RE: Are any apple MP 3 players blind accessible?
Yes, the iPod Touch 3GS (16gb or larger) has a built-in speech synthesiser from Apple called VoiceOver. Also, the 4th Generation Nano can have track titles spoken by transferring sound clips from the PC. Problem with Audible and Windows Media Player
Hello, I've been experiencing a problem with the Audible enhanced audio format and Windows Media Player. When I load up a file, it doesn't play or go into the section navigation. When I try to play it, nothing happens and in the seek track bar, it won't go beyond 0. It plays Format 4 fine, however I don't want to have to use format 4 for everything because things such as stereo radio dramas on Audible don't work in Format 4. What is happening? Hi Joe, The fourth and fifth generation Nanno and the i-pod toudch with 32 and 64 gigs are accessible. Many people are using a script called j-tunes to run with Jaws and itunes. Apple is making most of their new gear available with access features built right in. Voiceover comes built into macs and the ipod touch and iphones. Hope this helps and let me know if you need more info. Rusty At 03:06 AM 4/15/2010, Joe spake thusly:- Well, the subject line asks the question. Hello Joe, All of the Apple iPods, have Voice Over on them. Yes, they do read things out loud to you. Things like, the names of audio files the weather time and date and so on. Re: Are any apple MP 3 players blind accessible?
Hi Joe, There are several models of Apple's MP3 players which can be made to speak. There are some early models of iPods which can be made to speak with Rockbox, then there's the Shuffle some generation or other and up, there's the Nano from 4th generation and on up, and the iPod Touch some generation or other and up. The 5th generation Nano and iPod Touch both have VoiceOver, Apple's screen reader, while the earlier models use voice clips to voice the items, much as Rockbox has done it for years. However, some people find it necessary to spend the extra money for the jTunes scripts so that they can use iTunes, which you need in order to do anything with your MP3 player. So as you can probably see, the price starts to add up. These MP3 players will play whatever you download from iTunes and if you wish to transfer your own files to it, iTunes will convert your files to a file format the Apple MP3 player can play. I myself have used a 4th generation Nano and was not very impressed by the voiced menu items and what it did voice of the folders and files. I was extremely disappointed with the jerkiness of the touch pad, which is shaped like a scroll wheel but is stationery instead. I ended up making changes to the settings which my sighted son had to go in and change back for me. Needless to say, I sold these off very quickly. I don't think any of these MP3 players offer expandibility, an FM radio, or recording capability, except for the iPod Touch, which I believe offers some recording with a special headset with a microphone and some sort of FM which I believe plays stations that offer broadcasts over the internet, but I leave that to others who know more about these players than I. Personally, the only one that I would be interested in trying out is the iPod Touch, but I can't afford one. Regards, Laz You wrote: Well, the subject line asks the question. Hi, I'm looking for the following information. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it. First, what equipment will I need to get started on creating a podcast. Can it be done on a budget of between 3 and 4 hundred dollars? Second, Once the podcast is created, how do I get it onto a podcatcher such as iTunes. Thanks, any info would be greatly appreciated. The only way I know of to do this is with Winamp. 1. Start playing the file. 2. Pause with C. 3. Jump to the desired time in minutes and seconds with CTRL/J. 4. Insert a bookmark with m. 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you've added all the jump points you want. A few caveats. 1. This only works with Winamp using the JAWS scripts as provided by FS. There may be equivalent functionality with Window-Eyes, I don't know. 2. The bookmarks are saved in a special JAWS-readable bookmarks file, not in the MP3 itself, so you can't take the bookmarks or the bookmarked file with you to another machine. Once the jump points are added, they stay in the JAWS Winamp bookmark file until they are removed. While it is possible to remove them without the use of Winamp, using Notepad or some other text editor, it's a little obtuse in how to do it, so the bookmarks file could potentially grow. Re: Marking long MP3 files for skip-to points
Hi. I don't think this is something you can embed in to an exact file. Your best bet is to either use winamp all the time with the bookmark file with all the times and such. Or to split your mp3's into segments. Time marks are not going to be compatible with different playing systems. As you've probably figured out. You cannot take an mp3 with time markers and play it in windows media player. RE: NLS CARTRIDGES
The only limit on a thumb drive that works is the size of the thumb drive. Each book from the library is a different size. So if you add up the size of x number of books and that size is still less than your thumb drive, then all those you added up will fit. I've had 14 books on one 8 gig thumb drive and still had about 4 gigs left. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Christopher Chaltain Sent: Wednesday, April 14, 2010 3:09 AM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Subject: RE: NLS CARTRIDGES I'd check out the BARD Talk web site, and the devices page in particular.
