[MMouse]:
That has to be one of the most impossible questions of the past 1000 years. The oldies radio station here in Cleveland has the top 500 songs or something like that, as voted by people. For the past few years... that one some from the movie Ghost has been number one by the Everly Brothers, so maybe that's one. Or maybe the people down under are considering decent music only. Gaslight records in melbourne is running a competition and the prize is 3 cd's from their top 20 (which would be pretty good). THe aim. To guess as close to how the staff responded on the following question: What are the best 5 songs of the last 1000 years? Well, someone at my house against all better judgement sugested that maybe 'Happy Birthday to you' was one of them. I argued with the culprit fruitessly. L. Plagarism is necessary. Re: [MMouse]: Re: sex
I just picked up elf::gulf bore waltz by the band home. I am liking thus far, and would definitely recommend to fans of built to spill's PFNO. Does anyone know anything else about this band? The only reason I ordered the cd (from JETSET) was because it was described as "built to spill playing dark side of the moon on the millenial new years eve" and I was trying to find a bridge between me and my flatmate who is a prog rock fanatic. I got him listening to whenever you see fit, but he didn't really like long drive. That's all he would listen to. but he's slowly coming around - we do a radio show punk vs prog in melbourne. anyway - home what do you know? L. Plagarism is necessary. Re: [MMouse]: Early results
I smoke/drink and smoke pot as well. And the strange thing is I like a long drive as a smoking pot album as well, although I prefer whenever you see fit. nmh's aeroplane/sea is also kinda cool, but a bit depressing. L. I smoke cigarettes. I drink. I used to smoke down a lot in high school and occasionally drop acid. After my first year of college I pretty much quit that shit. Pot started to make me paranoid. As for sports, I pretty much hate them all. Minus tennis. Here's my 2 or so cents: Never took a hit, sniff, inject whatever. I smoked for 10 days about 7 or so years ago, (in the seventh grade). I drink at weddings mostly and have never gotten to experience the sheer pleasure of a self-induced hangover, (or any hangover for that matter). (Sportswise, skiing and tennis [spectator and participator]. None of the 'jock sports' except for the occassional Indians game). So far from this list we have 6 people who do use, 3 who don't and 1 who did but doesn't anymore. I'm still getting outside information and shall post the full results later Matt B Plagarism is necessary. Progress implies it. - Guy Debord, plagarising Issadore DuCasse.
Re: [MMouse]: *tape*
okay, this might seem like a completely stupid/pointless idea to some of you...but i was wondering if anyone would be interested in putting together a modest mouse "tribute" tape of sorts...i know there are a lotta musicians on this list, so i was thinking that people could record themselves doing mm songs, and then send them to me to mix onto a tape. then i could copy and send the tapes to anybody who wants one...i think it would be purty interestin if enough people wanna make the effort... It has worked quite well on the pavement list - they are up to their third tape. I only got the first one, but it was pretty good. It's more of a laugh than anything, but sometimes you may just get a gem. (80's hair metal version of 'cut yr hair') L. Plagarism is necessary. Re: [MMouse]: las drogas
I just realised that this list is finally going through its drug discussion phase. The verve list I was on went through it about 3.5 years ago and it ended in major purging and arguments and that kind of crap. Please let's keep it civilised, we're all friends here. ps for the record: as good as bts perfect from now on is on pot, nothing beats listening to it on mushrooms - for the ultimate psychadelic mind fuck. L. i guess life itself is enough for me. never smoked, don't drink and never been drunk. have no desire to do either, never have. according to some people, that makes me boring or a "goody two shoes". not really, but it does seem to make me rare... natalie But never met this Fellow Attended, or alone Without a tighter breathing And Zero at the Bone- -Emily Dickinson Plagarism is necessary. Re: [MMouse]: limits/deadline/help!
alright...ive gotten more than twenty emails from kids saying they wanna contribute to the tape. i think that we need to make a cut-off point...otherwise theres not gonna be enough room on the tapes. and are we setting a deadline for when all of the tapes need to be sent? i also think that there should be a few more people dubbing and sending the tapes...cos, being a full time college student, i dont have the time to record and send fifty+ tapes. any volunteers? Don't stop people from sending tapes. Don't discourage creativity. Just say "the first tape will only have the first 90 minutes of music that I get, on it" and maybe you'll get enough to make you consider doing another... L. Plagarism is necessary. Re: [MMouse]: Re: Digest modestmouse.v001.n299
does anyone else think that it's kind of cheap for the mouse to play a slight variation of the same setlist every god damned night? correct me if i'm wrong, but every setlist i see consists of "cowboy dan," "tailer trash," "doin' the cockroach," "tundra desert," "dramamine" and then a few interchangable numbers. you would think a band with such a girth of material would vary their live show a bit. y'know? Quit yr whinging. At least you get to see them play live. Some of us are stuck with the same versions of those songs EVERYDAY. Try not to be so blind. L. Plagarism is necessary. Re: [MMouse]: Yoyo A Go Go or Bust!!!
