Hello,

I am trying to use the resume module with the moderncv interface 
without any success so far. I have errors when I am trying to use any 
of the added commands like \setresumevalue or \cvline. Log file is 
attached.


Here is my context file (CV.tex) :

I have compared the list of the installed files of an old version of 
the ubuntu context-modules package 
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/fr/precise/all/context-modules/filelist) 
with a recent one 
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/fr/xenial/all/context-modules/filelist) 
and it seems to me that the moderncv interface was removed in ConTeXt 
some time ago. Is it really the case ?
Yes, the moderncv interface is gone (together with the alternative 
interfaces for the letter module) but you can see a different method 
below. If you really want a copy of the moderncv package for ConTeXt you 
should convert the LaTeX code to ConTeXt and make a separate module for it.

A simple question : is it usefull to get a very quick access to a documentation
where explanation is absent ? That's why the current explanation is very useful
: even if you have to read full pages at length, the explanation given in the
PDF documentation is an accurate information and oftenly says something which
allow to lead to a solve your issue. So, it seems there is a conflict between
the desire of a quick access to relevant information and the need of learning
ConTeXt with patience !

One trap that a user can fall into is to make a complete style at once.
because much works out of the box, one can delay styling and just define
/ setup things as the document evolves.

Another trap is to start with some existing complex style. If you look
at the manuals you'll notice that there is not that much being set up.
Of course there are complex setups possible and we need them for complex
xml to pdf workflows with lots of different structural elements and
designer demands and exceptions, but that's not that common i guess.

Your wikibook approach sounds useful. I often put examples i run into
(or make when testing new code) in the test suite that can be downloaded
but i wonder if many users can use that (too many files).

Some kind of "if you need this, look there" system would be nice. If you
want keywords, the i-*.xml files are a good starting point.

Because instead of "modern" the first page has the title "schola".
The command \showmathfontcharacters is defined in s-math-characters.mkiv 
but you

don’t load the module in your example.

The command \showmathfontrepertoire is defined s-math-repertoire.mkiv 
which loads
the characters module, the \showmathfontrepertoire command passes its 
arguments
to \showmathfontcharacters and the difference between both modules is 
the output.


You can check both modules for all differences and make a list.

not to duplicate fonts, who knows.

So independent of whether or not this gets resolved in Debian, you
should figure out why the font isn't found by ConTeXt. It might also
be that ConTeXt only finds the Type1 fonts and then stops searching
any further.


I have found that the texlive-fonts-recommended package installed on my 
system has also some marvosym related files :

I removed this package and it works ! I tried to reproduce the bug again 
by reinstalling this package and by removing the cache, but strangely I 
am no more able to reproduce it.

I would like to typeset a page in small format (for example A5) and 
immediately put the result on the current page (for example in A4 
format). In this way I can demo the result of some operations like 
variations in footnote parameters in a running text, etc.

If this can be accomplished, how?

Hi,

Some of you will know already that the module author section of

https://modules.contextgarden.net

is functional again, as presented at the ConTeXt meeting last month.

However, nobody can log in, because module authors now have a password
(no more automatic wiki-connect). For new module authors, the registration
process will handle the setup of password and such, but legacy authors
need manual intervention.

So, if you are the current maintainer of a module on modules.cg.net,
please drop me an email message so I can hand you a temporary password 
for

logging on (the old wiki-connect code did not store e-mail addresses
either, making it hard to reach everyone except via this list).

It would be good if the current authors could update their module
metadata(s), because the new code has support for a “works with 
mkii/mkiv”

flag as well as some other new fields. Also, I welcome comments and
feature requests, now that the website code is in a language I can
easily program in.

Once most of the modules have been updated to reflect their mkii/mkiv
state, I can start designing a search/filter interface to improve the
front-end of the site.

Unless Hans remembers what he fixed exactly, my only idea is doing a
bisection over
https://bitbucket.org/phg/context-mirror/commits/all

In case you find the fix, I can "backport" it to TL's repository and
users doing regular upgrades with tlmgr will get it at least.

[NTG-context] modules.contextgarden.net update

Hi,

Some of you will know already that the module author section of 

  https://modules.contextgarden.net 

is functional again, as presented at the ConTeXt meeting last month. 

However, nobody can log in, because module authors now have a password 
(no more automatic wiki-connect). For new module authors, the registration
process will handle the setup of password and such, but legacy authors 
need manual intervention.
 
So, if you are the current maintainer of a module on modules.cg.net,
please drop me an email message so I can hand you a temporary password for 
logging on (the old wiki-connect code did not store e-mail addresses
either, making it hard to reach everyone except via this list).

It would be good if the current authors could update their module
metadata(s), because the new code has support for a “works with mkii/mkiv” 
flag as well as some other new fields. Also, I welcome comments and
feature requests, now that the website code is in a language I can 
easily program in.

Once most of the modules have been updated to reflect their mkii/mkiv 
state, I can start designing a search/filter interface to improve the
front-end of the site.

[NTG-context] typeset page in page

I would like to typeset a page in small format (for example A5) and immediately 
put the result on the current page (for example in A4 format). In this way I 
can demo the result of some operations like variations in footnote parameters 
in a running text, etc.
If this can be accomplished, how?

Works fine for me with

and a file "test-error.tex".


Btw: Your error report reminded me a miktex bug last year, where
everyone thought the hyphen was responsable but at the end it was
the length of file names (multiple of 9 broke) which naturally
changes is one remove the hyphen ...

Dear Wolfgang,

thanks again, this solution works nicely for me.  However, it only represents a 
workaround.  Do you think it is possible to patch it somehow in the core?  
Perhaps the definition of the mathmatrix has to be adjusted somehow (in 
context/base/mkiv/math-ali.mkiv).

