 Idris,

I sympathize, but I think you're a bit unfair here. If I understand
Hans's mail right, he was not installing from the image, but rsyncing
his trees with TeXLive, and that's where the error was. I've been
running the development version for at least three months now (even
when it still was called 2006...) and haven't had any troubles,
especially wrt to fonts and packages. On a linux or OS X box, I would
even recommend installing it alongside the minimal and switch between
them to test things, but I have no idea if/how this is possible on
 winblows.

here i use the tex live tree (actually a merge of all tex live texmf trees, and
depending on what version i also merge in free but not free enough for tex
live)

from that i draw the minimals

i use minimals for projects because they run faster (smaller trees) and because
i then can add fonts without interference as well as use a frozen version of
context

problems with tex live can be in

- fonts
- patterns
- generic files

not being there, or being changed without notice, or being non generic any
longer ... i still have to test the upcoming version but the last couple of
years there was always one problem (maybe this years problem is the marvisym
thing);

for this reason, context no longer uses generic code, ships with its own patern
files, and when needed uses its own map files etc. As soon as we move to
luatex, we no longer need tfm etc and yet another dependency is gone

of course one should always be careful when combining a tex live with a context
update (for instance, context will move to tex-gyre fonts as soon as possible
so best keep that up to date as well)

 Dear ConTeXter,

I'm having some troubles in compiling a document.

I'm writing a short book (a tutorial). I writing each chapter on a
separate file, then I have a main file using this kind of structure

 \input stile
 ...
 \input 00.introduzione
 \page
 \input 01.scGrado0
 \page
 \input 02.architettura
 ...

Where \input is used to insert each chapter.

Also, I'm using a sort of style file defining the setups, and I'm
inputting it as the first line of my main.tex file.

Some chapters contain long framed \type parts (it's a book on a
programming language), filling an entire page. When I compile each
chapter file, I have no problem.
But I can't compile the main file. ConTeXt keeps on adding blank
 pages
on blank pages (total is approx. 100 pages, I stopped ConTeXt at
 635).
I guess it could depend on framed \type but can't understand how to
 solve it.
Here one of the most difficult files. By itself it compiles
 properly
 (perfectly...I like it).

 http://www.semiotiche.it/andrea/membrana/03.oggetti.tex

Here the compiled file (it uses a lot of images and other stuff so
 you
 can't compile it):

 http://www.semiotiche.it/andrea/membrana/03.oggetti.pdf

 Here the style file:

 http://www.semiotiche.it/andrea/membrana/stile.tex

 Here the main file:

 Many thanks as usual

 Hi Andrea,

TeX has problems to find your documents, this is no problem when you
compile them alone, but TeX means after the \input command you have a
file with the name 00.introduzione with 00 as filename and
introduzione as file type. You should try to use something else as
seperator between the number and the text in your filenames like -.

You should also try to use ConTeXts own commands for documents
structures as Aditya told you in the other post.

You need to install the tikz module. Download tikz from the
sourceforge website or CTAN, and unzip it in a temporary directory.
Then you need to correct the directory structure to conform to TDS.
There are some instructions in the tikz manual.

You will also need to install xkeyval, in case your installation does
not have it.

error, texexec stopping with undefined \tikzstyle.

Since tikz module is not found, these will be missing.

On a fresh debian installation, that is.

ConTeXt compatibility was added recently (4-5 months ago). I do not
know whether debian stable has it or not. Maybe first you should try
to update the tex installation using debian methods (I do not know
those).

Re: [NTG-context] debian tikz module

2007-02-23 Thread plink
Thanks Aditya, I noticed just after sending my post that I had removed
the debian pgf package before, because it didn't work with ConTeXt.

After reinstalling it I noticed however, that nothing had changed
recently. It still works with LaTeX but the ConTeXt support realized in
the current pgf-version (for unstable debian) is still not working,
which - given that it is still based on 1.09 upstream pgf/tikz - may
seem as no suprise.

A quick and *very dirty* installation of 1.10 worked fine with ConTeXt,
so hopefully the next pgf-debian release has that ConTeXt support built in.

This is rather straightforward, really. Pdftex 1.40 expects opentype

Re: [NTG-context] OpenType font problem

2007-02-23 Thread Alan Bowen
Taco, Idris—

I moved the .otf files to ~/Library/texmf/fonts/opentype and the file
now compiles properly.
Many thanks!

Just a possibility: A recent pdftex may be to blame. I am still
 using a
ConTeXt from December because of a similar problem with open type
 fonts.

This is rather straightforward, really. Pdftex 1.40 expects opentype
fonts in fonts/opentype instead of fonts/type1.

I am having a problem on mswincontext since this the update 2007.02.20. Even
 hello world will not compile.

I am assuming the problem is the 7pt font.

What do I need to do to correct the problem?

I have not tested the whole mswincontext (I just updated the texmf
tree), but the error looks like missing tmf files.

Try downloading the latest lm fonts lm1.010bas.zip, lm1.010mt1.zip,
lm1.010otf.zip,lm101hh.zip from
www.gust.org.pl/projects/e-foundry/latin-modern/ and unzip them inside
texmf-local, mktexlsr and retry.

Re: [NTG-context] breaking framed text across pages

2007-02-23 Thread Mojca Miklavec
On 2/21/07, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky wrote:

 Hi,

I'm struggling against framed text and is beaten again.

If the text below doesn't fit the page, it goes below footer and stops pdf
file without explanations. After many experiments I should note that frame
text is not user-tolerant construction at all, unlike the whole Context is.
 :(

Hans should probably answer the framed-tet related question. I was
also a bit disappointed last time when I figured out that framedtext
doesn't support breaking along pages. But then I discovered an
alternative:

\setupbackground[frame=on,rulethickness=0.7pt,corner=round,bodyfont=11pt,width=\textwidth]

\startbackground
...
\stopbackground

The only little problem is that background doesn't support
\definebackground yet, so you should either help yourself with
something similar to what I did:

\def\starthomework{\dosingleempty\dostarthomework}
\long\def\dostarthomework[#1]#2\stophomework
  {\bgroup
   \setupbackground[frame=on,rulethickness=0.7pt,
  corner=round,width=\textwidth]
   \startbackground
   {\bf Homework\doifsomething{#1}{: #1}}\switchtobodyfont[10pt]\crlf
 #2
   \stopbackground
   \egroup}

or ask someone here to extend the functionality (if you need that).
(I experinced some problems: a bit weird spacing around backgrounds
and buggy end of pages - but I didn't yet manage to post a bug
report.)

It would be nice if backgrounds would gain some functionality and if
they would be more consistent with framedtexts, but I didn't yet take
time to create a more extensive comparison (long
bug-report/feature-request list for Hans, or even Aditya, who likes
such challenges as well).

 \defineframedtext[assignment][rulethickness=0.7pt,
 corner=round, bodyfont=11pt, width=\textwidth]

 \startassignment

Write an M-file which inputs matrixes $A$, $B$, initial $N$ and number of
iterations, and which plots 3D bars.

 \startcolumns[n=3]

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule

Why not simply \dorecurse{10}{\par\thinrule}?

 \stopcolumns

Find relative distribution (in percents) of population within age classes
and store the result into new matrix $P$. Plot it too.

 \startcolumns[n=3]

 \par\thinrule

 \par\thinrule
