Re: Subscription Streaming Music Services
I use Last.fm here in the uK. There are two subscription models. 1. Pay £3 for one month as and when you like, and 2. Pay £3 per month as a regular payment, costing £36 a year. I choose the former since I don't use Last.fm on a regular basis, only to help me re-discover an artist or discover something new. Hello all so how do we get the registration of the discontinued products? I don't see any information on the page about A/V apart from the fact it is no longer available for purchase. Question about virtual audio cable
If one uses the driver as a recording source, could one record internet streams without the speech mixing into it? I know this is an issue for some particularly on Windows Vista and later and do not wish to use an external sound card. As far as I can see I know this can be done with Virtual Audio Streaming simply by setting the playback device to the virtual card in the application where the stream is to be played. -- Christopher Hallsworth To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: virtual audio cable was Re: Virtual Audio Streaming
The Audio Repeater is just used to attempt to listen to the output of what is being sent to the driver. It is not essential to use this with the driver. In fact, it appears to the system as a virtual sound card, with several input and output sources. However no sound is produced automatically, so be careful when modifying the playback settings for your system. Among other things, they provide the ability to set multiple time markers for an audio track you are playing, as well as commands for having JAWS speak the elapsed, remaining and total time of an audio track. Essentially, they provide Foobar 2000 with some of the functionality available in the JAWS scripts for Winamp. The scripts are for JAWS versions 12 and 13, but should also be compatible with JAWS 11 and earlier versions at least as far back as 9. However, I can't make any promises as I have only tested them on JAWS 12 and 13. The scripts can be downloaded from http://www.jfwscripts.cjb.net For any Winap users checking out the scripts, please note that while many of the JAWS commands are the same as in Winamp, there are some minor differences in order to accomodate the Foobar UI. Cheers and enjoy, Andrew. Virtual Audio Streaming
I found an interesting program/driver combination over on another list. It is basically a virtual audio card. It allows you to basically do what Stereo Mix could offer in XP, but perhaps more. This is especially useful for Vista and later users, or XP users whose sound card does not support Stereo Mix. Free trial with trial noise, whatever that is, added as part of the evaluation's limitations, available at www.virtualaudiostreaming.net. The program is called Virtual Audio Streaming. -- Christopher Hallsworth To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Accessibility with JAWS? RE: Virtual Audio Streaming
With NVDA it appears to be accessible so long as you know how to use object navigation, flat review. With JAWS I assume it's similar, except you can use the JAWS cursor to manipulate the program. There is also an accessible system tray icon which brings up a menu with a right click. Re: Virtual Audio Streaming
Virtual Audio Cable is indeed complicated to set up, even for a geek like me smiles. With Virtual Audio Streaming simply run the program, select the virtual card as the system's default playback, use a recording program and set that to the virtual card as the recording device, and record. Ok all software have bugs but we all do not experience any or all of them. GoldWave, Total Recorder, Noise Reduction, etc, are no exceptions. I have the latest version on my machine as I type this and frankly yes there are buggs. I don't know of many programs that don't have some so this is not a criticism at all. I don't happen to like the noise reduction capabilities in goldwave myself but that I gguess can be a matter of personal preference. I do wish that the preview options were bettter designed in gold wave and that switching presets while previewing would always take effect immediately, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I also wish the preview button was a toggle instead of having to go over to the stop button. I also wish it had a bypass checkbox and also a way to listen to the output of only the removed noise as other programs do. Having said all that, for the money you just can't beat it. To say its a bargain is tipucal british understatement grin! Don On 4/11/2012 2:18 PM, chris hallsworth wrote: You must have been using an old version of GoldWave to not like it. Update on Media Player Classic Home Cinema
I watched another DVD just now. Decided to give Media Player Classic Home Cinema another try. It's actually not a bad program at all! The way I got to the main film, plus the audio description track, was to do the following: 1. Choose the jump to submenu from the navigation menu. 2. Choose title 1 from the above submenu. This usually is the main film. 3. Choose the audio submenu from the navigation menu. 4. Select the appropriate audio track that contains description. The above step may require trial and error and even extra steps. In my case, it was the second audio track. But not only that; I had to use Any DVD to decrypt the audio track. So there's one legitimate use of Any DVD. But I found this strange! Please can I ask, why would DVD companies encrypt additional audio tracks? Thanks! Anyway, I may give DVD Audio Extractor a miss now I know how to use Media Player Classic Home Cinema. -- Christopher H To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Hello all. Well, I tried what someone suggested, either navigate to the title I want to watch from the navigate menu, or open an ifo file from the video_ts folder. I must be doing something wrong, as the menu still comes up, but can't get any further than that. No bashing here, but at least with DVD Audio Extractor's DVD player you can not only select a title; you can select a chapter to listen to, which are all checked by default. In fact, all I could see in the browse for folder dialogue box was the video_ts folder, no ifos. Please advise. Oh wow, thanks for letting me know about the registration. I personally cannot stand these methods whereby it's one computer only because the license have to match up with your machine ID or some other form of unique ID. Thanks for letting me know. I think unless I can find, download and pay for version 5 I shall not bother. I have both a laptop and a netbook so think that is unfair in my opinion. And what about if you have to upgrade the hardware of one or more machines? Just some thoughts. Sorry for the rant. Spotify versus Last FM
