No it doesn’t work, the penalty is ignored and text from the first column

Thanks guys for trying to solve which I definitely tag as a bug ;-). It
seems there is no faster solution but surely Hans will find one ;-) By
the user perspective it's an annoying behaviour and I have to change
manually the paragraphs (adding \{*}skip commands). I think you will
find a solution at the end. It's too much technical discussion for me.
I'm sorry I can't do anything else. But I'm glad to see this
discussion (so mantain me as CC)

If I could do anything, please say to me.

Thanks,

It is quite obvious for me that Pragma won't fund such an enterprise

are quite beneficial to the ConTeXt ecosystem, too.

I do not get you here.

[NTG-context] man pages for ConTeXt: looking for volunteers

2013-03-21 Thread Mojca Miklavec
Dear users,

In preparation of this year's TeX Live release, it would be nice to
also revise man pages a bit.

Hans just implemented auto-conversion of help into man pages for the
lua scripts. So the options are described as they should be, but if
there are any volunteers to help polishing out and provide either more
extensive descriptions, examples, ... or overall improvements, you are
invited to leave some feedback or provide some help (additional
text/descriptions or syntax corrections).

The old man pages are at
http://svn.contextgarden.net/suite/man/
and the new (possibly still experimental) man pages are now part of
ConTeXt (see doc/context/scripts).

An excellent idea. To cut the work into bite-sized pieces: over the
coming weeks, I will post these files on the list one by one and
solicit specific improvements / check for befuddlement. First, though,
I have some questions:

1. I assume the man pages are created from the XML files, and we

2. Is the XML-to-man script included in the distribution? That would
(a) make it easier to check the result of an edit, and (b) make it
easier to find the answer to question 3 for myself. ;-)

3. Is there a key to specify bold and italic in the XML? (\fB...\fP
and \fI...\fP in the man page.) Or, if you want to keep it semantic:
are code (\fB) and emph (\fI, or also \fB) supported?

4. I really really like the subcategory groupings of the flags in
the XML files. This useful grouping doesn't show up in the man pages,
however. Perhaps the end of a subcategory could correspond to

.TP

in the man pages?

5. Lastly, I think it would be good to include a standard SEE ALSO
block at the end of each man page, to list all the scripts we have man
pages for. This will make it easier for users to discover the man
pages. Example below. If such a block could be supported, I would be

[NTG-context] Missing number, treated as zero error when using \definefont with \define'd dimension

2013-03-21 Thread Lars Huttar
Hello,

I reported a Missing Number error back in December (thread at
http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2012/070471.html) but got
sidetracked on another issue before finding a resolution.
Now I'm back to the Missing Number error, and I have a short example
that reproduces it:

  \define\largefontsize{13pt}

  % Works fine: \definefont[SerifL][Arial at 13pt]
  % Leads to error:
  \definefont[SerifL][Arial at \largefontsize]

% Missing number, treated as zero error thrown on the following line:
  \starttext \SerifL{Hello} \stoptext

Note that the SerifL font definition works fine (no error) if I
hard-code in 13pt instead of using an intervening \largefontsize
definition. But if I hard-code the point size, it would hamper the
modularity of our font configuration and the use of modes in which
different size fonts are used.

Maybe \define is just the wrong command to use when creating an
identifier for a specified dimension?
I tried changing it to \def and the error went away!

I looked up the documentation of \define
(http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/define) and \def, and couldn't
find any obvious difference, except that \def is TeX and \define is
ConTeXt. The wiki page I just linked to mentions differences between
MkII and MkIV, but this error occurs in both (in XeTeX and LuaTeX).

Can someone help me understand why I should not use \define for this
case? (Or in general, when I should not use \define?) Or does the
problem lie somewhere else?

Thanks,
Lars

 Hello,

I reported a Missing Number error back in December (thread at
 http://www.ntg.nl/pipermail/ntg-context/2012/070471.html) but got
sidetracked on another issue before finding a resolution.
Now I'm back to the Missing Number error, and I have a short example
 that reproduces it:

  \define\largefontsize{13pt}

Commands created with \define aren’t expandable, i.e. when the content
of \definefont is passed to Lua \largefontsize remains a TeX macro and isn’t
converted to the dimension. To get a expandable macro use \defineexpandable
to create \largefontsize (untested).

I hope this clarifies the problem I posed to myself in wanting this.

[NTG-context] bibliography (interaction)

2013-03-21 Thread Alan BRASLAU
Hello,

1. Is there some way to enable interaction with bibliographies? (i.e.
hyperlinks from the citations to the list.)

2. Can one create an index of author names, for example, listing the
pages of citations?

Hi Alan,

1. should work by default when you have \setupinteraction[state=start]
in your document preamble. 2. is not possible, AFAIK.

In principle you could mess with the list as bib's are using them:

\definelist
  [pubs]

\setuplist
  [pubs]
  [\c!state=\v!start,
   \c!criterium=\@@pbcriterium,
   \c!headnumber=\v!always,

This example declares four figures to be placed elsewhere: alpha,
beta, gamma, and delta. The first \placenamedfloat call places all
figures with l in their name (i.e. alpha and delta; the next two calls
place gamma and beta, respectively.

Hmmm. I do (\setupinteraction [state=start]), and it doesn't (work).
Other interactions work, of course.

I'll have to play around with it, starting with a *minimal example*
before I ask any further questions. :)

And I'll play around as well with Hans' suggestion regarding the index.
