Accessible analog / firewire mixing board search

2016-11-04 Thread John Chilelli
Hi all,

I am in the market for a new analog mixing board with firewire. I have a
absolutely wonderful Onyx 820I now, but I am in need of something just a
little bigger. If memorary serves, I think the next size up from the 820I is
missing something important that was offered on the 820I. I am even willing
to entertain other manufactures as long as the bord is an accessible analog
board with firewire.

Any and all helpful suggestions aare of corse greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JC

RE: MAGIX Samplitude Music 2016 - Recording Software☑

2016-07-09 Thread John Chilelli
Okay. Here's the latest:

I remembered talking with Jim Noseworthy just briefly on the subject. Now I
could fbe wrong about this...
"You know I was wrong once, - but then I was told that I was wrong about that."
I believe he told me that the new jaws scripts were written for the Samplitude
Pro x2 program.

However as for where one goes to find the scripts, it is still a mystery to me
even after googling for them.

Any other ideas on where I can look?

Hi John.

Around November last year I took the plunge and bought a portable didgital
recorder of extraduanery quality, called the Zoom H6. In the UK this cost
me about £370.00.

I didn't tell my wife just how expensive it was, haha.

As far as accessability is concerned, it's not too good but I have listened
to all Mr. Neal Ewars, a well known blind sound engineer from the US,
podcasts on the machine.

It is aparently the best such device anywhere on the planet and yes, a blind
person can easily record sound at 24 bit sterio.

I'm currently recording a local band in Kilcreggan, who meet every Wednesday
night.

I use Goldwave to edit my recording and Nero to burn onto disk.

I must tell you that the quality of the recordings I make blow the minds of
my friends. They think that I must really know my stuff as the recordings
are as good as you'll get in a recording studio. I'm loving this attention!

I'm thinking of helping my small community magazine to make their monthly
paper accessable to blind people, by recording it and posting it on memory
sticks to people in my community who cannot read print.

So, for a portable recording studio, which you can hold in your hand that
gives you the best sound quality possible in the world, please consider the
Zoom H6.

All the very best.
Andy from a wet and dreary Scotland.

LCD or LED reader?

2016-01-18 Thread John Chilelli
Hi all,

Does anyone know of a scanner that will read these kinds of digital readouts
so I can review them with a screen reader?

I have been given an opportunity to work for a company that repairs and
creates these digital readouts for various applications such as GPS, clocks,
computer, phone systems, micro devices like digital recorders, cell phones
and musical keyboards and many other similar applications.

My entry job would be to establish open communications with potential
industrial markets which may have an interest in what we can do for them. I
guess you can say a glorified sales rep. However what I would like to do is
to get into product testing and development. This is where I could use some
sort of scanner with which I would be able to read both LED and LCD screens.

Thanks for reading,

John

Hi all,

I want to thank everyone who has offered some input on my search for a good
flatbed scanner.

Unless someone has a serious concern about it, I think I am setteling on the
Opticbook 3800 for my scanning needs. It's a little pricey, but it's a
bookedge scanner and I will primarily be scanning a lot of books here.

In case I didn't mention it, I will be using OpenBook 9 on a 32 bit Win 7
machine for my OCR results.

The reason I said I needed a good and accurate flatbed scanner, is because I
don't have anyone at this time to proofread my scanned books. So image
quality is of corse very important.

Thanks again all, and please pipe up if you feel I'm making a big mistake on

Hi Dane and all,

Yah I should have mentioned what I need it for.

Well I need it for a little of everything! Seriously, I need it for

So I guess the Senhizer is out because it is not a full headset with a

.asx. Also, .ram is for RealPlayer and .qtl is for the QuickTime player. It
should be noted however, that if you select all file
types in Winamp, it will take over .asx.

The format for file names in a .asx file is the same as for a .m3u file.

I need to send .mp3 files out as .zip archives, which when extracted and
played in Media Player, play track-by-track-by-track enabling a person to
skip but also the files must play in WinAmp, so I need include a .m3u file.

also, would I simply put the files into the playlist file like for WinAmp,

Hi Steve,

Thanks so much for the ideas you list here. You have given me a lot to

Thanks verry much!

John

On 9/11/2013 10:07 AM, Steve Jacobson wrote:

John,

Here are a couple of thoughts on this, although Gary may have some better ideas.

First, have you been able to establish whether you hear the high-pitched sound
when recordings are being monitored? I have seen
it happen where sounds like this are introduced particularly when playing back
a recording made at a lower sampling rate.

If you can hear the sound while monitoring the mixer through your computer,
then check each of your inputs by turning all of the
gains down to see if this problem is being introduced by a particular input.
Extraneous noise can easily be introduced by a
microphone input if nothing is plugged in but the gain is up for example. If
you find that a particular input is causing the
problem, then determine if it remains if you disconnect the cable to that
input. Knowing which device is causing the problem
might help us come up with ideas.

