Help please!

2017-06-01 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

I do not remember if sent to the UK Radio Listeners or the PC Audio groups
so am sending to both.

On 17 January 2017, somebody sent a most useful list of links which he
advised works for all BBC radio services. Yes, all the ones I tried did,
but now, all of a sudden, the link for 5LiveSportsExtra when used in FireFox
announces the source file cannot be found, when used in I.E hangs, advising
gathering file information.

I paste back the complete list, looking at the format of links before and
after, I can't find anything wrong I would be grateful if the original
poster could take a look and either come back with a replacement link (or if
necessary list) which works.

Re: Recordings from the Sangean HDR16, KNX 1070 etc

greetings,

I am curious when people send links, often we have them twice, evidence this
sent by Dane:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10565527/KNX1070.MP3

When I send a Dropbox link to anybody, they receive a single link, if it is
the kind of file which on some systems plays instead of downloads, I then
put the "?dl=1" at the end of the link. If it is a folder link, then often
it has "?dl=0" at it's end.

I wonder why this is?

The link I plan to use for obtaining this file, taken from the one sent, is:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10565527/KNX1070.MP3?dl=1

this, I know, will work for me.

The link you ought to have sent is:

the file is downloaded by default, which is what most people want, when you
finish the link off with the characters "?dl=1" without the quotes, of
course.

Re: Inserting audio into a specific location in a file using Goldwave

2016-05-29 Thread Colin Howard
Dane,

Yes, Tim Cummings advised, but in case the original sender missed it, I will
repeat.

1. By whatever means, winding, playing, using jump commands Etc. get to the
place where you want the audio to be inserted.

2. Place start marker, which is left bracket, i.e key immediately to the
right of the letter p, there.

3. Select audio from file to be inserted, either by using ctrl-a to select
all or placing start / end markers round the portion to be inserted.

4. Ctrl-c to clipboard.

5. Switch back to file receiving new audio.

6. Ctrl-v will insert audio from clipboard at start marker position.

remember your markers will now be round the new audio so to check it is
correct you need to play across each marker, if incorrect, ctrl-z is the
undo command but be aware you may only have a few available, especially if
you are still using the default which I believe is 5. I've set my undo to
15, I think the limit (in V5.70 at least) is 20.

I hope this is clear enough.

Re: Goldwave and Going directly to a certain time in a file?

2016-01-02 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

GoldWave V5.70, I've just been playing and discover the following.

If you open the file, don't play or do anything with or to it, but simply do
ctrl-g. You are now in an edit box which, as you've not played the file
will contain the value 0:00:00. so now, assume you want to go 10 minutes
and 25 seconds into the file, simply replace by overtyping 10:25. If you
then put your start marker here, start playing and this is where it begins.
If you also wanted to end the segment, say, at 15 minutes 45 seconds, no
need to play the file, simply do ctrl-g, it should display the value you
entered earlier, i.e 10:25, don't move the cursor but simply type in 15:45,
press return and put your finish marker. If you now play the selection by
using one of the three play keys, you should start at the start marker and
finish at the finish marker. If you use the k key, it also will start at
the start marker but will play past the finish marker.

I have my three play buttons set as follows:

Play1 (f2) is set to play all, i.e from start to end of file.

Play2 (f3) is set to play selection, i.e whatever is between the start and
finish markers.

Play3 (f4) is set to play view, i.e whatever is showing on the screen this
is determined by my zoom ratio, I usually only have one second's worth of
the fjile on the screen but, of course, this can be less or more.

I find these settings ideal all the time.

Don't forget also, to set the scrub value, this is an edit field found after
the wind speed settings in the play tab. By default (certainly until this
version of GoldWave) it is set to 0.000 but I set mine to 0.150, meaning
whenever I move a marker or arrow key, I hear 0.15 seconds' worth of any
recording, this I find invaluable but there is a definite nack to making use
of the feature. Sometimes, when moving markers, you may hear more than you
need to delete, therefore, then, play the selection to find out exactly what
is between the markers. A case in point, is, when you might need to remove
a mouth click, usually only about .0002 of a second.

