Subject: New Garage Band tutorials available

Hi!

2 new Take Control tutorials are available for the Garage Band music
creating, mixing and composition audio application called Garage Band for
the Mac and Iphone/ipad.

In the latest version of Garage Band, many new features have been
introduced and accessibility has been dramatically improved so if you're a
keen musician or you just want to record professional sounding Podcasts
with a few jingles then Garage Band may be just right for you.

Further to this if you're considering the switch to a Mac machine, an
Iphone or similar to take advantage of the huge benefits the Apple line of
products can deliver then perhaps you may consider joining the
Mac-Access mailing list http://www.mac-access.net, not only will you
be part of a forum that discusses all aspects of Macs and Apple products
but you'll be able to purchase any of the Take Control series of books
for a substancial discount, 80% discount in fact smile.

The Take Control series of books contains tutorials on just about every
aspect of available product including Iphone/Ipad, Itunes, Various Apple
Applcations and heaps of stuff on the Mac Machines themselves.

Now back to the Garage Band tutorials themselves,:
* Take Control of Making Music with GarageBand '11: This 159-page ebook
provides step-by-step instructions and audio examples for using
GarageBand's built-in loops to create five songs, explaining not only how
to use GarageBand's editing and mixing features but also how to be
playful and creative while composing tunes that please the ear. Readers
will learn how to plan a song, get the most out of Magic GarageBand, edit
and arrange Real Instrument and Software Instrument loops, score a video,
craft a ringtone, create exciting mixes, and export projects. The ebook
also covers how to change track volume, tempo, and panning dynamically,
and how to work with GarageBand's effects.

* Take Control of Recording with GarageBand '11: This 166-page ebook
explains how to create musical compositions with vocals, drums, guitars,
MIDI keyboards, and even the kitchen sink (make that leaky faucet work
for you!). Readers will learn how to get the most out of their existing
gear or purchase new equipment that fits their budget and style. The
ebook covers how to plan a recording session, and it discusses real-world
recording studio techniques for tasks such as using a microphone
effectively, getting the best sounds from your gear, applying effects,
fixing mistakes, using the 12 available amps and the rich collection of
stompbox effects, and recording multiple tracks at once. Two example
songs demonstrate many of the techniques discussed.

I'm kind of interested in this stuff too. I'll check out Station
Playlist, but what I do have is winamp + shoutcast. I haven't played with
it much, but how does anyone find working with it for radio/DJing
purposes? It's going to be a bit of a switch for me as I'm used to doing
it old-school with a mixing board in a booth, with nice faders and
everything to play with. probably why I've been hesitant up until now...

actually serado is software that is used by do's at clubs and it is
controlled by the computer. a dj could match beets and blend and the program
basically does what two turn tables can do.

Don't forget Reaper, from reaper.fm, with the ReaAccess plug-in for screen
readers.

Previously, Ray said:
Briefly, Soundforge is multi-channel, rather than multi-track recording
software.

Most people seem these days to use Sonar along with the JFW scripts for
multi-track. there is something called N-Track, which some reportedly
have used.

Audacity is multi-track and free and there are likely scripts for it.

If you consider the Mac, then Amadeous is said to be accessible.

I use a heil boom mic. As Bob Heil designs mics for people like Joe Walsh
as well as providing many ham radio mics, I found this a worthwhile
investment. Sounds really good and you also get a set of professional
quality headphones.

Right, have you consdiered the Logitech desktop microphone? Costs about
$20.00 and will d well for most applications, you don't have to pay a
fortune for a reasonable microphone these days.

Setup is dead simple, just plug it into your USB port, point your sound
recording software to it and you're away!

I use one here and have done for the last 2 years so I can give you a
demo

if required.

You can if you want to but the default manual of 50 is good enough for
most recording applications, you can raise or lower the manual level and
monitor it or you can turn the Auto Level function on which is really
quite affective.

You can if you want to but the default manual of 50 is good enough for
most recording applications, you can raise or lower the manual level and
monitor it or you can turn the Auto Level function on which is really
quite affective.

I'm curious, where does the adapter plug in? We cannot get them out

Does anyone know what voltage the thing is?

Need help with burning a video dvd with nero 6.

2010-10-02 Thread aadorno
hi list I have Nero 6 and what I have been trying to do is to make a video DVD.
I went to blind geek zone and got the pod cast on how to do it. I go to Nero I
choose video DVD and I take the videos that were filmed from my camera that I
already have on my hard drive and I go to the folder that they are in and I
copy them in to the part of Nero where they should go.
now here is my problem.
I put ten 5 minute videos on to this cd and I did the burn feature it works
almost but when it gets to 100 present the program tells me that it can not do
it. I have tried it over using less of the videos and still the same thing.
the DVD is empty so I do not know what to do.
can any one help me with this. I really want to put these shows on a DVD.
Thanks so much.
Angel.

