If you are looking for a program on the pc side that is a good editor I use
golswave. Despite opinions to the dcontrary, you can make just as tight
edits in goldave as ou can in sound forge. I think a lot of it is simply
what hyou are used to in terms of an editor. Jonathan Mosen, for example,
who used to be a big proponent of sound forge, told me recently that on the
pc side he now uses studio recorder for most of his pc editing needs. Now
studio recorder doesn't have all the bells and whistle that sound forge
does, noise reduction, ability to use plug-ins, etc, but for just plain
editing it apparently works very well.

The other problem here also seems to be blind loyalty - pardon the
pun -, people buy a product - in this case Sound Forge -, they've
spent so much money on the product so therefore they're hoping beyond
hope that everything will work as it did in Sound Forge 4.5 and
they're not looking to try anything new even though times and
software are a changing and that's unfortunate as those people miss
out on anything that actually works.

Sony Creative Software have never been interested in accessibility
and I doubt they ever will be whereas other products have come along
where the developers are interested in accessibility and take note of
user feedback, there's a lot of competition out there.

A classic case in point is Sonar, I know someone who spent literally
thousands over time on Sonar this and Sonar that, upgrades and all
 the rest of it.

I encouraged him to try Reaper and.. well.. he wished he'd known
about it earlier and he's furious with himself for spending a fortune
on Sonar, of course its not his fault but I do give him credit for
having the courage to try another product and just not blindly follow
 on.

Finally, I doubt whether 99% of Sound Forge Pro users - whether Blind
or Sighted - would even use a quarter of the functions offered so
we're back to square one, why spend so much money?

On Windows, in terms of serious audio production without vision,
there is nothing that beats Sound Forge V8 if you can get it, V9 and
above have serious accessibility issues in my view and, despite me
reporting these to Sony, they've not been fixed.

On Windows, for multi-track work I use Sonar 8.5. Again, it's
excellent and allows you to be very precise in terms of achieving a
good overall balance of tracks. I like to be very precise with my
editing, and Sonar does not quite give me the flexibility that Sound
Forge does, but we do use Sonar a lot.

Good morning Carlis,
Its quite simple actually. All you have to do is the following:
1. Insert a blank cdr disk into the cd/dvd drive of your computer. If you
get a message that asks you what you want the computer to do, just press
alt f 4 to close this window.
2. Now start up windows explorer by pressing windows key and the letter E.
Once open, arrow up and down through the list of drives and folders until
you find the folder where your mp3 files are located and press tab to open
it.
3. select everything in that folder by pressing control A then press control
c to copy them to the clipboard.
4. Press shift-tab to close this window and arrow down to the burner drive,
and press tab to open that drive.
5. Now, press control V to paste everything in.
6. Press the applications key to bring up the context menu and press T. This
will bring up the burn wizard. You'll be asked to name the cd. The default
name will be the current date unless you decide to give the cd a different
name.
7. Then tab to the next button and press it.
8. A new window will come up asking you if you want to make an audio cd, or
a data cd. Windows Media Player is normally set to audio cd by default. If
it isn't, then use your arrow keys to navigate to the audio cd option. Then
press tab until you get to next and press enter or press spacebar.
9. At this point, Windows media player itself will open.
10. The easiest way to get to the start burn button, is to shift tab 9
times. Once you find the burn button, press spacebar and wait. Do not do
anything until you hear the cd drive's moter stop and the cd ejects. Once
the cd is done burning, you can press alt f 4 to close Windows Media Player.
You should then see an icon on your screen called audio cd E or something
similar. Once you find this icon, press the applications key again and press
F. You will then see a message that asks you to confirm that you want to
remove the files from the temporary area where they had been placed prior to
burning the cd. Either tab to the yes button or press alt Y. This will clear
the burn list. Now your cd is ready for your friend to play in his cd
player, just like a store-bought cd. Hope this helps. Hope you have a nice
Christmas and Happy New Year.
Mike

 Hi!

I’ve had my new Mac Mini for about a month now and thought I’d share some
 observations with you.

The Mac Mini is fast turning into my main computer of choice because of its
speed and power, here’s an example which I think illustrates the point
 rather well.

I’m testing a Mp3 player, I deleted all my Mp3 collection a few weeks back
so I needed to create or download some more, given I have a good FLAC
collection it made sense I guess to convert some of those, I started with
the Beatles Singles collection 4 CD set from 1962-1970 which contains more
 than 40 tracks.

