I've never heard anyone claim that the noise reduction plug-ins you get
with Sound Forge have been the best nor have I heard anyone claim that the
noise reduction with Goldwave, Total Recorder or Amadeus Pro are the best,
Audio Engineers I know who work in this field have a good belly laugh when
I talk of these products and noise reduction, they're into things like
Final Cut Pro, Stineberg and similar but the problem for us is that
they're not accessible.

I have been using Goldwave, Sound Forge and Studio Recorder for several
years. With a little experimenting you can actually get better noise
reduction with Goldwave with less work and less time spent than with
Sound Forge.

Good evening listmembers.

I quite agree with Dane in my experience with Goldwave which I think
delivers excellent value for your buy. The only feature missing
compared to more high powered sound recording/editing packages such as
studio Recorder is audio cuing during the edit marking operation. Happy
recording and editing.

Hi folks!

Its been a while since I've played with Goldwave as I prefer to use
Amadeus Pro on the Mac but it doesn't hurt to have fingers in the
Windows pie smile. Anyway to cut a long story short I was given a
job where noise reduction in parts was required as part of the audio
editing, I can handle this stuff quite easily with Amadeus Pro but as
I'd never given the noise reduction function in Goldwave a go before I
thought that the ideal opportunity was presenting itself.

To be frank I was amazed at the quality of the result I got for a
first try and I'm prepared to stand by the claim I'm about to make and
that is the Noise reduction functions of Goldwave rival those which
are part of more expensive products such as Sound Forge. Furthermore,
the sections in the manual describing how the noise reduction system
in Goldwave works are incredibly well written without boring anyone to
sleep so all one has to do if they want to try the noise reduction
function is to read for a minute or so and the have the basic
knowledge required to get started.

So what's Goldwave worth these days, $59.00 or thereabouts? Damn good
value for money and I'd almost be tempted to say its a Giveaway!
when one also considers its many built-in powerful functions and the
fact that the author has gone out of his way to make this product
accessible.

2010-08-14 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

Hello Dan,
I have my computer and stereo system hooked up like that right now.
But only, I'm using an old Fisher 500-c stereo receiver that has vacuum
tubes in it that was made in 1963.
My speakers are comprised of 2 Jensen P12N alnico drivers in each cab that
are crossed over to 20 HZ for woofers and a Jensen 8QR alnico driver in each
cab that are crossed over to 60 HZ for mid ranges and 4 horns in each cab
that are also crossed over to 256 HZ for the high end.
I get pretty close to studio quality sound from this set up, and it sounds
grate!
I did once have a pare of 32 watt mono block tube amps that I built from a
set of S-5 Electronic kits, but I lost them in a tornado a copal of years
ago right along with my house that was also destroyed in the tornado as
well.

But the good news is, I am in a brand new house.
So I was able to reconfigure my whole system to sound like I once did
before.

My best regards.

Hi John,
I used a 25 foot stereo cable with one y-cable having a mail transister

etc.) On the other end are two female rca jacks (in my day we called
these pin jacks. You would plug the male rca jacks from one end of your
25 foot stereo cable into the female jacks on the y-cable. Plug the male
transister jack into the out of your pc. this is where you normally plug
in speakers. Plug the two remaining mail rca jacks into the in jacks of
your stereo system. Now when your stereo is on the augsiliary setting.
Now when using your computer it should come through your stereo.

All depending where you look, they can be gotten for as little as $35 or
as much as $300.

digital output of your sound card, you'll notice one huge difference in
doing this than if you were to say connect your computers sound card

Re: connecting?

2010-08-14 Thread DJ DOCTOR P

Hello Curtis,
The answer to that question on both accounts, is no.
Here is the reason why.
Your USB headphone microphone combo is using a digital to analog converter.
I done some explaining a while back on this list to a gentleman that wanted
to hook his stereo amp up to his computer.
But in order for that to work, you will need a digital to analog converter
that uses some kind of USB inter face.
But as far as switching that to strait analog to use with a Victor Stream,
You would have to work it the other way around.

Instead of being digital to analog, you would have to go analog to digital.
As far as I know of, nobody has come up with a unit that will do that.
Hope this helps.
My best regards.

Hello Howard,
That idea will work but, the cassette deck will have to be on record in
order for it to work.
But now, the draw back with your Sound Max intigrated sound card is, you
can't monictor the recording while it's being made.

Just something for you to think about.
But if you really to record sounds in stereo, a 6 channel mike mixer will do
the trick for you.
Just plug the mikes in to it and pan one to the right and the other one to
the left.

But the mixer will have to be pluged in to your line in on your sound card.
Again, just something for you to think about.
My best regarg

Hi,

ok, are you trying to just download the vidio, or edit the vido? if
you're just trying to capture the vidio, then free download manager
will do what you want for utube vidios. If that's all you want to do
with total recorder vidio pro, then there's no use paying for the
feature.

