings Art basically tried to shut up the malcontents that
dont appriciate the fact that they have the privelidge being a part of what is
basically the best online meteorite forum and said OK, one a week.
Then, rather than shut up, these 4 or 5 people decide to declare themselves
sherrif and kept going on with this anti ad campaign and even the most minor
offence (Even during big shows like tucson and munich) was enough to make
attack postings. They decided to continue making an ass of themselves and
continue their efforts to hijack arts list as if it was their own.
Then after people started leaving the list because of all these attack postings
they had the gall to claim that They left because of the ads. (The fact that
people werent leaving before their hijacking and attacking efforts is
conveniently ignored).
Nobody leaves this list because of the ads (Well there may have been 2 or 3
people who left because they are to stupid to use the delete button or block
sender button in their email settings and dislaike the fact that people are
allowed to own meteorites like the cultural property people in some governments
but its an insignificant few). People leave because of the bickering. Dont try
and twist it around that its not because of those 4 or 5 people that is
basically ruining things for everybody.
Becides why are you 4 or 5 people constantly harrassing the other 1000 of us
with your diatrabes? An iq of about six would enable you to understand that the
only person who matters is art so why dont you email him rather than the rest
of us who cant do anything even if we did buy the fact that you somehow have
the right to unilaterally declare yourselves sherrif even though you have no
ownership or control of this list?
The answer of course is that Art has the smarts to ignore the whackos.
Nobody is forcing anybody to be a part of this list. You dont even need arts
permission to leave. You can do it yourself.
Stop this assanine BS and let us talk meteorites and have sales. If you have a
problem dont complain to the other 1000 of us.
And the Majority consensus that you refer to is about the same as what the
Majority consensus of an iranian election would be. It is flat out not the
will of the majority of list members or the list owner but the will of 4 or 5
people who wants to run the list as they see fit (Like the aftermat of an
Iranian election).
I suspect that cottingshams lastest excessive postings are designed to
entertain and see how big an ass that certain paople can make of themselves by
complaining about them. Some people has posted 2 anti ad attacks for every one
of cottingshams supposedly excessive ads. The other 1000 of us are surely happy
about that.
Go away. The consensus of the silent majority dont want to listen to your
attacks anymore
Sincerely
DEAN

Re: [meteorite-list] (No More) One-Ad Per Week Rule

2009-10-15 Thread dean bessey
 Dean,
Check the archives. As usual, you are flat out wrong. Art
made the rule, not four or five members.  This is his
forum and his rules. Several members weighed in before the
 decision was made.
 Take Care,
 Adam

Art made the rule after declaring that he dont care (Check the archaives) and 4
or 5 people bombarded the list with hundreds of anti ad postings making the
list unbearable.
But my real question is What are you trying to acompolish by bombarding the
other 1000 of us with multiple postings about the fact that you dont like lots
of ads. We have no say in the matter wither we like it or not. Lets say that
me the the other 1000 list members agree with you 100% and we want cottingham
and big steve kicked off the list? What do you want us to do? Bombard Art with
hundreds of complaints in the same way that these 4 or 5 people are bombarding
the rest of us about the compalints about ads?
You are complaining to the wrong people in your effort to stop all of these ad
postings. The other 1000 of us have no say in the matter.
This has been going on your years and years. We have had to put up with these
hundreds of anti ad postings for years. Dont you think its time to give it a
rest? If Art actually cared he would do something about it. These 4 or 5 people
evidently care more than art does so dont try creating this holier than thou
attitude in the name of art.
Ad's arent the problem. These attack postings are the real problem (5 postings
per as commenting on how bad the ad postings are dont seem like a sensible use
of posting time.
This has gone on for years. Its time to only email art in private if you dont
like how the list is run. The other 1000 of us dont really want to be a part of
this crap.
Sincerely
DEAN

If this stash of gold was found in Italy, Israel, Egypt or Peru, the site would
have been very quickly destroyed behond recognition and reburied (After dark

2009-09-24 Thread dean bessey
Well, I am not that up on british law and maybe there is a british legal clause
that the guys dont own it. That is however different from what the article says
as it clearly says that they will split the proceeds (Not that reporters always
get the details right when it comes to value).
It is also contrary to what my friends who are coin and artifact dealers have
to say about british cultural property laws. Most of them are quite happy with
how the british handle things and you never hear stories about how they got
screwed by the cultural property department (Compare what people have to say
about britain to what they say about canadian cultural property laws for
example).
Maybe though you are right and that these guys will in fact not get a cent. I
am not a lawyer. But I am leaning toward thinking that they will get a fair
shake come payoff time. But if I am wrong and these guys do get their loot
legally stolen from them by the government you can bet that the next gold stash
that is found wont end up being studied and on public display but will
discreetly get sent to switzerland shaped as not so small shiney cubes.
My bet is that the guys running the cultural property system in britian is
smarter than that.

