[NTG-context] Opposite Blocks or Spread Based Layouts
Hi ConTeXt ComRaDes, Trying to design a travelogue book with photos on the left page, and text on the right. Tried \startopposite to get an opposite block, and turned it on with \setupoppositeplacing[state=start], to no discernable effect. Am I doing something wrong, or is there another way to do this? fairly recently as in, say, 2 months ago, i could typeset that file without changing anything, that is, it worked with luatex and pdftex from the minimals and pdtex from texlive 2008. is this because of the recent addition of the math stuff? [NTG-context] Problem of transfering bib to bbl in Chinese.
Hi everyone,
I asked the question days ago. I find something new, so I submit it here and
hope
it can provide some useful information and, hopefully, can solve the problem.
t-bib can transfer the following bib entry correct.

but the following bib entry will be rubbish.

The difference is that there are multiple authors separated by 'and' in the
second
bib entry. Is it solvable?

It doesn't work. I checked the .bbl file generated by LaTeX from the
same .bib file. There is no rubbish. Why can LaTeX do the thing right
with the same bibtex? (I use TeXLive 2008 companying with rsynced
ConTeXt of current branch, in which the t-bib is replaced by the
newest version.)

I guess you are using a latex bibtex style that doesn't support 'short' keys. The t-bib module does, and, what is the problem: Because bibtex doesn't understand utf-8, it will happily split in the middle of a sequence, causing an invalid utf-8 string to be the argument of the the 's' key in the generated bbl. You can't turn the bib module's 's' handling off in a nice way, sorry. You have to either hack the cont-XX.bst files by deleting the line that says clabel write$ or you have to manually edit the generated bbl file. [NTG-context] Logos of Context (context-free-design github repo)
Hi all of you, After aproving of Taco and Mojca, I announce that I start a repository of ConTeXt logos: http://github.com/somenxavi/context-free-designs/ Now it has only the Taco logo that reproduce the contextgarden logo, but it's open to anyone who wants to put in any logo. Just send me the file. The only condition is that the license were free (public domain, Creative Commons, ) I plan to put the logos in this repo in a Spreadshirt/Cafepress shop that I want to open in a medium time. But the main intention is to have a collection of ConTeXt logos freely distributable. Once I open the shop, the intention is not to earn money, else that fans of ConTeXt could have their t-shirts, cofee cups, . Surely I donor the few dolars I win to NTG, CTAN or something else. I meet another two problems.
1. I'm using the solution that you give me in 'runme.tex'. I find when I need
to write a citation such as (Hoekwater et al 2009; 小郭 等 2009), I will be
in an awkward situation. With the solution, I cannot have both English
citation and Chinese citation in one \cite. Although it not a serious
problem, it would be better if it could be done.
2. The pubsep can be set in \setupcite, but it doesn't affect the separation
between compressed citations. For example, I set 'pubsep={;}' and I still
get (Hoekwater 2008, 2009). How to change the comma between 2008 and 2009?

The pinyin has 5 kind of tone for one pronunciation. As it's hard to
input, and in CJK 1,2,3,4 are use to represent the tone, (the fifth
is no special tone mark).
In the book for children, the pinyin always show above the Chinese
like the picture I upload.
To make it show correctly is an good start, but if there are some
tools to automatic add PinYin , it will be more attractive. In Chinese
they do have the character which have multi pronunciation, but most of
them only has single pronunciation, I can try to find out some dict to
translate Chinese Character into PinYin if anyone can help integrate
this convert tool into context.

The Unihan database could be a start. We also need to find a way to report if a character has several possible pronounciations, and let the user input the correct one in the given context. A solution like can be easy integrated in a ruby command because
you need only a command parameter for the ruby text,
e.g. \setupruby[command=\pinyin] but you're looking for something
like the translate module.

Hi all, to start the threat here is what I use(d). On my old Windows machines I used Subversion because it was easy to use with TortoiseSVN but since I'm on my Mac I use Mercurial for my files. If you can provide such a list Hans can add the information to char-def.lua, As I mentioned, the Unihan database has a very comprehensive list (probably too comprehensive). I made it into a Lua list, but need to polish it (sorry, 500+ Kb, not attaching). It can be downloaded from http://github.com/reutenauer/luapinyin then tools/pinyins.lua We will need the \pinyin command anyway, for the cases where there is an ambiguity. From your replies, it seems easiest to do what Aditya suggested; use the commands luatools --generate context --make I looked at this message and also went to the link he had in his message. My question is, am I supposed to be in any specific folder when I run those. TL2008 is the best for latex ,etex, pdftex and so on, but mkiv/luatex in TL2008 are already old . [NTG-context] switching layouts for a float
Hi Friends,
Still working on having a travelogue with a text column on one side, and
then a plate of color photos on the opposite page. Floats are working
well for this with \startcombination[2*2]. My problem is that the text
pages, have a wide margin to accommodate marginal graphics, and I don't
know how to switch to a wide layout with tiny backspace and margin just
for the combination floats. I'm trying:

Okay, I have installed the minimals. It works with a file I tried without tikz. The examples on the wiki also work well. It does not work with a file that has tikz code in it. It stops compiling with ! Undefined control sequence. l.13 \starttikzpicture Does Tikz not work with mkiv? Hi everyone, After fighting with ConTeXt one month, I find it's too difficult. I have two years experience of LaTeX. I never thought ConTeXt could be so difficult. Using ConTeXt is like climbing a steep mountain, every step need extensive searching, reading, and asking. Sorry for the useless complain. I'm stuck by so many problems. I might be lack of the basic knowledge of ConTeXt. Could someone tell me where I can find manuals or papers that describe the logic of ConTeXt design and basics of ConTeXt programming. I understand that Hans and every one are occupied with building MKIV (aka LuaTeX), and that documentation is not their highest priority. There's the wiki, the wonderfully active mailing list, and what used to be decent docs from 2001/2002 timeframe. But yes, it's a steep hill to climb, made worth it only by the relative awesomeness of ConTeXt. If there is an existing strategy for creating documentation, I'd love to hear it. My feeling is it's it's time to pay someone to write some good docs. Someone who's not on the development team, who has experience writing technical documentation, and who can shepard list members into crowd sourcing some real documentation. MKIV is stabilizing into usefulness, and now is a good time to start. I suspect list members would donate to such a project, plus we could get some grant money (if that's not all dried up due to the global economy), and maybe some contribution from Pragma itself, and other orgs that depend on ConTeXt. A patchwork quilt of financing, and a project coordinator/writer who sees their work as a labor of love, and a side job, could make this happen. Even if we could only afford 10 hours of work a week, that could get a lot done. In terms of process, I think someone to comb the list archives for common problems and solutions, and wikify them would get the most bang for the buck initially. These wiki entries could later be ConTeXtified into printed (and screen) docs, like Hans' awesome old manuals. Honestly, we've got smart people wasting time answering the same questions in different ways on the list, when they could be plugging in some of that time into writing docs for everyone. And as useful as the list is, it's no substitute for manuals. If I understood ConTeXt I'd volunteer, but I'm a noob, so I'm feeling the same frustration as Wei-Wei. I feel bad having to bug developers and advanced users every time I have a basic question. It's inefficient and inelegant, though I much appreciate the access to great minds and the window into the development process this has given me. Pile on to this thread, if this is a burning issue for you, or you have some strategy or expertise to offer. The above error basically means that you do not have tikz installed. Does your log file say that module tikz was not found?