I realize Spotify exists, but accessibility with their client leaves a lot to be desired, and there is no other alternatives, apart from the iOS client, which not everybody owns. Last.fm on the other hand is quite to fully accessible across the board. The web client is quite accessible, I use a combination of SpeakOn and Rarmaradio as Last FM clients, both of which are quite to fully accessible depending on client of choice. I even have the iOS client, and that's quite accessible as well. -- Christopher H To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Rarmaradio
I was checking out some other products from Raimersoft, the developers of the infamous Tapin Radio. They do two more internet radio applications, Rarmaradio and Radiomax. I quite like the former. It has more stations, and even supports the last.fm radio service, www.last.fm. There are some unlabelled buttons, and some minor focus issues, for example the inability to see the list of stations once a network, country or region has been selected, unless you focus away from and to the main application window. But if you can tolerate these issues, you might want to check this out. This appears to be true freeware, in other words free with no crippled functions or ads. www.tapinradio.com and click the downloads link. -- Christopher H To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Yes. Total Recorder installs the appropriate drivers for your operating system automatically if you elect to add the drivers during installation. What virtual driver are you using in software mode? With the user mode virtual driver, an application that transmits audio should be running and playing first before the driver can capture the sound. Re: TapinRadio Version 1.52 is now Available
Hi all. I am thinking of getting Tapin Radio Pro myself. The reasons are I want to support the company, since they supported me over a couple of possible issues, which turned out to be by design. They don't have automated responses like most companies; they instead answer themselves and do so quickly. I even got more than one response to my enquiries. So that's one reason. The other reason is I can use all the features that I may either want to try or may wish to use in the future. The show new stations is an interesting one, which is unavailable in the free mode. What this does is shows new stations added to the database since the last update. See Tapin Radio relies on a comprehensive database in order to not only look up stations, but finding a source and trying to stream it. Without such a database Tapin Radio wouldn't be what it is now, a very powerful radio player. Just some thoughts. Re: TapinRadio Version 1.51 is now Available
Here is what I did to get around this problem. It does take some trial and error though so be warned! 1. Focus to the first radio button, which will be checked. 2. Right arrow until you hear another radio button, which will be checked. Since they are radio buttons, only one can be checked. 3. Tab once and uncheck all three boxes as you tab to them. 4. Continue with the install. This problem applies to Windows 7 as well, not just XP. you may like to contact supp...@ramosoft.com and explain the situation. It might be an installer problem so they may have nothing to do with the querks, but it's worth a shot. They seem to care about the blind community so it is definitely worth a shot. Good luck. Total Recorder
Hello all. A new version of Total Recorder , 8.3, is available from the Total Recorder website. www.totalrecorder.com. One new feature I like personally, and this is for Windows 7 only, is support, both for playback and recording, of the various types of MP4 formats, including M4A. Reason I like it? Excellent CD quality despite the smaller file size. For those who have never tried the program before, you can download a free, fully functional evaluation copy from the above website. The only limitation is the insertion of a short noise in a recording after about every minute. The company, High Criteria, welcomes any support required even in the evaluation mode. The license costs at least $18 depending on the edition, plus there are discounts if you decide to upgrade from one edition to another. All updates to the program are free of charge for the lifetime of the product. Enjoy. -- Christopher H To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org

Re: 2 watt versus 1 watt speakers
Yes they are stereo speakers hence two times. I have a speaker on either side of the radio. Christopher H On 10/12/2011 16:47, Dane Trethowan wrote: Well at a guess we're talking stereo? So therefore 2 times 2 watts means 2 watts per channel and given stereo then that's 2 watts times 2 channels giving a total of 4 watts. The big question here is how the measurement of 2 times 2 watts was made, given the low figure I suggest that the manufacturer of your radio was being honest and measuring the total in RMS rather than peak thus you don't get the outrageous total watts that seem to accompany heaps of products these days. 2 Times 2 wats should give you more than enough power in a radio to satisfy personal listening at least. Re: Winamp Versus wmp Versus VLC Versus....
