putting records on hard drive
Hi Guys, I just got a Stanton T92 three turntable. It really looks great. My question is how to transfer 78rpm records onto my hard drive so I can put them on cd's. The manual mentions Audacity for putting them on the hard drive. Is this a good speech friendly program to use? I've not been able yet to find out how to download it. I'm using windoweyes and windows 7 64 bit. Any suggestions would be really welcomed. I know so little about all of this making it kind of overwhelming. Thanks. Hi gang, Don't know where to ask this question but it sort of has to do with audio. I ordered a stanton t92 turntable stanton t92 from Amazon for $299,00. I haven't even received it yet and now see they are selling it for $249,00. My question is how I can contact Amazon customer service. The phone number I have is no longer working. Re: three speed turntable
Thanks Matthew for the info. Actually I have a Guitar center quite close here so I guess I'll pay them a visit and see what they have now. It sounds like you've had yours for a while now. BudAt 07:33 PM 5/12/2015, you wrote: I don't remember the model that I bought at the Guitar Center, but it's a Stanton. I needed to be sure that it would play 78s if I spent the extra money to get the parts for a 78 stylus, so I asked that question at the store. We tested this, and on the model I found, you press the 33 and 45 buttons at the same time, and it swings up to 78rpm. Once I got that figured out, I then had to get the 78 playing capability. The clerk looked up the particular needle I'd need to get, and I bought an extra headshell so I could unscrew the one for 33 and put in the one for playing 78s. The thing is that you need to get the three pieces separately. The needle fits onto the mounting bracket with the wires, and that part gets wired into the headshell. I needed sighted help with this project. Replacing the needle itself isn't a problem, since that just slides off and then on again. I hope this helps. If you're not in close proximity to a helpful store like Guitar Center, Stanton were very helpful over the phone with their descriptions. Oh also, if you have a patch cord to run audio to your computer, and you intend to transfer things digitally, you don't need to get a USB model. I find that USB carries a lot of noise over its wire, so using the standard mixer works fine if you've already got a mixer setup. Matthew Bud Schwab W 6 Z Y P El Segundo, California

RE: bose speakers
Hi Mary, I'd be interested in hearing a little more about those speakers you mentioned. Cost is a little bit of a consideration, but I'm more interested in quality and size. I'm moving into a very small place compared with where I am now and can't take my big speakers. I didn't intend to start a big discussion here of Bose. Actually I had mentioned I was looking for speakers and so many people are answering me about Bose radios and sound systems. I'll look forward to any info you have on those speakers you mentioned. Hi Mary, Thanks for the info. I looked at the 685LS and it sounds real good. As far as a woofer, their frequency range sounds very adequate. I believe they go down to 40 hz. At 92 I don't need that real low, boomy bass that the teen's like. BudAt 06:36 PM 1/18/2015, you wrote: Hi Bud, I put a new subject line reflecting your original interest. The Bowers and Wilkins speakers I had in mind are the 685 s2. I do not personally own these. I have had larger floor standing BWs in the pastg as well as in wall bWs in a home we lived in a few years ago, and they were all wonderful. Presently, I have the mm1 computer speakers, which are awesome for their size. Here is a link to a cnet review of the 685 speakers. The only knock on them, as you would expect, given their size, is that they don't go way deep in the bass. BW does make some small subs that would do the job for that if you had the space. Cost of these is $650 which ain't cheap for a pair of bookshelf speakers. http://www.cnet.com/products/b-w-600-series-685-speaker-wired-series/ Bud Schwab W 6 Z Y P Malibu, California
RE: bose speakers
Actually I already have the tuner and amp and was just looking for some good quality small speakers and thought that Bose made something like that. They wouldn't even have to be powered speakers although powered speakers would be fine. Thanks for all the responses. I do have a Bose radio and it has a great tone for it's size although is a little short on the high frequencies. At 06:30 AM 1/18/2015, you wrote: Hi. Sounds like to me you are after a hometheater system from Bose right? The highs are very good, but the what I seem to remember being JBL speakers in my Samsung PC moniter TV combo are better at it. A real high pitch sound I love testing the highs with is Zilla 98's roar. She wistles along with it, and if you have a good high frequency response, trust me you'll hear it. Especially in the seen in chapter 6 where she roars right in Nick's face. Man you hear that awesome wistle to it. Super epic! Oh yeah, the cheapest surroundsystem from Bose is $1700. They also lack a lot of cool things like 7.1, 4K, not sure if they'll upgrade to HDMI 2, and fore those that might care, DLNA. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Bud Schwab Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2015 10:49 PM To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Subject: bose speakers Hi Gang, I'm going to have to move soon too a much smaller place than I now have and will have to give up my current large speakers and woofer. transferring audio tapes to cd