I hope these comments are of some help - I have been a GoldWave user now for
over 8 years and have been involved with sound processing eversince the days
of razor blades and reel-to-reel tapes!

Re: The Demise Of Winamp: Joy To The World!

2015-12-24 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

thanks for the file but why did you not modify the link to allow download?

The link you sent was:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10565527/19%20Joy%20To%20The%20World.mp3

but you should have sent the link as:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/10565527/19%20Joy%20To%20The%20World.mp3?dl=1

this allows one to select to play or save the file.

Please, all listers, in future, send audio files with the characters:

question mark
lower case d
lower case l
equals sign
digit 1

on the end of the file name at the end of the Dropbox link.

Thanks - and a happy Christmas to all!

Re: The Demise Of Winamp: Joy To The World!

2015-12-24 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

I was not given the option, not sure why because usually I am, hence don't
assume we all know our systems intimately, some of us are novices,
therefore, you should assume this and "play to the novice" as, usually, I do
- I sometimes forget though.

It so happens I've been in the computer world since 1969 and a computer
professional all my working life, I do know, hence when I noticed it
downloading to play, I stopped, modified the link and re-started and with
the ?dl=1 on the end, it downloaded as I desired.

Re: problem with goldwave

2015-12-14 Thread Colin Howard
Joe,

Ctrl and shift always relate to finish, ctrl no shift to start markers.

Dennis, have you checked your auto-scrol lock settings? Go into view menu
auto-scrol lock should be checked, if not, this is likely to be your
problem.

Ctrl l is the key stroke which toggles this setting.

Re: GoldWave and remembering which break spots I'd placed?

2015-10-01 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

If you insert cue-points, when you close the file you will be asked do you
want to save it because it has been changed? If you save in .wav and I'm
not sure what other formats, the cue-points are save in the file, otherwise
you are invited to save them in a file, located along with your audio file
i.e in the same location, with the same name but the extension .cue then, I
assume as I've never taken this action, whenever the file is opened from
this folder, the .cue needs be opened at the same time or maybe it will
automatically be imported, not performed this therefore I'm only guessing.

Of course, if the cue-points are stored such as may be in a .wav file, you
get them when opening.

what are cue-points for?

Cue-points enable files to be split into, say, tracks for burning onto a cd.
To make sure this works properly, you must at the start of the file put a
cue-point then the function knows the start of track 1. Also, once a
cue-point is used, any edits may only be carried out following the last
cue-point, i.e nothing between cue-points. You do not have to put a
cue-point at the end of a file, the final point denotes the start of the
final track.

On my system, splitting the file into tracks will use the current file
attributes such as format and sampling rate, you can set these as you desire
but remember, do not try and increase from an already low sampling rate, you
cannot improve but rather if .wav stay with the original, if .mp3 (and
probably other formats) go the same, lower, not higher.

After splitting, the original file remains with it's markers.

Control left bracket? what is this intended to achieve? can't bring to

What value is your play2 (f3) set for?

My play1 (f2) is set to play all, play2 (f3) selection, i.e whatever is

Re: another goldwave question

2015-09-26 Thread Colin Howard
John,

You don't change the wind forward or back values if you want to jump back or
forward 5 seconds, in case you are not aware of their location, press f11
and in the play tab which is where you land, tab can't remember how many but
certainly more than six, you should see a rewind which I think by default is
set at 2 the forward wind is set as 1 - meaning by pressing f5 or j, you
rewind at twice playing speed, by pressing f6 or l, you wind forward at
playing speed. Of course, these values are edit boxes and you can change
them, I have mine set to 5, the maximum.

To change how much the arrows / markers move, you need change the zoom rate.
By default on opening the file, the whole is on the screen - least I believe
this to be true though how a file of, say, seven hours can be shown I cannot
guess.

I've opened a file of 25 minutes, my view is one minutes' worth of file, by
moving my start marker once it starting at 0.000, it now shows 0.600, again,
shows 1.200, then 1.800 . . . the end marker moves back the same ratio.