 Hi Greg, Dean, All,

This amazing hoard was found just a short distance away
from me near a place called Brownhills at the side of the
A5. Lots of discussion about its value on the news as usual.
I think that in this case it will be classed as treasure as
it was deliberately hidden ( I think the law is different if
it is classed as lost ) and will not belong to the landowner
or the finder, so will not be sold but go to the museums.
Once valued their will be a reward allocated which in this
case will belong to the finder as he got permission to
search from the landowner. Apparently he has agreed to share
that with the landowner...which only seems fair.

I intend to visit the museum in Birmingham over the weekend
to see this exciting historical find right on my doorstep.

Re: [meteorite-list] The Scoop on Kem Kem

2009-08-15 Thread dean bessey
I just got back from australia and am sorting through thousands and thousands
of emails so my apologies if this has already been answered.
There is no recogonized meteorite term as Kem Kem.
The term Kem Kem dates from the days just before the official creation of the
term NWA roughly 9 or 10 years ago.
Hundreds of kilos of meteorites were being sold at random in Morocco and
everybody (Including the met society) was trying to best figure out how to
catalog and deal with the situation of mixed meteorites from many different
falls thrown in together and sold in bulk (Not that big a deal nowadays but A
novel new thing 10 years ago).
Meteorite dealer Michael casper - now I believe (at least semi) retired, got
his hands on a large quantity (If I remember correctly 300 kilos but my memory
might be a little off after 10 years) and he sold them in bulk using the name
KEM KEM and saying that they were found in the Kem Kem desert. They were very
cheap for meteorites - I believe 30 or 40 cents a gram which was I think the
first time that any meteorite was ever publicly advertised under $1 a gram. At
the time everybody probably believed the Moroccans story that they were found
in the Kem Kem desert but of course nowadays we all take location data with a
grain of salt at best.
I was among Caspers buyers and on seeing them it was obvious that it was a very
mixed group of meteorites and from a very wide variety of falls.
Soon afterwards the name NWA was officially put in place and anything
classified from Caspers Kem Kem hoard (Including NWA001) was given a NWA name.
If you see anything labelled Kem Kem it will almost surely be from caspers one
time 300 Kilo hoard that just pre dated NWA. Nobody else has ever used that
name as the introduction of NWA shortly afterwards cancelled peoples need to
try and make up names to describe their meteorites.
Almost certainly the location data of caspers 300 kilo hoard is just as iffy as
location data that you get nowadays so wither they were actually found in Kem
kem or not is really a moot point as nobody really cares about such details
nowadays. But your Kem Kem stones can be traced to a particular buy from the
early days and has that little extra bit of history to them. They were a
particularly nice group of meteorites also and better than any 300 kilo mixed
hoard that you are likely to find offered in morocco nowadays.
Sincerely
DEAN

[meteorite-list] Astro Mikes meteor streak Photo

2009-07-11 Thread dean bessey

I hate to be a party pooper when everybody is all excited about having a photo
of a meteor fall but astro mikes photo shown on his webpage here:
http://www.mikesastrophotos.com/
Is not exactly all that it is cracked up to be.
Reporters are renouned for not properly checking their info in an effort to get
a scoupe but somebody deserves a raspberry over this one and at least somebody
should have seen this photo for what it is before newspapers started printing
it.
The greenish streak is a starboard (right) wingtip nav light, the centre red is
the rotating anti-collision beacon, and the red streak is the port (left)
wingtip nav light. The two brighter white centre lights are the landing lights
or maybe white tracking lights depending on what type of aircraft it is. It
would have been flying up the photo to the left of the observer. There was a
slight wind making the pilot crab into the wind which explains the non perfect
parellel lines.
The photo has quite a bit of dust and mike needs his CCD chip cleaned.
Basically, While he was inside waiting the the long exposure photo to finish an
aircraft flew through his image.
Cheers

Hi Dean and sorry to see you go
through this sad case of communication malfunction and lack
of professional  etiquette of EBay. Your right you
should of been contacted first or at the least as you said
to just them removing only the pearl auctions. Let me ask
you a questiondid you hold EBay to paying all your
listing fees or have them allow you to list for free now
 that you have their explanation?
 Thank you.

Many thanks Carl for the poswerseller phone number. This
has caused me $100 in phone bills today but at least the
powerseller people reinstated my ebay account. The downside
is that I now have no auctions at all listed and because
ebay ended everything I have all the details lost so have to
manually list everything again - 1700 auctions.
Likely most wont get relisted as I plan to put more stuff
on websites and diversify from ebay.
I also found out why they suspended my account. Apparantly
ebay has started a new rule where tahiti pearls are no
longer permitted to be listed on ebay.
So, rather than just end the pearl auctions (Or better yet
 - inform me of the new rule) they just said that I violated
their rules to often (I assume more than 4 times since I had
300 tahiti pearl auctions so I violated their listing rules
300 times) and suspended my account.
So anyway, thats why I was suspended and ebay has now
kissed and made up so I can list everything except pearls
 again now.