Hi Gang, I see a similar subject going on here but I seem to be having a problem trying to do it. I have done it in the past with no problem but it has been quite a while and I'm a little hazy about it all. I do have CDEX and total recorder and a couple other programs. My problem is however when I feed audio into the audio input jack I get no sound from the speakers. I used to do it with this particular setup. I'm running windows 7 64 bit and windoweyes. I tried to do a diagnosis and got this message. Both windows audio and windows audio end. builder services must be running for audio to work correctly. At least one of these services isnl't running. This is kind of above my head. Anybody have any ideas as to my problem and any easy way to fix it? Thanks in advance so much. This was a group called The Christian Record and was produced back in the 50's and 60's and was only done at 16 rpm. I only have Total Recorder and CD recorder and I don't think either of them would do what I need. I know there would be sound degradation if I could even do that. Somebody suggested recording it at the 33rpm setting and then play it back at half speed If I had a tape deck which would do that, but unfortunately I don't have a dual speed tape recorder. Re: Accessible Internet Radio devices
Hi Dane, I have the jjSanyo r227 internet radio which I really like and think it's great. As you say though, it does take a pair of eyes to do any scanning or searching unfortunately. It has only eight presets, but I have eight of my favorite station set in them. It's somewhat limited, but if you pick eight of your favorite ones then it's not so bad. If you get tired of any of the stations you can have a sighted person help you to scan to find some others. I've had it for about a year now and have never regretted buying it. there are a lot of interesting stations out there just for the looking. If you have any questions please email me. Bud s At 06:06 AM 3/28/2011, you wrote: Hi! Does anyone manage to use a standard Internet type radio device? by that I mean a device which you just purchase from your local Walmart or local electronics Retailer? Obviously the user would have trouble setting the thing up due to the lack of speech or other accessibility but just supposing you had someone set the radio up to match your wi-fi network and they programmed some presets for you, I can't see any reason why you couldn't scroll through those presets up and down as you would with some digitally controlled FM radios which have been readily available for the last quarter of a century, anyone got any views or had any experience with this. I'm looking at buying a stand-alone Internet radio for the kitchen though if I can't get one that won't work at all for a person with no vision then I won't be too worried, Ootunes on the Iphone and Ipad does a damn good job but I don't want to be carrying them around with me everywhere if I can avoid it. RE: Pandora radio
Hi Matthew, I didn't make myself very clear, Actually I'm trying to find a stand alone web radio that is blind friendly. I have a Sanyo R227 which is just what I want but it is impossible to operate the scann mode without the two most valuable organs most people have. Fortunately it does have sixteen presets so I can use it a little. I have had a Vose radio for a number of years and it is indeed a great radio and easy to operate. Thanks again and my apologies to the group for spending so much time on this. pandora radio
Hi Gang, I wonder if any of you are familiar with the Pandora web radio? Is it a stand alone radio or one that you have to use along with your computer? I asked about the music pal a while back and got no replies so I presume nobody had heard of it. I have a Sanyo R227 which is just what I want except it can't be operated without eyes. I'm looking for a web radio that has some presets and can scan for the thousands of stations around the world but it seems that there isn't such a thing that blinks can use. Thanks for any info. I don't have your answer if you want a stand alone radio, but if you want a great app for internet radio on iTouch or iPhone you really should take a look at OO Tunes. It has almost 30,000 stations, there is no monthly or yearly charge, and the app only costs $4.99. It works great with VoiceOver, and even has a setting to turn on VoiceOver accessibility that makes it work flawlessly. - Original Message - From: Bud Schwab budsch...@verizon.net To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2011 2:17 PM Subject: pandora radio Hi Gang, I wonder if any of you are familiar with the Pandora web radio? Re: lost my windows sounds
