[MP3 ENCODER] New Decoder For Winamp

2000-09-05 Thread E. Zann

Hi folks,

Have you already seen this from Justin of Nullsoft ???

http://landoleet.org/~deadbeef/in_mp3_260_alpha7.zip

It is linked from http://www.fileclicks.com front
page, just scroll down until Today's Top News
Clicks section. Here what is says:

"New Decoder Plug-in For Winamp:

The new decoder plug-in for Winamp is coming along
good, download the alpha version 7 above. It's not
quite as fast as Nitrane, but is completely ISO
compliant. Justin says "there's plenty of room for
improvement". A few changes : bugfix: vbr headers
read when id3v2 tag is present now, downsampling
modes have better vis support, id3v2 writing
support, stream info box and more."

Greetings,
-E.

Hi folks,

Just found this link to Mayah EditPro:
http://cooler.irk.ru/sound/software/editors/edpro22.zip

This version is fixed by Radium, here is what they
say about it: "Mayah EditPro is an MP3 file editor.

there is no lengthy 're-encoding' or accumulated
quality loss when saving a file. Features : Cut,
copy and paste of mp3 frames, auto fades, volume
editing, markers and more. (Retail $500) More info
at http://www.mayah.com/english/editpro.html"

Hope this was not too much off-topic, though :)

[MP3 ENCODER] Encoders genealogy

2000-06-20 Thread E. Zann

Hi folks,

How many original, or "basic", so to say, mp3
encoders are out there ??? I can think only of
ISO, Fhg, and Xing ...

And what is genealogy of mp3 codecs, anyway ???
Which one was the first, what is derived from
what, etc. ???

If you find it interesting, but too much off topic
for the list, please, do not hesitate to reply me
directly :)

[MP3 ENCODER] Real Edit

2000-06-07 Thread E. Zann

Hi folks,

Some time ago (March 10-15) there was a thread
here on MP3 Frame-level editors and for Windows
users Mathew Hendry suggested Mayah Edit Pro from
http://www.mayah.com with a remark on its high
price, though.

While looking for how to work around the price
problem I found out that there was a predecessor
of Edit Pro by the same company called Real Edit,
which evolved up to version 3.0 (AFAIK, this was
the latest release in June 1999).

Real Edit has less capabilities then Edit Pro
(from the first look, no fade-in fade-out features
at least) but still might be interesting for many.
It is not free too, but there is a solution out
there.

Here is some info and a screenshot:
http://www.sonicspot.com/mayahrealedit/mayahrealedit.html

Here is the direct link for downloading (274K):
http://www.sonicspot.com/mayahrealedit/realedit.exe

Feel free to email me directly for any details.
And sorry if it was too much offtopic ...

Greetings,
-E.

Re: [MP3 ENCODER] Lagrange interpolation

2000-06-05 Thread E. Zann

Hi Dmitry,

DB Hi, anyone here heard of lagrange
DB interpolation?

Definition:
http://forum.swarthmore.edu/dr.math/problems/wang8.8.97.html

Some code (???):
http://www.netlib.org/c++/linalg.tgz

Java applet (did NOT work on my IE 5.01):
http://www.students.cs.ruu.nl/~jcgronde/java/LA.html

Lots of info (including frequency response etc.):
http://www-ccrma.stanford.edu/~jos/Interpolation/Lagrange_Interpolation_Coef.html

DB It is supposed to be really good method for
DB interpolation. Better than cubic/quadratic
DB (for down/up sampling)

I've no idea ... will look further ...

[MP3 ENCODER] SCMPX

2000-05-15 Thread E. Zann

Hi guys,

What is your opinion on SCMPX player/encoder by
Shinji Chiba ??? It is available for almost a year
already and I heard nothing else but rumors about
how great/bad it is so far.

SCMPX home page: http://www.70.nu/ch3/index_e.html
Download: http://www.70.nu/ch3/smxwin151e.zip

MAZ Sound Tools web-zine gave to SCMPX and Lame
the highest grades, some sites quote MAZ saying
"SCMPX is the best encoder of year 2000", although,
I did not find anything like that myself on MAZ's
web-page. They did some analysis on it too:
http://www.maz-sound.com/scmpx.html

Personally I tried SCMPX as a player half a year
ago and did not notice anything outstanding: it
wasn't bad at all, but still worse then NAD :))

Remark for Linux users - SCMPX is a win32 app :(

Re[2]: [MP3 ENCODER] new in_mpg123

2000-05-02 Thread E. Zann

Hi guys,

K I can't tell what the problem is because it
K happens only on certain songs

JB I've played quite a few mp3s and it refused to
JB play one mp3.

Maybe you know about this little utility already,
but anyways ... It was announced on one of general
mp3 message boards about four months ago. Download
link is on http://www.geocities.com/mp3utility/

In a word, it is a Win32 piece of software which
provides one with some information on an mp3 file
and has an ability to check it for consistency and
such errors as missing frames etc.

I always use this utility (and find it pretty
helpful, actually) when I hear something strange
on some particular file to see what is wrong.

Hope this helps :)

Re: [MP3 ENCODER] winamp quality

2000-04-28 Thread E. Zann

Hi, Pierre:

PH I use WinAmp (2.62) to play my mp3 files
PH encoded by lame (3.70), and I find it rather
PH bad ... are there some particular settings
PH that could improve the decoding ?

The easiest and fastest thing to try, IMHO, is to
use in_mp3.dll from 2.22 version of WinAMP, which
is based on Fraunhofer's decoding engine. One can
download it from Dmitry Kutsanov's site:
http://www.chat.ru/~dkutsanov/in_mp3.zip

Personally, I like it better then original Nitrane
decoder.

[MP3 ENCODER] Lame - MusicMatch

2000-04-27 Thread E. Zann

Hi everybody,

The following was just posted to the EAC's mailing
list:

 I must also notice a strange thing : the mp3's I
make with EAC pb4 Lame 3.70 play perfectly
with Windows Mediaplayer, Xing Mp3 player
Winamp, but give a strange noise at the very
beginning of each track when played with
Musicmatch Jukebox. I think it comes from Lame,
I converted the same tracks with Xing x3enc and
Audioactive producer and they play normally.

Just thought it might be kinda interesting ... any
comments ???

-E.