Um, yeah - we only get the bands come to Australia when there's enough to fill a stadium, or on some huge loolapalooza-esque tour type thing where you will always find Marilyn Manson or some other cock rock crap headliners and if yr lucky maybe sonic youth'll play. I don't even really like SY, but thats as good as we get. Quit yr moaning! DIY. L. ok. i don't live in the west and i can't help you about yr trip, but i just wanted to say that i'd kill to be you. also, yr message kind of despresses me. i'll explain: i am, as well, a 17 year old girl, but i'm stuck in KENTUCKY. yeah. ok. modest mouse was here about 2 years ago, but i didn't see them cuz i couldn't get to louisville. the only "indie" type shows i've been to were in athens, georgia, and cincinnati (pavement and sonic youth respectively) so i have to Really Travel to see the indie rock. and yes, the crowds at both of those shows were actually pretty sucky. sometimes i'd kill to have some pretentious 20something indie people around, because there is One other person in this town who is into the music i am. i'm not trying to undermine you, cuz i can see that it's annoying to be around those pretentious indiefans all the time, but please, remember you have the music at least, and appreciate it. anyway. i've often thought the west would be a good place to go and see all the good bands and all...but check out tour dates, and see how many good bands entirely skip the west in favor of the east (they skip the south too). so. sorry if i've offended you or anything. i just wanted to say that. kat evol "http://members.tripod.com/terrarium" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: OK. Here's the thing. I'm a 17 year old girl stuck on the uptight east coast. I hardly get to experience fun shows over here. Don't get me wrong we get our share of good shows, Modest Mouse, Chisel, the Make Up, Bratmobile, Yo La Tengo, and I even saw Braid last night. I mean Im sure it could be worse. The thing that bothers me though is that everyone here (New Haven, CT) is so pretentious about music it makes me want to puke. People go to shows just to be seen at them it seems. It's almost strict in a way and I try not to pay attention to it but it still ruins shows because they just aren't as fun. It's just a bunch of jaded 20-something year-olds grumbling about what bands they saw and who they hung out with; and the ones who are younger just slump and sway to the music and wear glasses because being a nerd is cool these days. For as long as I've been diggin' the whole indie rock scene I've just wanted to go hang out with all the happy show-goers oout west. Maybe Im wrong maybe you all hate each other, thats just how it seems to me. Plagarism is necessary. Progress implies it. - Guy Debord, plagarising Issadore DuCasse.
Re: [MMouse]: all you need
I don't want to be a downer, but you have the money to buy the cds, you have the money and privledge to enjoy yr tastes in style, and you can still experience yr alienation second hand through the music you purchase. Of course yr lucky. You should be me, I'm even luckier - pretty girlfriend, government subsidy to study, upper- middle class background, white, male, Australian, literate, computer savvy, and great taste in music. What more could you want? Let's try for: world peace, the end of hunger and want, free education for all, freedom from armed threat from anyone and anyplace, liberation. of course yr lucky, be thankful yr not cynical too. L. where the music is coming from, everything is hidden. So, anyway, we're all just standing around having a few drinks, a few tokes from the dolphin bong, "Edit the sad parts" came on, and me and this other girl are dancing together, everyone's having a blast. I tell you, that right there just made me realize how lucky we are to know such great music, and how we just seem to have this knowledge of something that so many people don't have. It used to be frustrating when I would talk about bands, and no one would know what I'm talking about, but now I'm glad. Re: [MMouse]: show me the perfect free market, and I'll sho
So, I'm uneducated, eh? We'll come to that later. The libertarian party is so named because it is the only party which recognizes the sovereignty of the individual, in other words, liberty. Ok, mr educated. explain how the sovereignty of the individual benefits a 3 week old child. Don't get me wrong, I am an anarchist that believes in self determination - but you have to take into account that we are communal in some aspects. I am not advocating some kind of communism, just recognition of the facts: like that it is easy for men to be libertarian, but women have more of an ethic of care regards themselves, their offspring, and the community. Libertarianism cannot and does not address these issues at all. L. Plagarism is necessary. Progress implies it. - Guy Debord, plagarising Issadore DuCasse.