Hi Brad, Well, that was quite nice and detailed. It seems that arrowing and tabs vary from computer to computer, but I was able to get to everything. After I choose a sound and tab to ok and press enter it kicks me out and into the regular control panel list. So I go back in and try another sound but the first one seems to be gone. Anyway, I'll just have to keep fooling around and see if I can get it to work. You've given me the background and what it's all about but for some reason my machine isn't acting quite the way yours apparently does. Thanks so much for getting me this far and if or I should be positive and say when I get it going I'll give you a big shout Bud . worries here's what to do: 1. Go to your Control Panel, to your Sounds and Audio link, it'll open up to the Volume tab, just right arrow to Sounds tab. 2. Tab over four times and you'll be in a tree list of various events that sounds are assigned . You ought heere Windows Opened. This doesn't mean when Windows is actually opened, it just means the Windows tree list is opened. Other programs like I-Tunes, Quickbooks and etc. will be in this list as well. As you arrow down you'll see things like, Asterisk, close program, critical battery alarm, etc. These are the events you can asign sounds to. 3. Arrow down until you hear Close Program. then tab once and you'll be in a list of sounds to choose from, or you ought be anyway. 4. Arrow down until you see something you might like. If you tab around more you'll find a play/stop button to test the sound. You can try this but I've found if you do this? You'll need to ALT TAB off this Window and back again otherwise it just bonks at you.. no big deal but just so you know in case it does same there. 5. If you like that sound just tab until you get to the OK button and press enter. Then in the main window of the sound tab press the Save As button. Here you can either save it as a new scheme or override an existing one. I don't think it'll let you override the default, I'm not sure but I think it flagged me on that when I tried. Then all you need to do is make sure your newly saved scheme is the one set by looking in the list box by Alt down arrowing and setting it, or if it shows up when you're in that box already its already set to it. Now when you close Control Panel you should hear that sound. Hope this works. Brad On 1/9/2011 12:07 PM Bud Schwab said... Thanks so much Brad, that sounds like just what I need. Hi Gang, I wonder if any of you guys have had any experience with the Sanyo 227R web radio. I have one and it's a great radio but seems impossible to operate without a pair of eyes. Fortunately it has eight presets so I can at least get eight favorite stations. I don't know what kind of a readout it has but does anybody know of any place that might be able to adapt it so it could read out the settings so they could be fed into a little audio amp Thanks for any feedback anybody may have.? lost my windows sounds
Hi Guys and Gals, A strange thing happened a while ago, I lost my windows sounds, you know the one that sounds when windows turns off and when it starts. Plus some others including the sound you get when a piece of hardward is accidentally disconnected and a few others. I have all volumes turned on and nothing muted. If I look at the list of sounds they are all there and set for on. I am using windows, xp 3 and an SB live sound card. This all of a sudden showed up a few months ago and it really baffles me. I sure miss those sounds, anybody have any ideas? Thanks for any info. Bud Schwab W 6 Z Y P Malibu, California To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: lost my windows sounds
Hi Christopher No I don't have any other sound card, just the original sb live and I have that set for the output device. It's kind of baffling.. I do get other sounds like from K1000 and other sources like that. Bud At 09:54 AM 12/13/2010, you wrote: I assume your screen reader is still pumping out sound. What about your media player? And in any case, why buy a USB turntable? Most of the older models and a lot of the newer models are far better than some of those USB cheap things I've seen, plastic tone arms for one thing so really again, if you're serious about putting record to computer then buy a proper turntable that plugs into an amp, you can get preempts if you need them for your sound card and then? another question about Total Recorder
Hi guys again, I'm the guy who couldn't get total recorder to behave when trying to record. Well, now I find that if I record for maybe ten minutes or less it stops just fine when I press control P, but if I record longer, maybe 20 minutes or so it doesn't stop recording. I wonder if there is some kind of timer or limiter that I'm missing. I'm baffled! Thanks for any ideas. On another subject, CDEX that is. I have been looking at that also but can't find any way of finding the stop button with windoweyes off. Has anybody solved that problem? Thanks for any info on either. Total Recorder
Thanks to all you guys who helped me with total recorder. I now press control R for record and control P for stop and it still keeps on recording. There is probably something wrong with my setup here. Somebody mentioned CDEX as a good alternative so I think I will download it and give it a try. Thanks again to all you with your info and help. RE: Total Recorder
Hi Peter, That is a good possibility but I'm not sure what the cure would be. Everything is so intermittant that it makes it hard to pin anything down I haven't quite given up yet. Thanks. Bud. total recorder problem
Hi Gang, I haven't used Total Recorder for a long time and am now trying to put some cassettes on the hard drive. I turn off window eyes so it won't record the speech and then press spacebar to start recording. Then I press spacebar again to stop recording before turning windoweyes back on. Then I find that it is still recording. Are there some special hot keys I can use that might be more reliable? It seems like it used to work every time in the past when I did it that way. Thanks so much for any info. Bud Schwab W 6 Z Y P Malibu, California To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