Conversion was over in around 30 seconds and I was using the highest
settings with the LAME MP3 encoder to get the best I could out of it, on my
Windows desktop and other machines such a conversion task would have taken
around 20 minutes or even longer.

I spoke to someone about this and he reckoned it would have only taken 5
seconds or so with his Mac Pro machine and so it ought to given that his
machine contains 8 quad core i7 processors smile, mine only contains one
but I think the major contributing factor here is the Fusion Drive that my
Mac Mini uses, put simply a fusion drive is a 1TB standard hard drive with a
128GB SSD drive incorporated into the design, when idle the operating system
decides what resides on the SSD and what doesn’t based on the most accessed
files, most run applications and so on.

Now I’m not writing this post as an advertisement for Mac Mini machines as
I’m sure similar can be accomplished with Windows PC’s, I’m writing this
because I’m amazed at just how far we’ve come, encoding and creating of MP3
files used to take hours if not many minutes not all that long ago.

There is a round about way of accomplishing this. It would require a USB mixer.
The internal sound card of the Mac should be set as the default and iTunes
should play though that. A line from the headphone jack to an input on the
mixer should be established. Then a microphone should be attached to the mixer.
The mixer should show up as a USB audio device and hopefully Skype can be
configured to use it as a microphone input. If you're using Voiceover you may
also want to connect another cheap USB sound card and route Voiceover through
that and maybe even the Skype audio playback as well if you don't want that in
the mix. Skype can be real picky about what audio devices it uses and that is
why something like Audio Hijack Pro may not work.

when attach via USB. I'm sure there's a way though to Bluetooth this connection
rather than relying on a wire attachment. Any steer would be great.

I am looking to get an MP3 of a track by Octopodes, called Holding
out for a Hero. It is not available on Amazon MP3 nor on eMusic.
I've googled around and not found it elsewhere except on free MP3
download sites which I'm lyrie of trying. Can anyone suggest another
site where I can purchase or a safe free download site?
Thanks,
Jeff

I think it does have a time limit. It will prompt you to upgrade at some point.

I use www.listentoyoutube.com

It's really simple and you don't have to sign in. Just add the URL of the

Audacity question

2014-01-25 Thread Johny Cassidy
Hi there

I've been happily using audacity to put a project together. However,
something's happened now that is confusing me. I am trying to use a multi
track setting to load tracks in one after the other. This was going fine but
now I seem to be stuck in a table view. I can't arrow up and down to go to
individual tracks. I don't know what I've done. Any ideas?

Thanks and apologies for the duel posting.

Issue with soundcards and playback using Audacity

2014-01-21 Thread Johny Cassidy
Hi there

Hoping someone can help. I'm baffled as to what's happening.

I've got a laptop running the latest version of Audacity along with Jaws 14.
I'm also using a USB Blue Yeti microphone which I plug headphones into. I've
got JAWS going through the microphone, checked through the sound card menu with
JAWS utilities. I've also checked the Blue Yeti mic in the input and output
devices in Audacity. The issue I have is when I import a track into Audacity
and hit play JAWS vanishes. The track plays, but JAWS goes silent. If I
unplug the mic and put it straight back in again then JAWS is back through the
headphones. There's obviously an issue with the playback options, but I'm
honestly at a loss what it might be. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

RE: Issue with soundcards and playback using Audacity

2014-01-21 Thread Johny Cassidy
Nope. That hasn't worked. There's no effects tab either. Strange thing I've
noticed now as well is that JAWS only knocks off after a number of seconds. If
I hit play within Audacity and only let it go for about four seconds it's fine.
Any longer and it goes. The simple workaround is to unplug the USB mic all
the time, but this is annoying and will wear down the USB hub connector
eventually.

I think I've fixed it...sort of. I've just had to use the laptop on board

can't monitor the sound levels through headphones as I go. Still pretty OK

Home radio setup

2014-01-16 Thread Johny Cassidy
Hi there

I'm keen to explore getting a setup at home that I can record radio shows that
will be played out on another radio station. I currently use Audacity to
simply make a multi track recording with the tracks and links in between. This
works fine, but I feel it loses the feel of a live show. I would ideally like
a small mixing desk and an accessible playout system that I could use to do a
show as live. I'd record this using Audacity and then have a audio file I
could upload. Any recommendations would be great.

Thanks

Johny
