Working with an m4a File with Goldwave

2016-10-29 Thread Dan Kerstetter
I'm not sure if this is off topic or not; so my apology if it is.\

I'm trying to work with a m4a file and can't save it. I receive the
following error message when trying to do so:

Error

[Main Instruction]

No encoder or decoder is available for the audio format or an error occurred
during conversion.

How can I find the proper encoder and decoder to work with this particular
file?

Thanks in advance.

Dan

You might try looking at some of the Kenwood models. My brother just got one

Surprised at just how much attention or lack there of, that this individual
question did not receive any of.

I would go to Amazon and just take a look at the various models searching
specifically for 2.1 models seeing that this is what you are looking for.
None of us know what you are attracted to so on and so forth. A budget of
$200 isn't bad, but I am sure that you'd prefer keeping that lower if
possible. You aren't going to get anything audiophile for 2 bills but still,
it's best that you take the time and go online looking to see what is not
only available, but again, what attracts you between what's actually
available.

RE: question about Internet Broadcasting

2015-09-03 Thread Dan Kerstetter
I've gotten it installed. Unfortunately, I had to make do with an older
version of the SQR crossfader plugin. I have it working minimally, but, for
some reason, I'm unable to configure any of winamp's plugins. I'll need to do
some more work.

RE: question about Internet Broadcasting

2015-09-02 Thread Dan Kerstetter
I used winamp with that particular plugin for years; however, yesterday when I
tried getting winamp to install on my Windows 10 machine, it wouldn't do so.
Also, after having been on the winamp site, I discovered there are no plugins
there anymore. I'm guessing this is because the program is no longer being
developed.

Hi all

I recently upgraded to Win7 on a machine with 8 gig ram and so on. I then
bought a Creative Audigy sound card, since my old Soundblaster Live had it's
chips.

For some obscure reason though, this audigy soundcard stutters like mad
sometimes, without warning, and apparently without reason.
This happens regardless of any audio I run through it, music, jaws, ...
everything.
I updated the drivers for the stupid piece of crap, I uninstalled it,
reinstalled it, tried to free up some resources, but to no avail.

I think I'm at the point where I wanna smash the thing into a zillion pieces.

Is there any solution for this?

I'd appreciate any help in this regard.

Thanks in advance.

Getting Audigy ZS 2 soundcard to work

2014-11-08 Thread Dan Kerstetter
Is it possible to use an SB Audigy ZS 2 soundcard in a windows 7 64 bit
machine?

When I had the card installed and booted up the computer, I got an error
message saying that windows was unable to install device drivers for the
device. I then went to the creative support site and downloaded a driver
package which I installed; however, when I rebooted after the installation I
received a message saying that the drivers could not be loaded for the
soundcard.

According to the Creative web site the software I downloaded was supposed to
work on Windows 7 64 bit.

I've since uninstalled the drivers and now when I try reinstalling them I

Hi!

Someone on list asked about free CD Ripping Software a little while ago, I
answered with iTunes though of course I didn’t realise at the time that there’s
probably an even better answer built right into Windows itself which I assume
the questioner was using.

The answer of course is Windows Media Player which - when I last tried it - was
very accessible indeed.

I didn’t follow the conversation at the time so perhaps someone else on list
suggested Windows Media Player anyway.

Inexpensive Microphone for chatting

As for exact audio copy, I like it but have never been able to configure the

Thanks for the input.

Stupid question I'm sure but have you tried iTunes?

If you're looking for the best CD Ripper on the Planet then you can always
try Exact Audio Copy, haven't used it in a while though as I usually use my
Mac for that sort of thing these days or I use Easy CD Audio Converter I
think its called these days, I bought a lifetime licence for the product but
I think there's a free version of that available? Someone might correct me
on that please.

Could you say why you're not happy with CDEx? I don't think that there's a
problem that couldn't be solved with CDEx. I'd recommend you use the 1.70
Beta 2 though because that doesn't have any flaws compared to the later
versions of CDEx.

I think perhaps I made this harder than it should be.

If you type set default into the start menu search box the first result you
should see is set default programs. Press enter and tab once to see a list
of your programs. Arrow down to winamp and tab to the choose defaults
button and press enter. Then you can tab until you see a list of file
types. Arrow down until you find the CD and check the box. Then tab to the
save button.

I hope this clarifies things a little. My apologies for the previously

Hi!

This eMail is forwarded from another list I'm on, this list is an Australian
eMail list so I don't know about pricing for these Bose speakers in the U.S.
so people may wish to check.

If you're looking for a set of computer speakers at a good value for money
price then the set described here may be well worth the look given the price
they're being sold for right now.

 Hi all.

