Custom Field Control failed to render
HI all, I have a custom field control which works beautifully with default.master but fails to render when using our own, or any of the MS publishing masters. Figure 1 - Custom masterpage [cid:image001.jpg@01CB96DD.A9F844F0] Figure 2 - Using default.master [cid:image002.jpg@01CB96DD.A9F844F0] I've compared the non-functioning masterpages against default.master but can't find anything missing. Can anyone think how this might occur or what the cause might be? RE: Custom Field Control failed to render
You should check the logs for the detailed exception, it will probably unravel the underlying issue. Or if you have the source code for the field control, attach to w3wp and turn on first chance exceptions in VS. SharePoint 2003 List migration
Hi Guys, Have been moving items around within a SharePoint 2003 environment. One of the items is a survey that already has results sitting with in the list, with the author being the person that filled out the survey. When we go to move this to a new location via SharePoint Designer 2007, we are finding that when the results are coming across, the author is being changed to the username used to migrate the data, effectively destroying the name attached to the survey answers. The question here is, does anyone know of a way to move these items to the new location, preserving the author details? We still have the original data intact so attempting to move the items again won't be an issue. Apologies if there's anything I may have missed and thank you for any assistance! Kind Regards, Michael ___ ozmoss mailing list ozmoss@ozmoss.com http://prdlxvm0001.codify.net/mailman/listinfo/ozmoss

RE: Custom Field Control failed to render
What you need to do with debugging this sort of stuff generally is to set the logging output to 'error' or 'verbose' in diagnostics and logging, then cause the error (ie hit the page), then switch it back to normal (don't forget this or your logs will end up huge J), then your error logs should expose more information about the crash. (It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure that's how you do it). Hi Jeremy Very impressive indeed. The learning that you would have gone through to create this would have been immense. A very impressive piece of collaborative work and I still shake my head at how you managed to keep up the mental bandwidth to do it on top of your day job. RE: Custom Field Control failed to render
Yep and ULS Viewer is your best firend for real-time log viewing for this too. I'd add a few filters and search for the exception you get in the UI. E.g. set web.config to show debug info too. You're a machine Jeremy - video of your first born: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWmVrfjDCyw The most frustrating part of the project had to be dealing with and coordinating so many people involved in the project, and having to deal with the time zone difference between Perth and the USA. Quite an accomplishment indeed. The website looks awesome! Sezai. On Wed, Dec 8, 2010 at 2:23 PM, Jeremy Thake jth...@made4the.net wrote: Thanks Paul.
