Re: Recommendations for an audio book reader?
Unfortunetly not, and also, bookport don't support aac plus streams, wich is the most commin format these days. That caused me to stop using such player for streaming as all the stations I want to listen to are in that format now. My provider cant supply me with another compatible format. I suggested that total recorder also add that format to their streaming list. But with the new stream, chances that it will support that format are stronger, since it already support m4a format, bookport does not. And I doubt it ever will. I'm curious if they've ever been put in a head-to-head test to see which one faired better? Right now it looks like they both do the same thing, but the Victor Stream reader does seem to integrate the player more seemlessly with various book sharing sites. That's what I really want. Don't want to have to keep plugging and unplugging my reader to my PC to upload books to it. I want it to have that ability built directly in via Wi-fi. Avoids any USb connection issues for sure. However, one has to do a bit of tweaking to make the app navigable. For one thing, the main menu buttons at the bottom are unlabeled as far as Voiceover is concerned, so one does have to create custom labels which you do with a 2-finger double tap and hold gesture. Actifating the categories button enables you to browse the channels, which is much more than can be said of the SXM listening webpage. A revolutionary Audio Conference - let's hear our voices!
Hi list, Today I'd like to start with presenting the Audio Conference we'd want to invite you to try. I'm just an intermediator which means the programmer and creator is somebody else but I'm writing this invitation on behald of him. The Audio Conference is based on posting messages you speak simply by your voice not typing. Once you register with that and log in you can pick the English section and further it works normally on a treeview basis. You keep arrowing up/down and entering the main topics and threads falling into the main temes by clicking the enter and returning by backspace. Just easy as pie:). An example I firmly hope will be lucid enough to understand: Say you have the topic U.S.A. in which you go by clicking the enter and then you have the separate threads e.g. New York, Michigan, Florida, Texas, California etc. and here in the separate states you can start your new thread (ctrl+n) pause the actively playing post (ctrl+p) or reply to another thread (ctrl+r) just like you do in this conference in the subject line. You can find various types of topics e.g. Fun, Computers, Introduce yourself and so forth. All by your voice so the only thing you need is a microphone attached to your computer. If you run Skype or other sound apps e.g. Sound Forge, Adobe Audition, Audacity, Goldwave etc. you know how it goes. In case you have a laptop it normally has a microphone inside which isn't quality enough but is hearable quite enough. You can record anything you want to say, you can give it a listen before sending it out to check out whether it sounds well or record it again when you find out it's not as you wanted it to look like you can attach the URL to your thread or reply to a thread that somebody else recorded before you, you need to fill out the subject line, set pools and many other countless things you'll find in the application menu (left Alt key). The major thought of this Audio Conference is connecting cultures, helping people to get to know each others, improving English of non-native speakers for instance, or just squibbling, sharing hobbies, books you read, music you listen to, just anything you can think of. Everything by your voice. So when you're not embarrassed to speak loudly and proudly you're the right one to give it a shot! It can have many opportunities e.g. fliers of supermarkets in your area about the cheaper products you can purchase or some electro stuff you've discovered or just bought and want to tell about to other users. So what to say at the end? Don't hesitate and give it a try, it's a revolutionary thought, a higher level than e-mail conferences. And finally what's the best thing about this program? You don't need to install it messing up your registries, you can extract it to the folder you have to create before extracting the program into this folder so you have nothing to screw up and lose. Easy registration easy structure and easy work. Nothing overcomplicated and you can understand everything intuitively and i mmediately. No tons of uneventful and tedious user guides to read first. And when you can't figure anything out you can find it right away in menu (left Alt key) and all the submenues there. Please if you encounter a problem you want to notify us of or discuss with us send it at ta...@wo.cz I'm the administrator of English section so I concede some strings I've translated don't have to be well formulated so I'll also appreciate any help in relation to English translation. It has the .lng file and each string has a number at the beginning of each line so when you find one or more mistakes copypast it corrected with the number as well so I'll know what to edit. For instance: 306 When recording, you can not see URL label 307 During playback, you can not view the URL label and so on. Thank you for your attention and we look forward to hearing from many of you. And a last information. Please send this invitation or tell of this Audio Conference to as many your friends relatives or colleagues as you can to make more people notice this to get involved. The more people the more fun! You can use a conventional USB keyboard instead of the supplied remote control/mouse if you would rather but I haven't gone down that road yet as I'm hoping to be able to control the whole thing from the XBMC Remote Controller App for IOS. If a USB keyboard isn't your thing and freedom means a lot to you then you can use a wireless keyboard instead. So I'm at a dead end right now smile and will write more on this project when I'm able to get someone to read my monitor to see what the Pi requires, I reckon it will probably want details of various servers it can use for TV shows, Movies and so on. ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org ** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Recommendations for an audio book reader?
Let me ask one more question. Is there a service on-line that streams descriptive movies/videos to either of these players? Don't believe Netflix offers such a service, but I'm hopeful someone out there does realize that the visually impared community would enjoy watching/listening to a good movie every so often. So many Oscar movies I would love to not only hear, but get some sort of descriptive narritive of what is going on too. I am hoping that these features will be implemented on the Victor Reader Stream in the future. Ok, so at least now I've narroed my choices down to the Victor Stream or Book Port Plus. Is there any audio demonstration available shocasing either of these 2 devices? I'm curious if they've ever been put in a head-to-head test to see which one faired better? Right now it looks like they both do the same thing, but the Victor Stream reader does seem to integrate the player more seemlessly with various book sharing sites. That's what I really want. Don't want to have to keep plugging and unplugging my reader to my PC to upload books to it. I want it to have that ability built directly in via Wi-fi. Avoids any USb connection issues for sure. Wish there was a coupon or something available to reduce the price of both devices. I would just shell out the money for both of them so I can test them on my own. It hasn't been on the market long enough to judge how well it will hold up over time. I've had a Book Port Plus for 3 years and have had no trouble with it. I purchased the BookSense when it was released 4 years ago. I have had the same problems with this device as other users. The speaker and Lock Switch both need replacement. The rattle in the speaker doesn't bother me too much since I usually use a headset. Intermittent failures of the Lock Switch are a bigger problem since they render the unit useless until I can persuade it to unlock. Some day the switch will fail completely, and I will have to send it off to Texas for repair. As for the Bluetooth feature, I consider its implementation on the BookSense XT to be rather poor since you can't control the unit from a headset. I've also experienced Bluetooth disconnecting from my headset when audio is paused for a few seconds. Both the Book Port Plus and new Victor Reader Stream have wireless capability. Both will be adding the ability to download books directly without using a computer. This doesn't appear to include Audible books, however. All 3 devices play Audible books very well in my experience. I like navigation a little better on the Book Port Plus and new Victor Reader Stream with their dedicated navigation keys. Boy, you give 3 nice options to select from. I'm Googling info on all 3 devices. Wish there was a podcast or something that compared the 3. It's really tough to make a choice. Since my main use for the device will be to play Audible.com audio books, guess I need to stick with that device which does this the best? Can you tell me which one is your pick? yAt 06:39 PM 9/30/2013, you wrote: I would recomand either the book port plus, plextalk pocket or booksense xt - Original Message - From: Aidan aidan.smartt...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, September 30, 2013 3:53 PM Subject: Re: Recommendations for an audio book reader?