I change the zoom rate to show ten seconds, the markers move correspondingly
less, starting at 0.000 one move with shift and right arrow the start now
shows 0.100, then 0.200 . . . the arrow keys move the cursor back/forward in
tenths of the zoom rate, I strongly suggest you envoke the scrub facility,
about which I wrote at some length a few days ago - this is an edit box to
the right of the two wind values and by default is set at 0.000 I have mine
set at 0.150 which gives me enough sound for each movement of arrow / marker
to aid with both finding my place and editting.

I note nobody in their replies have mentioned this incredibly useful
function, I cannot understand why it is not set on by default with, say
0.200 but it isn't. I played with values for a long time until I settled on
0.150 as being my favoured setting.

Greetings,

In answer to what version of GW John has, he replied:

5.07.

John, did you **really** mean

5.07.

or

5.70?

5.70 is the last version which will work for WindowsXP systems, 5.07 is a
very early version of GW V5, it works with windowsXP and windowsME but not
with any other windows system.

also 5.07 does not have all the access facilities introduced from 5.25
onwards.

If you are **really** using 5.07, this is probably why auto-scroll-lock
behaves differently.

Further answer to a question, the new GW scripts **only** work with systems
**after** WindowsXP they are created for GW V6.anything, only a 64-bit
program is now available hence the scripts are set up accordingly.

John,

You need auto-scroll-lock in the view menu to be checked then all markers
and arrows will do as you desire.

I did write to the group having forgotten to advise when giving details
about how to delete a selection from the file.

Re: Goldwave question

2015-09-21 Thread Colin Howard
greetings,

When detailing how to delete from a file, I first ought to have mentioned in
the view menu, for any arrow / marker to work, the auto scroll-lock must be
checked. Why one needs it unchecked is unknown to me, if designed to stop
file changes in order merely to use GW for playing files, use of arrows to
move through the file is also stopped.

Control with l toggles autoscroll-lock on/off, please can anybody explain
under what circumstances this needs to be unchecked. I am unaware if this
function is, or is not, available in GW V6.anything or if present, it's
function is in any way different to V5.570.

Joe Paton, any ideas on this matter?

you've a concert and would like to save each item as a track, this is when
the cue-markers become useful.

In this case, you ensure first you are at the start of the file, once you
begin to work with cue-markers, you cannot make any changes to the file, so
ensure first, all edits Etc. are finished and the original file saved.
also, be aware it is always wisest to work with files uncompressed, i.e when
still in their .wav (or other) formats, not .mp3 or other compressed types.
The more processing a file has undergone, i.e compresion and de-compression,
the more sound degredation will occur and once quality has been lost, it
cannot be retrieved.

So, having made sure the file is as you want it, go to it's start and insert
the first cue-mark, control with q. Now go on through the file, stopping
where the next cue-mark is to be placed, I always first make sure by placing
a start marker i.e left bracket then ensuring cursor is at start marker by
pressing my home key, then issue control with q. Continue until you've
reached the start for the last track and issue the control with q.

Now, you are ready to split the file into it's items.

In the edit menu, go to the cue-markers function which I think is open menu
and cursor up to the sub-menu, arrow right into the submenu and down to the
split file. Note, you can change cue-markers as there is a list of the ones
you have set but I strongly advise keeping it simple for now, go to the
split file within the menu. I cannot remember the tabs here, think they are
self-explanatory, eventually you will find a save button, enter on this and
ensuring you save into a location you want, allow it to work.

You should end up with a set of tracks, what their names will be depends on
how you process these tabs, but I tend to make then save as Track nnn (the
first being 001) into a folder set aside for such matters.

Then (I use Winamp) play the folder ensuring you have saved what you
intended, if happy, close the file from which you saved the tracks but
unless you want to keep the cue-markers, don't save the file.

Cue-markers cannot be saved in a file other than, so far as I am aware, .wav
format, if you try and save them, GW will warn you no way! but they can be
saved in a file of the same name if I recall rightly, with the exdtension of
".cue" this will happen in the same folder in which the file from which you
extracted the tracks, is saved.

Remember, I am using GoldWave V5.70, the last which works with WindowsXP how
V6.anything differs, as of now, I know not for though I have V6.14, have not
yet installed on my W7 machine.

Re: Goldwave question

2015-09-20 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

First of all, have you enabled the scrub feature for this is not enabled by
default?

