[NTG-context] footnotes
At the end of the text (or chapter) the last batch of footnotes is not always placed, not even when an index follows. They must be forced with \placefootnotes. It happened both with footnotes bytext and bychapter. Is this the normal behaviour? Must I end (for footnotes bychapter) each chapter with \placefootnotes? yours sincerely, dr. Adrian Drury wrote: Is there a way to calculate the width of some number of characters (or a string of characters) to use as a dimension parameter? For example, a macro that returns the width in points of 5 space characters in the current font? I figured hardcoding the width of a space as a percentage of an em might work, but would probably not be consistent across fonts. Is that true, or is it really that simple? That would break now and then. Here is how you get the natural size of a space: \setbox0=\hbox{ } now \wd0 (the WiDth of box 0) is the 'natural' width of a space. But note that this is not 100% accurate in normal typesetting, because TeX adjusts spaces when needed for justification. Anyway, after this \setbox command, 5\wd0 is the width of five spaces, etc. Chees, taco ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

Matthias— I would recommend using Thomas Schmitz’ Greek module (http:// modules.contextgarden.net/t-greek). It works very well for me. Re: [NTG-context] hyphenation exceptions
Peter Münster wrote: Hello, I don't want to tell TeX about hyphenation exceptions in the text, only once for all in an environment file. How can I do this with words like DNA-Fragmente or $\beta$-Verknüpfung ? Write: $\beta$||Verknüpfung instead. The two bars break the single word in two seperate ones, and both are hyphenated normally ($\beta$ will not hyphenate of course, but you get the idea, I hope). A few things can be inbetween the ||'s, for words like |(|multi|)|valued but normally you use just ||. This even makes sure that the compound hyphen is slightly longer then the auto-inserted one, so that it is still possible to distinguish that it is a compound word if hyphenation happens right at the ||. [NTG-context] \showbodyfont
Hi to all, I started taking a look to fonts. Actually installation is out of my possibilities but I won't give up so easily... Re: [NTG-context] Short greek quote in otherwise english text
Thanks, Alan, this package looks nice, but I can't figure out where to put things, despite instructions... I unzip texms.zip and get two directories, which I am supposed to put into the texmf tree. I tried it with the directory (on my Mac) /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf/ and put all files form the downloaded texmf.zip into the corresponding subdirectories (is there an easy way -- on a Mac, I had to authenticate each copy). Then I ran sudo texhash and sudo updmap --enable Map tasgreek.map. The first time I got !!! ERROR! The map file `tasgreek.map' has not been found at all. and subsequent times Map files not recreated., which sounds suspicious. Then, running a simple test file shows that the greek module is being loaded, I get n error message, but also no greek text in the output :( Any hints? I probably have messed up my texmf tree now... Re: [NTG-context] Short greek quote in otherwise english text
That's due to a change in the TeX Directory Structure. Try running sudo updmap-sys --enable Map tasgreek.map and see if that solves your problem.
