Purchasing Music

2010-11-02 Thread Kris Hickerson
Hi All,

I am frustrated! All I want to do is locate a website where I can go in and
purchase two or three songs that I'd like to have, but I don't want to sign
up for any music service or anything like that. Is there such a site.

I've already tried Amazon and they have what I want, but I can't just
download the song I want, they want me to buy the entire album. I only want
to purchase one song. Every site I go to they want you to sign up for
something and I don't want to do that. All I want to do is buy one song.
Yes, I'm perfectly happy to buy it. I'm not looking for free music. I just
want to locate the song I want.

Suggestions?

In the UK at least, Amazon let you download just the tracks you like
from 69 pence upwards.

There are many of these weird things I use the induction loop coils in a
hearing aid for.

I can hear the hard disk of my iriver hard drive booting up for example.
And my cell phone to know if it's starting up or not.

If a normal hearing person can get hold of a small amplifier with an
induction loop built in, you will be able to check all kinds of
interesting things.

Hi!

Now this tip isn't going to be for everyone as not everyone wears hearing
instruments which can be used with induction loops but if you do? Well
here's a handy way to use your instruments to great effect when sorting out
one of the very few functions of the Zoom H1 which isn't accessible.

I'm talking about the Bit and Sample rate of the file you're recording, this
is changed in Standby mode by using the fast forward and rewind buttons,
rewind takes you back through the cycle whilst fast forward takes you
forward through the cycle of bit and sample rates.

When recording using Wave Broadcast format you cycle through 44.1KHZ 16 Bit,
48KHZ 24 bit and so on right the way up to 96KHZ 24 and back to 44.1KHZ 16
bit so how to tell where you are.

Well turn your instruments to pick up induction loops and put the recorder
near them. Now start recording, you'll be able to hear the recorder as it
writes to the SD card and the slower the rate of writing then the small the
sample size, 44.1KHZ 16 bit has the Zoom H1 writing to the SD card about
every half second whilst 96KHZ 24 bit has the H1 writing to the SD card
every sixth of a second or so.

Just thought others may find this helpful as I do, still haven't worked out
a way to set the date and time for date/time stamping of recordings but I
have to admit to not trying too hard, after all! one can change all that
when the files are copied from the H1 to your computer.

Kris,

Amazon, Rhapsody and Walmart would be the ones I'd suggest. All will let
you purchase individual tracks unless an individual track is somehow limited
by the copyright holder. In those cases, the whole album must be purchased.
This tends to happen with particularly popular songs/tracks.

I would suggest checking all of the listings for a particular group to see
if the track might be available individually on a different album from the
one you first looked at i.e. it might require the whole album be purchased
on a greatest hits collection, but could be individually purchased on the
album upon which it was originally released or vissa versa.

Good luck!

\Peter, I may not have the answer because I am not using Windows 7.
The only reason I even respond to your post is to ask a question. Are
you able to record the stream by using the open URL option in the

you definitely wont have to worry about JAWS being heard on the
recording because the stream is being downloaded directly to a file
rather than going through the sound card.

Another thing to consider. In the TR installation, there is a listing
of recommended drivers to be installed and used by TR. Did you have
TR default to the recommended driver?

I address these issues humbly because I haven't yet migrated to
Windows 7. As a matter of fact, I am still using XP, and intend to
keep on using XP until I cain't use it no more g. I take this stand
because TR and other hard and software are still working well enough

Good luck, and hopefully someone can better address your problem than I.

As I said, if you record the stream by opening the URL, you don't
have to worry about hearing your synth in your recording. If you
record from your receiver, you record using line in and you don't
have to worry about hearing your synth either. I'll have to do some
experimenting with streams using the software driver, but I don't see
why you should hear speech with a netcast unless you are using the
what you hear setting. That can be very frustrating until you figure
that one out.

I think I'll work with some of this tomorrow just to refresh my
memory about how I used to do things before I discovered recording by
passing the sound card entirely with the open URL option. I'll let ya
know how things turn out.

Hi Larry and list: Well..I'm using the 'standard version of TR, so I don't
remember if this URL thing is an option with this version or not!

As I said, if you record the stream by opening the URL, you don't have to
worry about hearing your synth in your recording. If you record from your
receiver, you record using line in and you don't have to worry about
hearing your synth either. I'll have to do some experimenting with streams
using the software driver, but I don't see why you should hear speech with
a netcast unless you are using the what you hear setting. That can be very
frustrating until you figure that one out.

I think I'll work with some of this tomorrow just to refresh my memory
about how I used to do things before I discovered recording by passing the
sound card entirely with the open URL option. I'll let ya know how things
turn out.

Okay..this kind of brings up a question: I'm using Windows XP; I have
Total Recorder 7. If I change to software..can I then record an audio
stream..and do email (or whatever else I want on here)..and Jaws won't
interphere? Or is this a totally different thing?

\Peter, I may not have the answer because I am not using Windows 7. The
only reason I even respond to your post is to ask a question. Are you
able to record the stream by using the open URL option in the file menu?
If you can do that with the stream you are recording, then you definitely
wont have to worry about JAWS being heard on the recording because the
stream is being downloaded directly to a file rather than going through
the sound card.

Another thing to consider. In the TR installation, there is a listing of
recommended drivers to be installed and used by TR. Did you have TR
default to the recommended driver?

I address these issues humbly because I haven't yet migrated to Windows
7. As a matter of fact, I am still using XP, and intend to keep on using
XP until I cain't use it no more g. I take this stand because TR and
other hard and software are still working well enough to meet my needs.
But when that starts to change...

One of the more frustrating things I've found with the latest releases of
TR are the way speech lags within the menus. I have to believe that the
folks at High Criteria can do a better job with that issue. Surely they
appreciate their loyal blind following enough to address the problem.

Good luck, and hopefully someone can better address your problem than I.

Larry

discouraged to find that when I record, I not only record the internet
stream, but I also record Jaws. In Windows xp when I set the recording

the best feature of the Total Recorder program! Is there a way to fix
this?

Thanks,

How accessible is the amazon downloader? I downloaded it and found it hard
to figure out. I have an account with Amazon and they are a good site.
If anyone has tips on how to use the MP3 downloader, it would be greatly
appreciated.

In addition to what Mary said, it doesn't cost anything to download and
install the Amazon mp3 downloader or ITunes. you need to have an account
with both stores however to purchase anything.

Chris,
Amazon lets you buy an awful lot of single songs. Have you checked in
their mp3 section? also, Itunes does the same. Those are the two that
come to mind.

Mary

Re: Iriver with Rockbox

2010-11-02 Thread Edwin

Hi there Dane,

5 years u said? its indeed a long time. actually, rockbox has come quite far
now. their latest version is 3.70 and has been rock solid through these
years. there is a utility that the team has come up with for u to do all
relevant rockbox stuffs which is the rockbox utility which can be downloaded
from www.rockbox.org. its not the most accessible software around but with
some efficient computer knowledge, its definitely usable. let me know if u
need further help and I'll see how much I could assist you. I dare not say
I'm extremely efficient, but my last built was version 3.60 so I think I
could roughly help u a little if u so need.

Thanks.

Regards,
Edwin.