To set this, press f11 you are now in the play properties sheet.

Tab past the settings for winding back and forward, you are then in an edit
box which, by default, has the value 0.000, I changed this to 0.150 which
means whenever I move an arrow or marker, I play fifteen hundreths of a
second's worth of sound. This makes editting much much much faster but
there is a definite nack to using in this way.

Assuming you have set your zoom rate to something sensible, such as one
second's worth of sound on the screen (shift with the number 2 on the qwerty
keyboard achieves this) movement of arrow / markers will give you an easy
way to place the left or right markers exactly where you need them.

Now, to find where you want the edit.

If you know roughly where it begins, say at 5:25 into the file, using the
shift e enter the time in the start marker position press enter.

Now play the file which if you have your play set will start from the start
marker, when you reach the actual place, press left bracket the marker is
then set.

If you need to move it slightly, you can do so using shift and left-right
arrow, you will hear sound as you move the arrow i.e marker. When happy,
attend in much the same way for the end marker, you can play, or jump
through the file until you reach the place where the edit is to end, press
right bracket, i.e the second key to the right of the letter p, and then
fine tune by using the control-shift and left-right arrow.

I have my three play cuttons set as follows:

Play1 (f2) set to play all

Play 2 (f3) set to play selection

Play 3 (f4) set to play view

therefore, to play what is between the markers, play2 to play what is on the
screen play 3, to play file from start play 1.

If happy, press delete, piece gone, play 2 should give silence.

Remember control z can undo either to your system maximum, or until you
reach last saved file, or until you reach the amount set. I have mine set
to fifteen I suspect the maximum varies but on my system it is twenty.

Remember, for each undo, you are left with markers set as at execution of
the function you are reversing.

Hope these are of help, currently, I am still using V5.70 on a Windows7
desktop upstairs and a WindowsXp Home laptop downstairs but I have been
using GoldWave for the last eight years, ever since V5.12.

Re: Goldwave question

2015-09-20 Thread Colin Howard
John,

In which case, you can select the piece you want to send out by placing
start and end markers, then go into the file menu and save selection as the
name appropriate, then move on to the next and so on.

Re: looking for online 60's rock programs, preferably from the British perspective

2015-09-06 Thread Colin Howard
Dean,

I have a load of programs from BBC Radio services, I can point you to a
program broadcast Saturday, on the BBC local services in the East of
england, called Burney keith's rock'n'roll, where he mainly plays music from
the fifties and sixties. However, I suspect a good deal of rock music from
this era is going to be American as we did not really have a great many
exponents in those days until the mid sixties, of course, with the advent of
the Mersey Sound Etc.

Have a look at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/norfolk/programmes/schedules/2015/08/08, /15, /22, /29
and /09/05 but you'll have to get the first one soon as it will disappear by
20:00 UK time tomorrow.

also, take a look, over the same period at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/programmes/schedules/2015/mm/dd this clashes with
Burney Keith as both programs are on from 18:00-20:00 and, maybe, for modern
material, take a look at the program after, called BBC Introducing, not 60's
and 50's but some very good modern material there.

So far as I am aware, no podcasts available for any of these, I suggest use
totalRecorder or some equivalent, then you can skip unwanted items.

Re: a few more goldwave questions relating to JAWS

2015-08-10 Thread Colin Howard
Ray,

Firstly, what system and version of GW are you using?

I have WindowsXP home on my downstairs laptop, Jaws V10 and GW V5.70 with
associated Jim Grimsbey scripts. My speech is routed through an external
synth but I do not get jaws babbble. My upstairs desktop machine is a
Windows7, JawsV14 and GW V5.70 system. My speech and other system sounds
are routed through an audiotech internal soundcard, all others through
can't remember what card. again, no Jaws babble.

I suspect it's something to do with verbosity settings and check the help
for the scripts, you can toggle such things as labels and progress messages.

I have never needed to use any kind of passthrough key, all movement
functions so far used work straight away, just ensure in the view menu
ScrolLock is checked keystroke for this is control with l.

I always have my recording control window hidden.

