[openssl.org #1222] Please introduce versioned symbols

2005-10-17 Thread Christoph Martin via RT

Hi,

Please introduce versioned symbols in openssl, so that programs linked
to different libraries which in turn are linked to different versions of
openssl will not break. The transition from version 0.9.7 to 0.9.8
without versioned symbols is really a pain otherwise. I sent a proposal
to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Please use the tag OPENSSL_0.9.8 etc.

See the discussions in Debian:

Hi Richard,

Richard Levitte via RT schrieb:
 Care to tell us exactly what's wrong with it? There are more files
 where the name part spans several lines, for example des.pod, so I'm not
 sure why this specific file would be a problem...

Please have a look at
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=87547archive=yes.

But I had a deaper look at it. The twoline NAME section in the pod file
was a problem some time ago and I fixed it for the Debian version in the
pod with joining the two lines. I missed to forward the patch to you
then. Now I did some cleanup an found out that it is still not fixed,
but missed that you made a patch to pod2man.pl which makes it accept
twoline NAME section.

So I think this should be fixed now. I remove the patch from the Debian
version an try again.

This did not happen with 0.9.6, and as far as I can see from source both in
openssl and cyrus, it is being done as it should be:

(when compiling cyrus21-imapd source)
tls.c:612: warning: assignment from incompatible pointer type

Which reads:
SSL_CTX_set_info_callback(ctx, apps_ssl_info_callback);

ctx is defined as:
static SSL_CTX *ctx = NULL;

and apps_ssl_info_callback is:
static void apps_ssl_info_callback(SSL * s, int where, int ret)
{
...
}

The culprit appears to be (in openssl source:)
include/openssl/ssl.h:
#define SSL_CTX_set_info_callback(ctx,cb) ((ctx)-info_callback=(cb))

(the above is also duplicated in ssl/ssl.h and other places).

This bug is rather annoying, as I like to keep any code I work with
warning-free, and now I can't even use -Wall to find any new warnings
to squash :-)

Argh, you are right. When I tried to verify the problem. I only testet
the 0.9.6g binary but had the 0.9.6c libraries installed. So I assume,
the submitter of the bug made a similar mistake.

Sorry, to bug you.