Hi!
Ok, now I see how you mean, well, then the new zoom h1 is a good thing,
cause it doesn't have menus, and it's very simple to use.
if you go to blindcooltech.com, you'll hear a good podcast on this recorder.

here is my situation.
right now when I record my sessions I usually record them on to a cd, and
if I need to make a copy and I want to turn it in to an mp3 I have to use
cdex to shrink it down. that's not really the problem.
I am looking for a machine that would let me record straight from the
source. I want it to be a single stand alone recorder that would record in
stereo and that would be able to go in to my system. I would like
something with a hard drive if there is such a thing. that way I could
edit from the recorder and not use so many cd blanks unless I need to.

any way list thanks so much.

Hi Johnny:

I would be interested in a recorder that is accessible. I currently am
using the R09HR but menus are not accessible as far as I'm concerned.

There are button sequences that you can memorize to get the recorder
adjusted to the needs of the recording that I would be doing, but I tried
them with limited success and I would prefer speech.

If Tascam is going to make a accessible recorder please keep me informed.

Thank you,

Hello everyone,

I sent a message earlier today about a concept for a multi track
recorder with speech. It would be a stand alone unit, similar to a
Tascam
2488, Korg D3200, etc. For every button you push, or menu for editing
you

move to, it would always speak, to let you know where you are. I've
contacted Tascam, let them know my idea, they're interested, but wonder
how

many blind people would buy one. A stand alone unit would be more stable
than a Mac or PC based software set up, and much less costly. I'd like
to

compile a list of all interested individuals. If I can show Tascam, or
Korg, or Yamaha, that such an item would have marketability, development
may

take place. I mentioned Victor Stream and Book Sense and Olympus as
examples. The technology exists, it's just a matter of putting it in one
unit. We just need to convince the right manufacturer that speech added
to
a multi track recorder is worth their time producing one. I would also
like
to propose this idea to other blind community users groups. The more
blind

individuals alerted to this idea, the more I can show manufacturers that
this will sell. johnnyru...@windstream.net

Hi Aadorno. Hot Spot Clicker is a program written by Jim Snowbarger who
wrote the Sound Forge scripts for jaws. Basically, it enables you to
place the cursor onto parts of the screen and assign keystrokes to that
position...it's much more sophisticated then that, believe me, it can
process multiple commands based on what criteria you've set. You can read
more at the official Hot Spot Clicker site:

www.hotspotclicker.org

It's a great program that can bring accessibility to unaccessible apps.
So, to bring it back to Auto Tune, it can access parts of the screen that
are not accessible with JFW because someone has created these hot spots by
placing the mouse on unreadable controls and mapping them as keystrokes...
and it's free!, HTH cheers Steve.

Probably the ones that say system requirements windows xp or vista.
*giggles*.
In all seriousness, I'd think starting from 7.0 or 8.0 should work. Not
sure if there's a 7.5, but if there is maybe start there.
I can personally say nero 8 works great on xp, and it probably supports
vista since it was released around the same time as vista to begin with.

8.0 is officially supported with Vista. Some late versions of 7 may work
but 8.0 is the official release for Vista.

question about nero and moving folders?

2009-03-22 Thread aadorno
hi list I have Nero 6, and what I am planning to do is that I am going to
move all the music folders from my c drive to my h drive, because the h drive
is a lot bigger and I am running out of room on the c drive.
now here is my question. when I go in to Nero and I open one of the compilation
folders that have music that I saved on Nero the music comes up, but the other
day I copied the folders that are on my c drive to my h drive. then I deleted
the folder that had the music on my c drive because it was on my h drive. then
I went to Nero and I opened the compilation of music that I saved through Nero.
it opened up, but Nero said it could not find the music or something like
that, Nero also said that maybe the music was moved and that I should try again.
can any one tell me how do I tell Nero that it should go in to the H drive to
look for the music that was in the compilation that I created through Nero. I
would like the help because if not I am going to have to put all the
compilations together again by hand and that is going to be time consuming.
thanks for the help.
Angel.

Hi everyone!

I've commented on list about the Dj package called Djay for Mac and
how accessible it is, well that's correct however some of its
functions are a little tricky to set up in particular the sliders for
cross fading and so forth.

I've done a Test Mix of the settings I've made at
http://web.me.com/califeron/filechute/Test%20Mix%20from%20Djay.mp3
its a Mp3 mix of 4 tracks and you can hear how the cross fading and
processing work, if anyone things it sounds ok then I'm prepared to do
a podcast on how you set the package up, if people think it needs
further tweaking then let me know.

Cheers

Hi Angel,

You shouldn't have anywhere near 240 files, even if you downloaded all
of the language options.

I suggest that you download an installation file from
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/?q=download

The latest release version is 1.51, which has been around for quite some
time. The latest beta is 1.70 (Beta 2) which has also been
around for a long time, so it would appear that work on this program has
stopped.

If, when you first try to run it, you get an error, you might also need
to install some ASPI drivers for Windows XP. There is
information on the download page about this. I don't know if the
program runs with Vista.

I have been using the beta version with Windows XP Home for some time
without any problems.

Barry Chapman