I sincerely hope you have enabled the scrub feature, found on the play
control following the wind settings. By default it is 0.000 mine is set to
0.150 this gives me adequate feedback when moving arrow or marker or cursor
keys and certainly speeds editting by a good 90%.

Any suggestions please? - a work-around.

2015-06-15 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

By no means perfect, but via the good offices of a reply, have found a
work-around.

One person replied advising they, on their two W7 machines, had the same
problem in on one, the site showed with listen links as mine, the othere, it
didn't as mine. They were using I.E 11 I believe, on one Jaws 15 and the
other Jaws 16 but I do not know which Jaws related to listen and non-listen
links.

There was a reply suggesting in the media-player part of the site, is a
play button which, if I used, would start the program. On further
investigation I found this not to be exactly true, in the media area, no
play button but open embedded document when I entered, gave me open
parent document and the program name which, when I highlighted and pressed
enter, loaded and started playing.

When entering on the open parent document button, I returned to the
program page, the audio continued to play, I cannot find the controls to
jump through the program yes, there is pause which when entered upon reverts
to play when entered upon reverts to pause, yes, I can see the program time
counting up and the total length, but no volume or jump controls.

Greetings,

Note: this will only make any sense to those who listen to programs from the
BBC in the UK.

Please read this to the end unless you can suggest why this has happened, I
am trying to access listen again on the upstairs machine, I go to a program
and can't find anything which looks like a listen link, on the downstairs
system, you will note availability of programs is shown hence entering on
this takes me to an area from whence I may listen again.

I have not knowingly made any changes before this came into action, but on
my W7 machine, all of a sudden on one internal disk, I noticed my files and
folders reversed values, the files, highest value first, then my folders,
highest version first appeared, all other disks remained correct. This
proved to be corrected when viewing the properties of a file I discovered
the sort showed descending instead of ascending, correcting this set the
order back.

However, about the same time, my upstairs views via FF showed the following

Greetings,

GoldWave works well for people without or with poor sight, I'm totally blind
and have been using it for must now be about eight years.

If you are using Jaws, there are some good scripts available, at present I
am still using V5.70, the last version to work with windowsXP the next
version is 64-bit and cannot work with XP.

Some people say scripts or setfiles are not required, well, the program can
be used, if carefully set up, out of the box but the scripts (for Jaws) make
it easier.

Greetings,

Dane, as I asked you before, please, when you send an audio link to the
group, to stop people receiving errors or, in my case, playing the file when
I actually want to download, please put after the .mp3 the string:

?dl=1

i.e question mark, letters d, l, equals sign and the digit 1.

It would save all of us unnecessary problems and, afterall, it is only five
characters, appended to the link. If the file is other than .mp3 .occ .flak
.wav . . . then it ought not to cause any problems.

Thanks.

2015-03-31 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

Dane Trethowan wrote:

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Go To feature only allowed the
entry of a value in time.
Yes, the control g, about which the initial post was sent, is for moving to
a specific time whilst playing the file. If a person needs to process part
of a file and knows roughly where the area lies, they can use the set
markers function, using the shift e command, enter the times replacing
current marker values, press enter and they should play the area in which
they are interested. If, then, they set the zoom to show a small part, say,
ten seconds, moving the markers assuming they have the scrub function
active, will enable them then to place the markers exactly where they
desire.

In case unknown, the scrub function is located in the play dialogue, being
the edit box which follows the wind / rewind settings. By default, this,
certainly up to v5.70, is set to 0.000 by default, mine is set now to 0.150,
therefore whenever I move an arrow or marker, I hear .15's worth of sound
and find it invaluable speeding up edits no end.

Remember, arrow and marker movements are dictated by the setting of zoom,
hence for a zoom of 1 second (shift with 2) the marker / arrow movement will
be .01 of a second, i.e 0.010. For 10 seconds, i.e shift with 3, it will be
0.100, for one minute, i.e shift with 4, it will be 0.600 Etc.

TR for line-in recordings, preferring GW for such tasks, I use TR mainly for
off-the-net material.

I am using V8.3 Pro on both my WindowsXP Home laptop and my windows7 64-bit
premium desktop system and, having system sounds through the audiotech
internal sound system, TR and all other sound recording software, uses the
second sound card, can't remember it's details.

