The bird was there today moving along the fence and going deeper in the 
vegetation at times.  Even as far as the neighboring houses.Also, the gates to 
the parking lot were closed today, so birders had to park in the nearby areas 
and walk to the parking lot.

A beautiful adult Red-headed Woodpecker was actively feeding on the ground and 
the various oak trees that border Greengate Park and the more familiar 
Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown (closer to Rt. 347 entrance) around 9:30 
this morning.  Also present in the area were 8 Northern Pintails, 23 
Green-winged Teal, Cooper's Hawk, several Brown Creepers, 2 Purple Finch, 4 
Rusty Blackbirds, and a rather loose flock of American Goldfinch totaling 21 
birds.

[nysbirds-l] Northern Goshawk at Big Egg Marsh, Queens

I was just sent pictures of a juvenile Northern Goshawk that was
photographed at 1 pm today at Big Egg Marsh. Too late for me to get there
now but I know where I will be first thing in the morning. If you are local
might be worth a shot if you can get there before dark.

[nysbirds-l] Northern Goshawk at Big Egg Marsh, Queens

I was just sent pictures of a juvenile Northern Goshawk that was
photographed at 1 pm today at Big Egg Marsh. Too late for me to get there
now but I know where I will be first thing in the morning. If you are local
might be worth a shot if you can get there before dark.