I have had 5 people email me privately with a message saying something to the
effect of Whats up with pearls - and could meteorites be next, so I will
email the group rather than individually?
Answer is be afraid - be very afriad.
Apparantly the laws concerning the export and import of pearls are
complicated so ebay has decided to no longer allow them (But there are still
some listed on ebay and the Trust and saftety department told me it would be
a security violation to give me this information - because people might use the
info to circumvent those rules) so who the hell knows what ebay is up to. Even
their own employees are kept in the dark (Presumably for security reasons)
I was told that it is illegal to export pearls from French Polynesia directlty
into the USA (Whats up, has obama got a new dislike for the french? - if I
promise to never ever again use the term French Fry can I then list tahiti
pearls again?) and that I should look into the laws regarding pearls in my own
country before I sell anymore.
So, I am told that conflicting and complicated laws are responsible for pearls
getting prohibited from ebay.
Hm. Complicacated and conflicting laws? That wouldent also apply to
Meteorites, artifacts, coins, collectibles - not to mention leather pants
(Countries where cows are sacred) or a free press in general in some countries
would it.
Ebay was started to sell laser pointers if I remember correctly. Maybe
eventually thats all that will be allowed again.
Me thinks that people should start diversifying from ebay as quickly and as
much as possible. Paypal to (Nobody has ever had problems with paypal of
course).
I now have 1700 auctions that disapeared and ebay tells me sorry, shit happens,
now just be a good little boy and relist them all again so we can collect more
ebay fees - and if we decide to end them all without telling you why and
keeping all those fees again, well, shit happens.

Reasoning is getting harder. OK, for my information. in seven days time when I
get back on ebay again can you tell me what about my auctions was
misrepresented so that I can fix them and not violate your policy in the future
so I dont get kicked off again?.
Sorry, telling you what the problem is would be a security violation and if
people who what they looked for would do things to circumvent their rules in
the future.
This is going nowhere. I wish that I had a copy of that phone conversation. It
would have looked good on youtube.
In addition, the emails that ended the auctions said this:

eBay has restricted your ability to list new items as a result of a policy
violation. We'd be happy to lift this restriction once you've completed a brief
tutorial about this policy. The next time you sign in to your eBay account,
click on ?Sell? and ?Sell Your Item.? You?ll then be asked to take the
tutorial. Once you've completed it, you can begin selling again immediately.
__
Unfortunately, doing so is not possible so I cant even sign on. Even their
emails dont make sense.
So with a bit of luck, sometime in the next 7 days they will tell me what was
wrong with my auctions so that I can fix it and not violate their policy -
although maybe they will not because doing so might enable me to fix the
problem out and circumvent their rules in the future.
I plan to spend the next 7 days getting some shopping cart websites built and
trying out other sites to sell stuff. Anybody got any ideas where else to list
stuff? Anybody know somebody with ebay who will talk to me?
Apparantly it was my pearl auctions that was somehow misrepresented but its not
possible to find out why. It sgoing to be a pain relisting 1700 auctions. It
probably wont get done - especially if I can figure out how to build a nice
shopping cart website

I have found a nice way to beat the system when it
comes to getting money with paypal.
Instead of sending money with the purchase tab, use
the personal tab and you will not have to pay the paypal
fees when you recieve the money.
This can add up to substantial savings over time.

Dealers, all you need to do is ask the person buying
from you is for them to instead of clicking the purchase
tab, click the personal tab on the paypal send money page.
You will pay NO FEES on the money you recieve!
Again, this will add up to nice savings over time.

Hope this will help some of you out there, in tough
times (and good ones) every little bit helps.

 Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a small endpiece of what I assumed was
 probably a
 pairing to NWA 5546.

After cleaning it up a bit, I noticed an overall elongation
 and
orientation of the chondrules. I was wondering if anyone
 else would
agree from the picture at the link below.
 http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c57/pkmorgan/share/cv3b.jpg

I've always been fascinated by Leoville and while this may
 not be as
extreme, I thought I'd go out on a limb and see if anyone
 else saw it.

For those of you who have some, does this look like NWA
 5546? Is
there any reason to believe this might not even be a CV3?

Also, I tend to collect smaller pieces to match my budget
 and was
surprised at how hard this pulled to a magnet. More like
 an H
chondrite. How do the different carbonaceous classes
 typically
respond to a magnet? In Ruben's recent CK recovery video
 I recall
that those responsed fairly strongly as well.

 Thanks,
 Phil