Eventually, I am likely to update the W7 system not sure is the latest
version 8.5?

Re: GoldWave's Go To Feature

2015-03-30 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

Make sure the auto scroll lock is checked, this should be found in the view
menu, note I am still using V5.70, if you are using V6.anything, I am
unaware of any possible changes.

Whilst playing the file, do control with g, in an edit box, it shows
current cursor position at the time you issued the command, overwrite (or
modify) and press enter, cursor jumps to the place given or if outside the
file, gives an error and invites you to correct and re-enter.

Re: Editing Mouth Noise and Braille Display Clicks

2015-03-10 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

Danny, I do not find the GoldWave functions either too aggressive or weak,
true, I don't have braille display clicks but mouth noises? yes.

I can remove mouth noises from infront of a word by setting the zoom ratio
ad 0.002300 and I assume you have the scrub feature enabled? I can't see
how you can edit GW files if not.

In case you are unaware of this, go into play properties with f11, tab past
the wind and rewind settings to an edit box which, by default, is set to
0.000 this is the scrub function. I use 0.150 as my value and this is
adequate for all editting I have so far performed.

This enables you to hear 0.15ths of any sound when moving arrows or
markers.

Re: Editing Mouth Noise and Braille Display Clicks

2015-03-10 Thread Colin Howard
Danny,

I am using V5.70 on my WxpHome system and still on my W7 for the moment,
intend to upgrade to V6.1 when I am convinced scripts Etc. are safe.

I am surprised you've not used the scrub facility, I find it invaluable.

Zoom ratio is the amount of sound on the screen, I usually have mine set to
show one second but using the shortcut keys, shift 1 through shift 6, this
can be brought to under a second, one second, ten seconds, one minute, ten
minutes and one hour. Of course, if the file is shorter than any of these,
(say five minutes) shift 5 and shift 6 will take it to five minutes.

Look for more info at the view menu.

It is possible to zoom in samples rather than time, it is even possible to
look at individual samples so editting can be made very very precise.

I am sending you a SendSpace link for a magazine I produce, using listener
input mostly from cassette, this tends to be somewhat variable. Currently,
it goes out on cassette and memory stick, those who take the stick receive

2015-01-16 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

I assume you are Windows7, or XP? I cannot help otherwise.

Your USB device will be known to your system as an external (probably
removable) disk drive.

To obtain a file from this device, do control with o, then tab round to the
appropriate selection and select the device, then tab round to list view and
highlight the file you need to open press enter and if GW supports the
format, it should open, if not, you ought to be invited to find/load the
appropriate converter.

Re: digitizing cassette tapes question

2014-10-07 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

Presumably your casssette machine has a phono output known as line out, if
it is fixed level, no problems, if it changes when you alter the volume, set
this about halfway.

Plug the (presumably 3.5MM) stereo plug into the line in of your sound
catrcard.

Set your sound card to line in.

You now need some kind of program for receiving the audio, say,
totalRecorder or GoldWave.

Open a file of the acceptable parameters, i.e suggest .wav PCM 44,100hertz
16-bit unsigned stereo or flak, sorry don't know more about flak, because if
you need to edit the file, not a good idea to use any form of compression
until happy with the results.

Start recording then start cassette, let it rip, turn cassette over don't
stop recording, let it rip.

At end of cassette, stop recording, save initial file, then save a copy on
which you are going to work.

Sort out file by editting joins, Etc. then save as is, or using whatever
compression suits your needs.

Job completed.

remembere delete any work files you may have created such as the original
recording.

Hope these pointers are helpful.

Re: A Request

2014-06-07 Thread Colin Howard
Dane,

No, they are not taking it off air in 2016, 2020 at the very very earliest.

Do you want a long wave scan or just samples of stations?

I am quite happy to do a scann for you, waiting on each station for a few
minutes, but please be aware, I am located only three miles from the local
transmitter which carries A.M services and we get some imaging at the hf end
of long wave.

As for sets being sold with long wave, I am not aware of any lack, certainly
down here in Hampshire.

