Re: [meteorite-list] Katol India meteorite - Forbidden Fruit

2012-07-15 Thread Greg Catterton

thats the whole reason I spoke up on this issue. There are IMCA board members
feeding Jason utas information to create his IMCA blacklist website, yet he is
breaking the IMCA code of ethics and also international laws. The IMCA will do
nothing about it as Jason id protected by the IMCA board. Its a sad situation
indeed. When its a part of the clique they look the other way. I was good
enough to run for the board and yet two months later was no longer an IMCA
member because I rocked the boat. I am sorry, I WILL NOT keep quiet when I see
issues. How about the fact Adam Hupe OWNS the IMCA now? Where is that public
info unless you do extensive research and pay the money to get records? How
about how the IMCA was NOT non profit for several years? yet certain members
what to team up and build a blacklist website and then sell illegally exported
meteorites?
The IMCA is complete BS and so futile at this point it is not much more then a
marketing gimmick. I will speak out on this because I am not afraid of them or
what they will try to do to my business. they already have done what they can
to make me look bad, so I am returning the favor. THE IMCA IS A WASTE OF A
GREAT IDEA. It is a group with good intentions, but run by many that have no
other interest then money and no love for meteorites. Anne Black does not care
about meteorites. She is all about the money she can  make off them. So are
several others in charge of the group. Its not the IMCA, its the IMDA (D for
dealers) at this point. Owned and controlled by dealers who do not collect and
dont have the passion a collector does. Let the crickets chirp as they keep
quiet and try to hide this. I beg the board, challenge what I am saying, please
do... I will prove you wrong at every turn. I made mistakes in trusting people,
but made it right and that led
to a lot of personal issues in my life. My wanting to share meteorites with
others. I had dreams that were not able to be made reality. I admit that, but
it was only my passion for these space rocks that did it. Not some scheme or
scam. Just dreams.
Jason cant say that, Anne cant say that. most the IMCA board who remains quiet
cant say that. I dare them to speak up... they wont because it will affect the
money they make and the fancy cars they drive. I have nothing to lose, so I
speak my mind.
So be it...

Sorry Richard but this an endemic issue that will always be viewed with a
turned head. What bothers me the most is the fact that it get's ignored in
relation to who is involved. I don't really care who sells an illegal rock
unless it's an imca member who is sworn to the uphold the truth.. like anyone
really cares about the imca. The perpetrator rolls the dice. I do get disgusted
when the people who preach about it all backslide into their own bs. Many have

Time for me to excuse myself from any further comments on this thread, the
neophyte that I am, with this last one on this topic: when I mentioned I
echoed Mike's comments, I see it all from afar as a non-IMCA member, and
have held onto my perspective that the meteorite world is as pristine as the
falls and finds we enjoy. Sad to see the drama.

Dear Shawn
You are absolutely correct. It is illegal to collect meteorites in India. And
meteorites are government property. The authority for this is the Geological
Survey of India. And as far as I know, they never trade or deal with any
individuals or private institutions. There cannot be any export papers as
export is banned.

Although I wonder how having a export paper or certificate helps ?

If a specimen is up for sale, it is definitely out of the country and has been
exported.

By the way does anyone have a analysis report on this new find ?

 Dear Shawn
You are absolutely correct. It is illegal to collect meteorites in
India. And meteorites are government property. The authority for this is
the Geological Survey of India. And as far as I know, they never trade
or deal with any individuals or private institutions. There cannot be
any export papers as export is banned.

Although I wonder how having a export paper or certificate helps ?

If a specimen is up for sale, it is definitely out of the country and
 has been exported.

By the way does anyone have a analysis report on this new find ?

You are absolutely correct. It is illegal to collect meteorites in
India. And meteorites are government property. The authority for this is
the Geological Survey of India. And as far as I know, they never trade

any export papers as export is banned.

As not an IMCA member, I watch this discussion with a focused ear. Optimism
for any outcome is a good direction to aim.

Relatively new to this forum (just a few years on the List...although maybe
it's way more, I'm aging) I find it both interesting, sometimes painful and
sometimes comical to watch the drama. Normally I delete-delete-delete the
banter, unless it is a discussion that warrants merrit. I never delete the
science

This one ranks along the painful lines, because it seems to me that
disputes of legit authenticity, pedigree authenticity questions, legality of
import, etc on-and-on can be best resolved privately until and unless there
is a threat to all of us.

Of course, the last caviat may be important, but lets hope not.

Hello Jason, Greg, and all,

2 very important facts to remember at all times:

- IMCA Board Members are not required to sit in front of their computers
24/7, just in case someone has a question or a problem. We are allowed to
have a life.

- Anything the IMCA Board decides to say or do will be said or done in
PRIVATE. And only in Private.

Ditto Michael. Your personal beef with me and the IMCA for booting
you is sad, but you screwed up in a large way, multiple times. Way to
brush off the topic of unreturned museum donations yet again.

Almahata Sitta was issued an export permit by the University of
Khartoum. Whether that is legal in the eyes of the government there
is open to debate. Either way, the pot's calling the kettle black.

These meteorites were not stolen. As you say, case closed.

2012-07-14 Thread bill kies

Sorry Richard but this an endemic issue that will always be viewed with a
turned head. What bothers me the most is the fact that it get's ignored in
relation to who is involved. I don't really care who sells an illegal rock
unless it's an imca member who is sworn to the uphold the truth.. like anyone
really cares about the imca. The perpetrator rolls the dice. I do get disgusted
when the people who preach about it all backslide into their own bs. Many have
preached and done the contrary. Check the archives.

I can accept opportunists and leaches as long as they're up front about it, as
long as they don't get in my way