Just wanted to let folks know about these awesome bose companion 2
 series
iii speakers i've just bought.

There 149 dollars at the bose store or the apple store or any other
 good
re-tailer.

Basically these are computer desktop speakers consisting of 2 small
desktop speakers no sub and very easy to connect up.

There are only 4 cables and a single dial on the front for turning the
speakers on and for volume.

There is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack just below the on off volume
control and on the back you have inputs for the left speaker, a c power, the
input for connecting a 3.5 mm cable then the other end of that cable
connects to a pc mac iphone whatever you wish to power.

The final input is an aux input for connecting to another device.

Keep in mind these are not hi-fi speakers but if your looking for
something just for a pc or mac or a laptop, you can't go past the bose
companion 2 series 3 speakres.

These are the newest desktop speakers in the Bose lineup.

Grab a pair today and enjoy crisp clear sound never heard from a pair
 of
speakers this small.

I bought a set of klipsch speakers for $149 U.S. It's a 2.1 system and, for
the price, the range is great. I have, however, found out since I've

Just my two cents worth.

I'm a little confused here. Are you saying there are full-range speakers of
the same size and price? How does one define full-range? In my experience,
it is very rare that one can simply choose between full-range and boombox
sound with size and price remaining constant. I have not heard the Bose
Companion series so I don't know if I would like them or not, but there are
times when I have found a good boombox sound to be acceptable when the
speakers fit into a tight space or when they were being used by people who
might not be careful with them. I also still use a set of thirty-year-old
Freid floor standing speakers which were considered full range and enjoy
them as well.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

 Hi!

This eMail is forwarded from another list I'm on, this list is an
Australian eMail list so I don't know about pricing for these Bose
speakers in the U.S.
so people may wish to check.

If you're looking for a set of computer speakers at a good value for
money price then the set described here may be well worth the look
given the price they're being sold for right now.

There are only 4 cables and a single dial on the front for turning
 the
 speakers on and for volume.

There is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack just below the on off volume
control and on the back you have inputs for the left speaker, a c
power, the input for connecting a 3.5 mm cable then the other end of
that cable connects to a pc mac iphone whatever you wish to power.

The final input is an aux input for connecting to another device.

Keep in mind these are not hi-fi speakers but if your looking for
something just for a pc or mac or a laptop, you can't go past the
bose companion 2 series 3 speakres.

These are the newest desktop speakers in the Bose lineup.

Grab a pair today and enjoy crisp clear sound never heard from a
 pair of
 speakers this small.

Hi Dan,

At Elizabeth Pierce, Olmsted center for Sight, Buffalo, NY, telephone
opperators use a headset that does everything you want. There is a separate
volume control for each side. But I know that they cost something like
$225.00 a pair. When I go into work I will ask about then and where one
might get a pair. The thing is is I am off until Saturday. Let me know in
the meantime if he finds something that works for him.

Hi list, Merry Christmas.

Would anyone here know about the accessibility of the software from NCH?
Specifically, I want to look into their Express Burn CD burning software, if
it works on Windows 7 64 bit machines. If anyone's had experience using
this, would you please give me some pointers for getting the best use from
it? Windows Media Player seems a bit tricky for setting up a playlist to
burn to a CD; I use System Access for a screen reader but something's wrong
with the Media Library in that it won't let me burn something to CD; Support
can't help much in this case.  I have tried Digital Jukebox from Marvelsoft;
in that case yes, I can make the playlist and then go to the Project menu
and tell the program to burn the tracks to CD; a blank CD is in the drive,
but when I hit the okay button after I'm given the total playing time for
the tracks to burn the CD, the speech just goes silent and a message pops up
that the dj.exe has stopped working and should be closed; I haven't heard
back from their tech support yet, maybe tomorrow after Christmas.
Meanwhile I'm wanting to find out more about Express Burn by NCH Software to
find out if it's accessible with screen readers before I plunk down money
for it. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me on this; also if
anyone has experience with Digital Jukebox by Marvelsoft I'm interested in
learning about experiences people had using it. thanks again and Merry
Christmas.

RE: Speaker Question/Problem

2013-11-05 Thread dan Kerstetter
I'd never heard of them until recently. I really like them. Now if I could
just get rid of this headphone problem. The manual suggests using line out
instead of the standard speaker plug. That doesn't work well on an audigy
2ZS sound card. The manual also instructs me to raise the wave volume to 70
percent. With this particular sound card, however, it's a bit much. I've
also adjusted the advance controls a bit. I'm using them in a small area
and can turn the sub down and it's still very responsive.