Radio 4 is on 198kHz and RTE1 (or is it 2)? is on 252kHz. R4 is reasonable
but again, suffers problems due to the local A.M transmitter, primarily
because we have Talk Sport on 1107kHz which generates a hetrodyne on 198kHz,
I have not yet found a radio which totally nulls this, if you care to work
it out, 1107 minus 198 = more or less double the i.f of many sets, i.e 909,
most sets have an i.f of 465, 455 is half 909, rather close to the i.f of
465, which most sets tend to use, least those which have a.m on the lf and
mf bands.

RTE on 252 here, is not very strong, but then being on the south coast, the
signal not really being very strong from the transmitter, it not really a
surprise.

Re: A Request

2014-06-07 Thread Colin Howard
Dane,

I should have advised, if I do a scan, it will initially be recorded on
cassette because I will use a cassette-radio, it has a built-in mic and
though the radio is reasonably sensative, the mic is appauling, I will need
to use it to identify what I am scanning Etc.

This afternoon, I performed a full scann of long, medium and fm from the hf

16,000Hertz converted to .mp3 stereo as on the fm band we have some stereo.

I won't get round to doing this probably until Monday but may manage before.

I plan to send the link to this group.

In goldwave, go to Effects, Filter, Equalizer. From the presets, select
Inverse RIAA EQ curve. The effect was to remove too much base and boost the
treble too much, so I modified the numbers a bit. I'll send you my result.

Re: fading out

Greetings,

Place cursor at start point of required fade then press left square bracket,
ensure finish marker is at the point at which you want fade to end, probably
in this case end of track, press right bracket.

Now go into effects menu with alt-c then u for volume, then cursor down to
the item, choose the kind of fade you want, i.e logrhythmic or whatever,
enter, job complete.

Play sound and if happy, fine else ctrl-z and try again with different
settings.

The Fareham area of Southern England has been Colin

Re: goldwave problem

2013-11-06 Thread Colin Howard
greetings,

I am using GW V5.70 on a windowsXP Home system, my only screen-access is
Jaws and an ancient version being V10 on this Kompak laptop.

I have a file open in GW and pressing the space bar starts where I am, not
at the beginning.

I prefer this, I have the three play controls set as follows:

F2 (play1) = all
F3 (play2) = selection
F4 (play3) = view

depending on which play I last used, determines how much is played when the
space bar is pressed, in effect, this like the j k l winding function
mirrors the function key winding.

I am fully aware of cue points and fairly often use them as you for creating
cd tracks.

I am aware there is now a new function in the cue system about which, as I
write, I know little but it is mentioned in the What's new notes which
came with V5.70.

I find the play settings given above are exactly what I most need and rarely
find a need to alter them.

If you would like, I can, off-list of course, send you my settings and
keyboard files, maybe these will cure your problems.

Be aware I have made modifications to the keyboard file, in the area of
recording keys.

Greetings,

Check in the view menu autoscrollock is checked, this may be your problem if
unchecked, as this stops arrow movement.

Greetings,

Autoscrollock should be **checked** if unchecked, stops arrow movements.

I do not understand the problem with cue-points, please explain.

Re: goldwave 7.0

2013-10-29 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

As a result of your post because I am using XP Home on a laptop, I installed
V5.70 and it played a file no problems. Previously, I installed on a
desktop and again, no problem playing an existing file.

I have changed no settings.

GoldWave Version 5.70 is now available.

2013-10-26 Thread Colin Howard
Greetings,

It seems, judging by what it indicates on the GoldWave site, this program
will work in a WindowsXP environment, I had been led to believe V5.69 would
be the last one to support WindowsXP systems.

Here is the What's New file explaining changes for V5.70 and V5.69.

  support older VST plug-ins.
Replaced transparent playback cursor with solid line for
  faster drawing.
Changed File Merger to use file Title information in cue points
  if present.
Fixed bugs: multichannel files, batch processing resampling,
level activated exception, silence reduction end.

v5.69
-
Recompiled using Embarcadero C++ Builder XE4.
Created certificate signed install program.
Changed MPEG-4 AAC attributes name to MP4 (MPEG4 AAC).
Added properties to Status visual to change elapsed time format.
Changed fonts in visuals to Arial.