Make sure your mixer isn't sitting on top of or just underneath another device
such as a modem or router.

If you find that you still hear the pitch even with all inputs durned down, the
problem is harder to find. However, it is still
worth unplugging all cables to the mixer except the USB cable that connects it
to the computer to see if the sound disappears. If
it does not, you should look at options that affect the USB interface to your
computer. Even trying another USB input or another
USB cable is worth while. If disconnecting all cables even with the gain
turned down removes the problem, reconnect each cable
until you figure out which cable starts the problem. If a digital device is
connected to that cable, it is possible that the
analog output of the digital device doesn't have remaining digital signals
filtered out very well. Another possibility is that
you have what is called a ground loop. Ground loops most often cause AC hum to
be added, but they can cause digitial interference
as well. They result when a device has two separate ground paths going to a
computer. For example, if you had an audio player
connected to computer speakers that are also connected to your computer, a
ground path will exist from that device to your
speakers and then to your computer. If that device is also connected to the
mixer, a second ground path exists from the device,
through the mixer, and then to your computer through the USB cable. This isn't
an exact science, though, and it can depend some
on how various devices are designed, and whether your mixer accepts digital
inputs as well as analog inputs and on and on. But
you have to narrow down the cause before you can attack it.

Another thing to check is whether you have other devices that might emit
interference that is getting into your system. For
example, older computer monitors or televisions can emit interference. If such
a device is too close to your equipment, this can
get into your system and result in audible interference when it mixes with
other digital signals.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Re: AC line filter question

2013-09-11 Thread John Chilelli
Yah. I to agree with Gary now that I understand what kind of hum AC
interferience can produce. I think it sounds like what I get from a
radio near a floresent light, right? And that's not what I am hearing here.

receiver. smile However, I agree that ground loops are usually the source
of AC hum and that it is not likely that it is the
source for this problem.

John,

Here are a couple of thoughts on this, although Gary may have some better
ideas.

First, have you been able to establish whether you hear the high-pitched
sound when recordings are being monitored? I have seen
it happen where sounds like this are introduced particularly when playing
back a recording made at a lower sampling rate.

If you can hear the sound while monitoring the mixer through your
computer, then check each of your inputs by turning all of the
gains down to see if this problem is being introduced by a particular
input. Extraneous noise can easily be introduced by a
microphone input if nothing is plugged in but the gain is up for example.
If you find that a particular input is causing the
problem, then determine if it remains if you disconnect the cable to that
input. Knowing which device is causing the problem
might help us come up with ideas.

Make sure your mixer isn't sitting on top of or just underneath another
device such as a modem or router.

If you find that you still hear the pitch even with all inputs durned
down, the problem is harder to find. However, it is still
worth unplugging all cables to the mixer except the USB cable that
connects it to the computer to see if the sound disappears. If
it does not, you should look at options that affect the USB interface to
your computer. Even trying another USB input or another
USB cable is worth while. If disconnecting all cables even with the gain
turned down removes the problem, reconnect each cable
until you figure out which cable starts the problem. If a digital device
is connected to that cable, it is possible that the
analog output of the digital device doesn't have remaining digital signals
filtered out very well. Another possibility is that
you have what is called a ground loop. Ground loops most often cause AC
hum to be added, but they can cause digitial interference
as well. They result when a device has two separate ground paths going to
a computer. For example, if you had an audio player
connected to computer speakers that are also connected to your computer, a
ground path will exist from that device to your
speakers and then to your computer. If that device is also connected to
the mixer, a second ground path exists from the device,
through the mixer, and then to your computer through the USB cable. This
isn't an exact science, though, and it can depend some
on how various devices are designed, and whether your mixer accepts
digital inputs as well as analog inputs and on and on. But
you have to narrow down the cause before you can attack it.

Another thing to check is whether you have other devices that might emit
interference that is getting into your system. For
example, older computer monitors or televisions can emit interference. If
such a device is too close to your equipment, this can
get into your system and result in audible interference when it mixes with
other digital signals.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

SAPI voices

2013-04-28 Thread John Chilelli

Hi all,

I am the guy who posted the OT message looking for a copy of WE 7.2 to
upgrade my copy of 7.11 which has so many problems that 7.2 fixed.
Anyway, prior to this latest quest to find WE 7.2, I was happily using
NVDA on a Windows 8 platform. This is because when I installed nvda on
my Win 8 platform, to my surprise, I found what I think was a sapi 4
voice that was so verry clear for me to understand. The voice I am
talkingt about sounded to me very much like VO on the Mac. Then, as I
had explained in a previous post, I found out that the additional sound
equipment I need to use isn't yet up to date on the Win 8 platform. And
now for my question:

1. Isit true that that voice came with Windows 8? And if so, is it
possible to copy that sapi 4 voice and bring it to Windows 7 for nvda to
use? I am having such a difficult time of it understanding E-Speak. I
need to be doing a lot of reading for work and for school so I need a
more natural sounding voice to work with. My lovely wife has copied all
of the Sapi voices she found on her Win 8 machine onto a cd for me, but
I don't know where or how to put them into Windows 7.

