loading sound fonts on the sound blaster live usb 24 bit external soundcard?

2007-01-05 Thread hank smith
hello I just purchased a sound blaster live 24 bit external sound card and
am having trouble loading sound fonts in to the card.
the sound font manager is not speech friendly.
this no longer uses audio h q as its control interface
is there any way to load sound fonts either via a third party soundfont
loader or scripts or set files to use this manager with jaws or window eyes?
Thanks
Hank

I will say that while total Recorder is easy to use, as part of the
Sound Computing series, for a total of $9.00, you get fifty audio
tutorials/articles and four of them are instructions for setting up
 and using total Recorder.

That's correct and with Lepard this screen Reading package is further

Its amazing just how many people who sell Mac machines aren't aware
of this, when I first went to look at a Mac over a year ago at my
local Mac reseller, I bowled him over by following a simple
instruction someone else had given me which was, To activate the OS
tiger VoiceOver screen Reader, boot up the Mac machine and press
command-F5 and hold down the FN key whilst doing this if you're using
a notebook, did the trick alright and I've been using my Ibook ever

Re: New to Total Recorder questions

Not at all! Total Recorder is perfectly accessible though you may
need to label a few buttons and graphics. If you're a user of Window-
Eyes then I've created some Total Recorder set files where I've
labeled allot of graphics, labeled allot of buttons and named some
edit boxes.
You'll find Total Recorder a breeze to set up particularly now that
Version 6.0 has that Recording Wizard built-in to the functionality
of the software, this can test your recording facilities before you
start to ensure that all systems are working on your machine.

Testers needed for mobile web server

2007-01-05 Thread petrakigianos-giasou
I hope some of you can help test this for me.

When: Friday Jan. 5, 2007
Time: 11:10 AM - 9:15 PM EST (Eastern Time USA)
Test is: See if you can access the server, Listen to mp3 file,
see if you can download the mp3 file to your hard drive.
Email me at with results: [EMAIL PROTECTED] - put
in subject line Server tested.

Go to the website:

http://petro.webhop.org

You will see petro-recordings at the top of page.

You will find the recordings link. Open this link.

You will see test file: replay-av-801.mpe

See if you can listen to this sample mpe file.

See if you can downlaod the mp3 file. I need to know if the
download was fast enough for you. Tell me how long it took to
download it.

If you cannot access the above URL address please let me know
this by emailing me privately.

The mp3 file is a file I sent to Applian Tech to explain the
accessibility issues I had with Replay AV 8.01 which now have
been corrected for us with Replay AV 8.03 release as many of you
are already aware of this fix.

I plan to do more podcasts if I can get this mobile server to
work for me. With your help I may get this project up and
running soon.

Thank you very much.

Re: Macks and speech access.

2007-01-05 Thread Dane Trethowan
The Apple Mac computers have always had reasonable speech ever since
I can remember first playing with one in 1989 and it certainly hasn't
gotten any worse in the various revisions and new voices that come
shipped with OS Tiger, a new range of voices will be shipped with OS
Lepard and if you really want top quality speech then you can get the
Infovox voices, they're the best voices I've ever heard out of any
computer system and the most natural sounding human-like voices
you'll get anywhere.
There is a link to a demo of the new OS Lepard voices and the Infovox
voices so I'll dig that out.

Re: imic

2007-01-05 Thread Dane Trethowan
That's a fair question and the answer is that you may not need an
Imic if you already have a sound card however, the Imic I have to say
leaves the quality of the SB Live etc way behind so for the Price?
Well that may be worth considering.
The other great thing about the Imic is that it just works on a
Windows box or a Mac, no drivers required at all so its great! if
you're installing speech with Windows and you need to use that
Windows Utility Manager, you can move it between computers as it just
plugs into a USB port and now I come to think of it, its nice to be
able to access the Imic to say remove plugs or change them, try doing
that with a sound device in a computer when your computer is
installed in a computer desk and see how long that all takes smile.

Indeed, that's a good enough reason as any. The Sound Blaster Live
packed it in on one of my Windows boxes but not to worry, off to buy
another Imic so if anything breaks down in the Sound device
department ever again, the replacement job will only take 5 seconds
instead of ten minutes.

Re: Macks and speech access.

2007-01-05 Thread Tom
If you want to discuss working with audio on the Mac that's
fine with me. However, the thread was getting into the Mac
operating system and speech access to the operating system
and that is off topic.

When you subscribed to the PC-Audio list the welcome message
defined rules and guidelines for the list and asked you to
unsubscribe if you didn't agree to follow them. I didn't
write the rules, I'm just using them as they were originally
written to define the purpose of the list.

Well, I need some clarification, how is this off topic
We all use computers for audio--what else---and to me it
shouldn't matter whether it's a mac or Windows computer, I
wasn't asked that when I signed up. These discussions effect
me tremendously because I do a lot of audio production on my
machine and most of the production houses I'm familiar with
in town use a Mac with Pro Tools so I'd like to know these
things. If we were arguing about the difference between Jaws
or Window-eyes to me that would be off topic.

2007-01-05 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yeah, put it like that fair enough but when thigns like Screen Reader
discussion come along then yes, I would think that such a discussion
is drawing a few lines but an alternative audio solution?? Yes, why
not! I use Sound Studio on my Mac here and its essentually a cross
between Total Recorder and Sound Forge, boasting many features of
both programmes including multi track editing. I'm very pleased to
say that Sound Studio is quite accessible too.

Well, it cannot be compared to JAWS or Window-Eyes but really, I
don't know whether this list is the place to have a discussion on
this particular topic. A few messages ago, one of the other listers
gave an url to a very good resource page where you can find allot of
info on VoiceOver, what people are using it with and for and an
extremely informative email list to boot.
If you go to http://www.apple.com and search for VoiceOver, you'll
find a mound of stuff there too including tutorials on VoiceOver and
various applications in multiple formats which include MP3 Audio and
HTML. Naturally, I will answer any questions anyone has off list, I'm
not a Mac expert by any manner of means but if I cannot answer a
question then I can hopefully point you in the right direction.

Its amazing just how many people who sell Mac machines aren't

this, when I first went to look at a Mac over a year ago at my local
Mac reseller, I bowled him over by following a simple instruction
someone else had given me which was, To activate the OS tiger
VoiceOver screen Reader, boot up the Mac machine and press command-F5
and hold down the FN key whilst doing this if you're using a
notebook, did the trick alright and I've been using my Ibook ever
 since.

I am working with a client who has recently lost most of his vision

Is there anyone here who can provide me with information concerning
 the Mack and speech access?

I personally have never used a Mack so I'm feeling pretty out of
 it.

Thanks all over the place gang.

You can use both sound devices under Windows, the Imic will be

Mac demos

2007-01-05 Thread Bobcat
You can hear audio presentation by John Gunn about Voiceover and Apple Mac
Tiger at:
Main Menu On Demand
http://www.acbradio.org/pweb/index.php?module=pagemasterPAGE_user_op=view_pagePAGE_id=19

The series starts with the 16 August 2006
 program.
Those episodes do not have text descriptions yet.

There are also older demos going back to 2005. Look for voice on the page
and you will find them.

This might answer some of the questions people are asking about Mac access
and voice quality. I wanted to point out this resource so that we can get
back on topic.

It will be great when we can hear in depth demos of Voiceover in Tiger.