Okay, well I'm glad you got a wonderful! pair of computer speakers, its very
hard indeed to get a Wonderful! pair of computer speakers these days

As far as bleeding of sound through the speakers themselves? I have heard of
this actually happening, does the manual specifically say that plugging in
the headphones will mute the sound? Believe it or not some models don't mute
the sound entirely to the speakers, the sound output to the speakers is just
reduced.

Now another question, does this speaker system actually have a line out
connection as well as your standard line in? I'm wondering if perhaps you
have the computer connected to a line out rather than a line in, this can
cause some funny things to happen.

And finally, If the plugging in of headphones is supposed to mute the
speakers and this isn't happening then it would appear to me at least that
you have a fault with your speakers.

Sound

The subject line says it all when it comes to this pair of speakers.

The Altec Lansing Expressionists speakers have little in the way of features
but who really cares about that when cost is low and sound - for a pair of
desktop speakers - is worth recommending on its own.

The speaker system has only 3 buttons, power, volume up and volume down
which are situated on the rear of the right speaker. the volume up and down
buttons are identifiable by the plus and minus signs, the power button is a
button with a detent, not that much different to the sort of button you'd
find at the bottom of an iPhone screen.

The Expressionists speakers are designed in such a way that they cannot be
easily knocked over, this is achieved by the speakers having cylinders at
the rear which touch the desk and rubber feet at the front, I also suspect
that the cylinders give an opportunity to the speakers to output more bass.

Each speaker contains 1 3 inch driver and sound is surprisingly good
throughout the spectrum.

The system has 2 3.5MM jack input sockets which are mixed together so 2
devices can be run simultaneously if required.

Volume is louder than I expected and the system does indeed deliver a good
punchy sound, nothing tinny about these speakers whatever.

If you want high performance for music or games then this speaker set is
obviously not the 1 to pick but if you have a very limited budget and want a
set of speakers with all round good performance without too much compromise
then this system at $50.00 is very hard to pass up, I'll be using this
speaker system until my Harman Kardon sound sticks arrive in a few weeks and
I have no trouble with that.

I use audiostocker but I don't think u can get it anymore.
Most people are now using the gain features of there media player to
normalize all mp3's individually, by album, folder, and/or playlist.
than it's set no matter what media player you use. I keep telling myself I'm
going to do that but I haven't yet, I take the lazy way out and use

Hi Dan, I have not done this, but here are the steps given by Anna Dresner:
Good luck! Vicky
1. Connect the iPod. When iTunes opens, if you're asked if you want to sync
with your iTunes library, say no, and enable disk use.

2. Use Windows Explorer to copy the iPod Control folder into the folder you
use for your iTunes library. This will copy all the music, but the file
names will be seemingly random combinations of letters and numbers.

3. Go to PReferences in iTunes by pressing Control-Comma. Switch to the
Advanced tab in this multi-page dialog box, and check the Keep iTunes media
folder Organized check box.

4. Go to the File menu in iTunes, choose ADd Folder to LIbrary, and select
the iPod control folder. All the music will be added to your iTunes library,

and iTunes will name all the files based on their tags, so if the title,
artist and album tags are correct, the music will be named and organized
correctly.

RE: Looking for Crossfading Plugin

2011-10-08 Thread dan Kerstetter
I downloaded the one from the winamp site but every time I try to make
changes in its configuration, it crashes winamp and the Watson debugger..
The plugin version is 1.75.

If yours is different, I would appreciate a copy. My email address is:

Thanks.

Hi Dan,

You say Where can I get a good crossfading plugin such as SQR Soft advance
Crossfading? Well if that one is good and you are not
looking for something to work with a different player than Winamp, why not
use it rather than looking for something else? I realise
the home page at http://sqrsoft.com.ar appears to have gone, but you can
still get it from various places including the Winamp site
at http://www.winamp.com/plugin/sqrsoft-advanced-crossfading-output/32368

If the one on the Winamp site is not the most recent, which I think is
version 1.7.6.1180, and you can't find it elsewhere, let me
know and I will email it to you.

Thanks,
Barry Chapman

RE: iTunes Frustration

2011-09-22 Thread dan Kerstetter
If you can find a program called Revo Uninstaller, it should work. I had a
similar problem with iTunes except that I couldn't even install a new
version

Revo Uninstaller has an advanced mode and it's very accessible. You may
even have to run it more than once, but it did the trick for my iTunes
reinstall.