Free download manager does a bunch of other things, some I use, some I
do not. I like it's sie explorer option for some sites for example.

  Hi folks!

Its been a while since I've played with Goldwave as I prefer to use
Amadeus Pro on the Mac but it doesn't hurt to have fingers in the
Windows pie smile. Anyway to cut a long story short I was given a job
where noise reduction in parts was required as part of the audio
editing, I can handle this stuff quite easily with Amadeus Pro but as
I'd never given the noise reduction function in Goldwave a go before I
thought that the ideal opportunity was presenting itself.

To be frank I was amazed at the quality of the result I got for a first
try and I'm prepared to stand by the claim I'm about to make and that is
the Noise reduction functions of Goldwave rival those which are part of
more expensive products such as Sound Forge. Furthermore, the sections
in the manual describing how the noise reduction system in Goldwave
works are incredibly well written without boring anyone to sleep so all
one has to do if they want to try the noise reduction function is to
read for a minute or so and the have the basic knowledge required to get
  started.

So what's Goldwave worth these days, $59.00 or thereabouts? Damn good
value for money and I'd almost be tempted to say its a Giveaway! when
one also considers its many built-in powerful functions and the fact
that the author has gone out of his way to make this product accessible.

But you're right about one thing, today's stereo and AV receivers can

Only my opinion but you can't go past a sound card or board with a
digital output, if your system has a digital input then connect it to the
digital output of your sound card, you'll notice one huge difference in
doing this than if you were to say connect your computers sound card

Sometimes the USB adaptor is separate and if that is true, you can
disconnect the headphones from the adaptor and use them on the sound
card directly.

I have a pair of Shure D55 dynamic mics that I bought in 1963. I'd like to
use them for session-type recording into my sound max integrated sound
card.
Currently, I was thinking of plugging the mics into a Pioneer tape deck
and

taking the output from that into the sound card's input. Does anyone have
opinions or better ideas? anxious to hear what anybody thinks.

Thanks.

Hello all,
I found the perfect program to capture Youtube and other videos. It's
called Replay Media Capture and you can try it for free from
www.applian.com. If all you want to do is capture videos from Youtube
then the demo is enough; other recordings however will be shortened by
half.
Enjoy!

I got the same thing with Samsung G-track device. I replaced its USB cable
for another one and it corrected the thing. You can also try to lower sample
rate and see if it helps a little.
I believe, I saw on Google something about some USB mic with special feature
to reduce/eliminate any noise generated by its USB cable but cannot recall
the name of this mic.
Best,

Richard,
Big time. Thanks a lot for these classes. I've just listened to a sample of
one of them and love it already.
Best,
Pawel.

would it be better to plug the microphones in to a mixing desk so you

I have a pair of Shure D55 dynamic mics that I bought in 1963. I'd like to
use them for session-type recording into my sound max integrated sound
card. Currently, I was thinking of plugging the mics into a Pioneer tape
deck and taking the output from that into the sound card's input. Does
anyone have opinions or better ideas? anxious to hear what anybody thinks.

Thanks.
Howard

RE: XLR to USB converter

2010-08-14 Thread Hamit Campos
Yeah, I only asked because if they did work with stereo mikes, this would be
a very interesting way to hook up an Audio-technica AT822, or an ATR6250 to
your PC. I mean, yeah you can use the eighth intch jack, but this way seems
more direct to me. I don't know maybe it's just me. You know what else would
be some what interesting, if yould could have an XLR jack right on the PC it
self. I mean, this way you don't have to bother with a mixer if you don't
want to.

I'm no expert, I don't have one, but I'd be very surprised if they don't
work with microphones.

Bob I think there is. I seem to remember that it is called the Mic Mate
 made

by MXL, a Chinese maker of microphones. It supplies phantom power to your
condenser microphone from the USB port. that may work for Paul. try
 looking
 for it on Amazon.

 Hello Pall,
I don't know about stand alone XLR to USB adapter converters.
But if you really want to make voice recordings using an XLR microphone,
you can use a USB mixer that has XLR mic inputs on it.
 My best regards.
  John.

On Innovations this Week: Creating Podcasts and the Tyros 3 Keyboard

2010-08-14 Thread Steve Pattison
This edition of Innovations can be downloaded from the Global Voice
Program Gallery at
www.theglobalvoice.info/gallery.php?show=innovations

On this week's Innovations, John Hess concludes his talk on recording
for podcasts and looks at mixing speech with music. We then look at more
of the instrumentation on the Tyros 3: this time it's guitars with a
mandolin thrown in for good measure. For additional help and information
about using the Tyros 3 as a visually impaired person, visit Wally's T3