Any help is truly appreciated!

Blessings,

John

to be able to purchase a v8.2 copy, but at this time, my wife and I are

sighted. The Zen Stone with External Speaker is one such model of the Zen
Stone. The original Zen Stone is another. There's also the Zen Stone Plus,
which has a display. I don't have any personal experience with this model,
to know if a blind person can get used to navigating the different menus.
Also, if the model has an FM radio then it would be a model with a display.

Please tell me how I go about extracting the
rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip file to the root of the player's
drive. When I click on the filename on my desktop, it opens to a
Rockbox folder. When I click on that, it simply opens up a list of
files. What do I do with this list of files?

Thanks,

John

At 09:10 PM 4/13/2009, you wrote:
To my knowledge, the rockbox utility - rbutilrq - is not accessible

Since you use a Sansa E250, you need to download the following:
The rockbox firmware
http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.2/rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip
The bootloader:
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/sandisk-sansa/sansapatcher/win32/sansapatcher.exe
The voice file:
http://download.rockbox.org/release/3.2/sansae200-3.2-english.zip

After you have downloaded the above, do the following:
1. Make sure the hold switch is not on hold. Face the player so
that the headphone jack is pointing away from you. The scrol wheel
should be closest to you. Move the switch on the left of the
headphone jack to the left if it is not already there. Connect your
mp3 player to your PC.

2. make sure you can access the player. This is to ensure that the
player is in MSC mode. It usually is already in MSC mode. To make
sure, disconnect the player, have a sited person turn on the
player, go to Settings -- USB Mode, and press select on MSC.

3. Extract the rockbox-sansae200-3.2.zip file to the root of the
player's drive.

4. Run the bootloader, and follow the instructions. It will first
look for your player. Then you press I for install, followed by the
enter key. After a few seconds, it will finish installing. It will say

[INFO] Bootloader installed successfully.
Press ENTER to exit sansapatcher
Press enter.

5. Extract the sansae200-3.2-english.zip file to the root of your
player's directory.

6. Disconnect the player, and it should come up talking. Make sure
you have headphones connected!

Timothy

The recording screen is completely usable. It just takes a tiny
bit of memorization. I use it almost every week. It can record
both from the microphone and from the FM radio. The only thing
you cannot control with speech is the volume sliders on the
record screen. You can, however change the bitrate, format, an record source.

Hope that answers your question.

record through Total Recorder and am running Windows XP Home Edition. And
while we're on the subject of annoying questions, could someone tell me how
to stop that snazzy little touchpad from constantly making me lose focus?
I've slowed the mouse down (I think) but I just have to think and Jaws focus
goes to the desktop or My documents or whatever I might have open.
Extremely annoying and won't do at all when we try to do webradio!

Thanks again so much for all your help!

Peace,
Kathy

Choppy audio.

2009-03-09 Thread John Chilelli

Hi all,

On my new Asus 1000he, my screen reader is slightly choppy at
times. I wish to upgrade the ram to 2 gbs. Is there something I
need to do to the computer to prepare it for the upgrade?

Thanks,

John

Re: The saga continues . . . Re: What you hear option not available on asus netbook

2009-03-08 Thread John Chilelli

Hi Kathy and all,

ther is a pod cast somewhere of a fine fellow I think from the UK
where he reviews the Axux 900x. The pod cast is amazing in that he
had several things going including JAWS, something called Tank
Commander and I think Goldwave while he was recording everything
through his onboard mics. Does anyone know where that pod cast is?

Okay, gang. So I've installed Total recorder on my Asus computer, and from
what I can tell, there appears to be no What you hear option, and I'm
guessing it's because of the sound card the Asus uses. I've also installed
a demo version of VAC which is utterly and totally beyond my understanding!
Lol! So, can anyone in Geekland please help me see if I can set up VAC to
be able to record, either through Total recorder or Studio Recorder, both
mike and sound card output at the same time? Seems so simple, but I guess
it just isn't. Many thanks in advance.

Peace,
Kathy

Recording an acoustic piano

2009-02-28 Thread John Chilelli

Hi all,

Sory if this is off-topic. I'm a piano tuner and a customer of mine
asked me if there was a simple and inexpensive way to record the
piano for the purpose of being able to have a device prepare the
music to be put into sheet music.

Thanks,

John

Re: USB Controls

2009-02-25 Thread John Chilelli

Marsha,

you can control volumes or mute the volume of an item under the
Windows Control Panel in XP under the Speech tab. But I'm not sure
what you are saying about your headset.

Hi
I am going to try this again. Is there a way to enable or disable a
headset without physicallly unplugging it from the computer? The reason
I am asking this is because the puck has a rather tenuous wiring system,
even though it is a very good headset. Thanks in advance.