times I completely remove, de-install, expunge iTunes, Quicktime,
Apple software update, Bonjour, Apple mobile device support and Apple
application support from my machine, cleaning out stuff in the
Documents and settings folder having anything whatsoever to do with
Apple or iTunes, ensuring the Program Files folder and Common Files

iTunes and rebooting just to make sure everything gets installed, I
plug in my iPhone, get the doo-ding USB device connected noise, and
sometimes I get the new hardware found message with the words Apple
mobile device and sometimes with the word iPhone after. Upon
opening iTunes, the iPhone does not appear. In fact, nothing in
Devices appears. I look in Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device
Manager / USB Devices and do not find anything installed there that
even remotely looks like a USB driver of any kind. There's a system
environment variable called devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices which, when
set to 1, will show you anything untoward in Device Manager. I have
this set thus, and I never see anything in USB devices. I can plug
other USB devices, such as disks, audio or MIDI interfaces, etc., SD
cards in readers, even the JAWS dongle, into any of the USB ports on
the machine, and they all work like they're supposed to. The only
thing I'm having trouble with is this darn iTunes device driver. I'd

OK, I found, installed, and ran Revo Uninstaller. Very nice! Might
even buy the pro version. I'm sorry to report, however, that it did no
good whatsoever. It did no bad, either--i.e., it didn't break
anything--but when I picked the machine cleaner than a Sunday-dinner
chicken and installed iTunes once again, the very same things
happened. I plugged the iPhone into the USB port, and yes, I tried
various USB ports, I have six--four on the back, two on the front of
the box--got the dong-ding bells, got the message Found new hardware,
Apple Mobile Device USB, or maybe it was Apple Mobile USB Device,
either way, got that, followed by a little pop a few seconds later.
The device shows up in Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device
Manager / USB Controllers when iTunes is open and the device is
connected, but not otherwise. I still cannot find it in the tree view,
and iTunes didn't automatically launch its first-time startup wizard
either. There's somethin' seriously wrong here, I just wish I knew how
to figure it out, and ultimately, what it is.

To add a station, I use the menus. You can hit the alt key which opens the
menu bar, arrow over to favorites and down arrow to open the menu. Within
the menu, there's an add to favorites choice.

Hope this helps and I hope I'm not repeating what someone else has already

Dan the skype talking window normally is hidden. Did you tell skype to
allow it? You'll have to do that before it comes on. What it should do
normally when you hit the shortcut is to call skype. Let me know if what I
suggested resolves the issue. If not perhaps we can get together on the

iTunes Installation Problem

2010-06-24 Thread Dan Kerstetter
A few weeks ago, Apple's automatic updater ran and I was told there was a
new version of iTunes. I pressed the install button. The install could not
complete, however, and I received an error message about bonjour. I tried
uninstalling the bonjour and installing something new from Apple called
bonjour printer services. This did not solve the problem.

Is there a way I can uninstall everything and let iTunes start installing
itself from scratch? I've tried a system restore to a point when I know it
was working properly. This did not solve the problem.

I would appreciate any feedback on this. I thought about using a sledge
hammer on my computer, but I didn't feel like cleaning up the mess. LOL
Seriously I'll take any help I can get.

First make sure they are in the proper format including bit rate. I assume
you know how to navigate the music folder with the dm-520. I find it
helpful to turn play all files on in case there are sub folders.

When you go to the music folder and press the right arrow one or more times
you should hear one of them play if preview is on and if the files are

Play menu, playback mode setting, playback area setting, all files playback.

I transfer with WMP10. But sometimes just copy and paste using Windows if
I'm sure the file is in a compatible format.

Something I find difficult is if I set WMP to create folder hierarchy on
device, (the default action), it is harder to find the music I want to play.

You use the up or down arrows to move to a folder which will be the artist,
then the right arrow to move the album list. Then right arrow again to get
to the list of files in that folder.

The intro playback setting is under display and sound menu.

First make sure they are in the proper format including bit rate. I
 assume
you know how to navigate the music folder with the dm-520. I find it
helpful to turn play all files on in case there are sub folders.

When you go to the music folder and press the right arrow one or more
 times
you should hear one of them play if preview is on and if the files are
 compatible. .

Either I am incredibly dense or I have a problem somewhere.

Using windows explorer I cut and pasted files into the music folder of
 the
recorder. They show up on the computer when I look at the recorder as a
disk drive; but cannot access them on the recorder in the music folder.
I've tried copying both folders and individual files to the recorder's
 music
 folder.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions.

You can access the recorder as a flash drive via usb, and if you copy non
DRM files across, everything should be fine. Formats it supports are MP3,
WMA (non drm and perhaps not the latest version).

I haven't tried to access DRM protected WMA files on the unit, which would
perhaps involve the software provided with the machine, which isn't that
accessible, from what I recall folks saying.

Hope this helps a little

You can manually split the file into tracks, going track by track. Press
B at the beginning of the track and then press N at the end of the track.
Press CTRL+E to save this selected track to a new file. You do this for
each track and you will have a separate MP3 file for each track.