\setbreakpoints[compound] instead of my complicated hyphen thing (Updated 
example is below.).  Also I'm very sure that it is mainly related to the

I'll have to look into Hans's rewrite of streams. As far as I remember, 
they were much more complex (offering synchronization etc.). Also, 
streams seem to be bound to full pages and don't offer backgrounds. So I 
think I'm looking for something simpler, yet more versatile.

[NTG-context] ANN: Updated Vim scripts for ConTeXt

attached you find an update of the Vim scripts for ConTeXt.
A few highlights:

- jump commands ([[, ]], [{, ]}, ...);

- jump to file included with \project, \component, etc... by typing
 gf when the cursor is above the filename;

- tp (TeX paragraph) text object (e.g., use gqap to reflow a paragraph);

- i$ and a$ text objects;

- better integration with MetaPost (indentation and autocompletion
 inside \startMP...\stopMP... works automatically);

- syntax highglighting can be enabled for any nested filetype (MetaPost
 and Lua are enabled by default);

- compiler plugin, supporting mtxrun and Makefiles;

- Asynchronous typesetting with :ConTeXt command.

I plan to submit these changes for inclusion in Vim, but I'd like to
get some feedback, especially re background typesetting and especially
from Windows users.

I recommend to test with Vim 8.0 patch 22 or later.

I have a wish list for independent frames and would like to know if 
this is possible in ConTeXt:


1. left and right pages in a doublesided document have frames with 
independent text flow, i.e. the text from p. 2 continues on p. 4, from 
p. 3 on p. 5, etc. The frames are regular frames and can have 
backgrounds, borders, etc.


2. After a couple of pages, these frames end. Below them, the text 
flows normally, i.e. begins below frame on p. 6 and continues below 
frame on p. 7.


3. Since I want to take my data from xml, the content of the frames 
will be taken from buffers.


So this would give, in pseudo-code:

\startleftrightbuffers
\leftframe{\getbuffer[left]}

\rightframe{\getbuffer[right}
\stopleftrightbuffers

Here, the normal text begins, it will flow below the frames...

Is this possible? How would I code that?

I can confirm that running context tl 2016 (2016.05.17 19:20) on your 
example triggers this error; the same file compiles cleanly with the 
current beta. Not sure if this is good news or bad news for you...

As an example I executed the following code:

The result of the first call to \foo, however, is not "This is nofoo" but the 
name of the nofoo macro. I expected that \nofoo would have been executed 
instead. That would have been beneficial, because the missing macro \foo can 
then be substituted for something the programmer thinks useful.
Is this correct? Or am I doing something wrong?

I would suspect that OSFONTDIR or something else in the process
doesn't work correctly.

ConTeXt will only be able to typeset the document if it can find the font.

All the Debian developer can do is add the font to the equivalent of

/usr/local/texlive/2016/texmf-dist/fonts/truetype/public/marvosym/marvosym.ttf
(not sure where exactly that is), but it might be that their policy is
not to duplicate fonts, who knows.

So independent of whether or not this gets resolved in Debian, you
should figure out why the font isn't found by ConTeXt. It might also
be that ConTeXt only finds the Type1 fonts and then stops searching
any further.

prefixconnector is the separator between the section number (=prefix) 
and the float number (=figure number), the symbol at the end of the 
float number is called numberstopper. In your example you don’t have a 
section which can act as prefix number no did you change which 
prefixes should be shown (by default only chapters are used as prefix).


The suffix key you use (together with suffixconnector and 
suffixstopper) is used to show the number for subfigures, e.g. figure 3.a.

Here is a working example for the use of the prefixconnector key.

avoid boilerplate templates and let users roll their own styles. Which

document classes that predefine many details.) I have problems imagining 
a collection of sample documents that will be more than a haphazard 
bunch of fortuitous designs.

Yes I just saw that you are right about the documentation, they have
already made a huge work on that. I was maybe too quick about my
conclusion, I am sorry if I did offend those who have already make all
that work. I was actually doing a cover letter in ConTeXt and since I
wasn't able to find uptodate informations about some of the commands I
was a little frustrated. But yes the letter module is third party and I
just saw in the wiki that it is said to be still in developpment, so
interface changes are to be expected and not necessarly all documented.
Since I am new to ConTeXt, my views on ConTeXt documentation got biased.
But now I am pretty happy with the results I have with my document, so
most of the troubles are behind, I guess :-).


Don't worry, no one feels offended. FYI, Pragma is not that large a 
company so we cannot allocate more resources than we do now (and did the 
last couple of decades). We just provide the manuals we write in the 
process and happily leave the rest to others.



On the other hand, some of the documentation still need to be updated.
Since ConTeXt is quick to evolue, having uptodate documentation would be
a huge task and I also understand that it may not be the most
interesting part for developpers ;-). My proposition was about to
mitigate that problem with making accessible examples with some advanced
search to quickly find relevant results.


Not all old manuals will be updates. There are already a lot in the 
distribution and another 6 on my disk waiting for an mkiv update. These 
are often covering a specific aspect. I happily leave writing additional 
manuals to others.


Each year at the context meeting this topic pops op and there are many 
plans but a lack of time interferes.


Btw, Alan is writing a larger story for beginners.


Maybe someday ConTeXt will be more mature and have a more stable
interface, then it would be easier to have uptodate documentation. But
it is only the analysis of someone who is only starting to know ConTeXt,
so I won't assume to be totally correct.


The interface is actually rather stable otherwise we could not use it 
ourselves. However the move to luatex made it possible to kick out code 
related to input and font encoding as well as update to new technologies 
so there have been changes.  So, the trick is to point new users to the 
right examples and documentation.
