My links control

2009-07-07 Thread Nigel Hertz
Morning all,

At the top of all sites and pages, there's a My Links control that
shows links you've added to your personal site. Is there a way to
customise what is shown on the control's dropdown? (ie Hide the 'My
Sharepoint Sites' part etc)

Kind regards

Nigel Hertz

Howdy folks

Some of you may remember an issue we had here a couple of months ago (first
mail on 1 June 09) whereby no MS Office docs could be copied from a document
library's Explorer view on our production server, because of a parameter
incorrect type error.

We have - sort of - resolved the issue. It seems that disabling the web
client service on the client machines forces the system to use other methods
of copying the files, and the copy process then works correctly.

We're unsure how this situation arose, as well as being unsure as to what other
implications disabling this service might have, but it's a start.

Hey Michael,

I hadn't actually seen that document myself, but having a brief look
through it, it covers the same steps we went through with MS Support.

The strange thing with the whole scenario, was that the problem only
occurred on our production server using workstations. Using workstations
on our extranet or test environments worked fine, and using citrix on
production worked fine.

Content Deployment - reparenting issue

2009-07-07 Thread Paul Noone
Hi all,

I've never had a problem with this before but can't seem to get around this
error.

microsoft.sharepoint.spexception: The file...cannot be imported because its
parent web...does not exist.

I am trying to simply import a document library from one site to another. I
have tried with and without dependencies and various version and security
settings to no avail. FWIW, this happens to be the document library with the
dodgy content type I can't delete. :)

Any ideas on how to migrate this content and retain the metadata??

Hi Ken,

My Sites are individual site collections so they don't inherit changes
even if you make them at the root site. You would need to modify the
site definition in advance or set the them programmatically after the
fact. That being said, you can apply a global theme to your Profile
pages because these are all generated from the root site -
mysitedomain/path/_layouts/settings.aspx.

As for your back link, this can be set from the same application page
via the 'Portal site connection' link.

If you look at the URL for Profile pages you'll see that they all come off the
root My Site, not personal ones.

If you apply a them to the top-level site then this should certainly affect all
Profile pages.

The My Home link is a personal site and the homepage for individual sites -
e.g. domain/personal/myname - again, check the URL and you'll see what I
mean.

Subject: RE: My Site Themes

Hey Paul,

Sorry I don't quite follow how to apply the global them to profile pages? I
have set the theme on the main site, it doesn't propagate through to sub sites
or profile pages though?

On the My Site (for my profile) I have set the theme and that Portal link,
which is exactly what I was after...how can I propagate this to everyone's
mysite though?

Cheers,

Hi Ken,

My Sites are individual site collections so they don't inherit changes even if
you make them at the root site. You would need to modify the site definition in
advance or set the them programmatically after the fact. That being said, you
can apply a global theme to your Profile pages because these are all generated
from the root site - mysitedomain/path/_layouts/settings.aspx.

As for your back link, this can be set from the same application page via the
'Portal site connection' link.

Subject: My Site Themes

Hey All,

Just wondering if there is a way to apply a theme to everyone's My Site,
currently if I apply it only does it for my own site, I want it to do this
globally.

Also there doesn't seem to be any links what so ever to take the user's back to
the main site. Am I missing something?easy way to change this?

Dodgy content types - part 2

2009-07-07 Thread Paul Noone
Hi all,

I've got a document content type that seems to have magically taken on some
extra columns that can't be deleted. Neither do they inherit from anywhere.

[cid:image001.jpg@01C9FFE0.BD9F9840]

They're not visible in the View or Edit forms so it's no biggie, just a general
concern.

Incoming email settings are also disabled.

RE: My Site Themes

2009-07-07 Thread Ken Thompson
Ok, thanks for that! Profile pages sorted :-).

I can't seem to change the personal pages, if I try and goto:
http://sharepoint/personal/_layouts/settings.aspx I just get a 404
error. Should I look somewhere else to change the master theme for the
My Home pages?

If you look at the URL for Profile pages you'll see that they all come
off the root My Site, not personal ones.

If you apply a them to the top-level site then this should certainly
affect all Profile pages.

The My Home link is a personal site and the homepage for individual
sites - e.g. domain/personal/myname - again, check the URL and
you'll see what I mean.

Also, My Profile / My Home pages within My Site seem to use separate
Site Themes...this is all seems a little too confusing to me :S