I use Winamp full time for just about everything except buy music or manage my iDevices, which I use iTunes for. I say this as Winamp can apparently manage your iPod in a limited way, but choose to use iTunes for that and Winamp for others. I know you didn't want anything to rip or burn, but I will pass the below on anyway. The free version of Winamp allows you to rip at a maximum of 8x in the M4A, or iTunes, format. I'm happy with this personally as M4a is the best compared to MP3 in terms of audio quality (excellent) and file size (smaller than even MP3). You can burn with the free version of Winamp as well but I think you are limited to 2x. Anyway back to the point. Winamp is fully accessible providing you use the classic not the bundled modern skin that it comes with. It works with all screen readers, with or without scripts or sets or whatever. I've been using Winamp since 2001, yes 2001, when I was on Windows ME and Winamp was 2.7x, something silly like that. I use 5.622 and it is still as accessible as the early days. There was one unsuccessful version of Winamp, Winamp 3, which was an absolute disaster in terms of accessibility, and almost turned to another player until I tried version 5.0x. Just some thoughts. On 02/12/2011 23:17, Walter wrote: Hi all. I'm toying with the idea of experimenting with various media players. Unfortunately not all are worth the trouble and still others are not accessible with JAWS. At this time I use both VLC witch does a good enough job and WMP which is fine but rather restrictive. I'm referring here to playback and neither ripping nor burning as I use Nero express for burning, and now and then Express burn. For ripping I use CDEX which I like. I used to use Reel player but when I got my PC reformatted I never did reinstall it. My question is how does Winamp compare with the other media players I've mentioned? I have never observed this player being used nor of course tried it. Is it accessible with JAWS 12 and or do you need scripts to access it's functions? How is the playback quality and response time. Sometimes the latest version isn't the best version so in your opinion, what version is the most successful? Finally, what other players would you recommend, free or otherwise. The important thing is ease of use, it is of little use if the sound quality is the best in the world but if you can't use it with a screen reader then it is a waste of time. The same program works for both 32 and 64 bit. The truth is Winamp runs using the wow64 system that is implemented in 64 bit operating systems. wow means Windows on Windows, and is a system to allow 32 bit programs to run natively on a 64 bit operating system. Re: Update on Winamp was Winamp versus wmp...
Ok in the first screen choose Winamp Classic and click next. On the next screen you can leave the file types alone but uncheck use Winamp Agent then click next. You might as well skip the rest and click finish to do so. On 03/12/2011 12:55, Walter wrote: Ok folks. I have downloaded the latest version of Winamp. Or would the standard or light have been a better choice? When I launch Winamp I get the set up dialogue but I'm not sure what it is asking me. The first thing I get is a long list of file types with check boxes, I assume you can either accept them all or uncheck any file type you don't want. I also get a option to enable Winamp agent, what is this? If someone could walk me through this I would be grateful as I don't want to accept stuff that is unnecessary and just confuses things. I haven't ventured from the first dialogue screen on the set up page. Your help would be appreciated. Walter. Up until recently the only way you could select a target was to take pot luck by tabbing around the screen or moving the mouse, pressing a button and hoping for the best. Some Screen reading software such as WE allowed labeling and customisation of the buttons but this didn't seem to work all that well but it worked well enough in most cases. Now output points such as Apple TV'S, Airport Express units, Iphones, Ipads and other computers running the Airfoil Speakers application are listed in the menu which is accessed by pressing the Alt key, select the device you want to transmit to, wait a couple of seconds and transmission of your selected source starts. Conversely if you wish to stop transmission, select the device from the menu and press return, transmission of audio stops. Under new versions of Airfoil, you can transmit your source to multiple devices or instances of computers/Iphones/Ipads running Airfoil Speakers on your network. Re: recording with replay av
You need a program like Media Catcher to download and convert Youtube videos. If you're only going to use this program for this purpose, consider it as a sort of freeware. However if you want to download and convert media from other sources, then the demo limits you to the first half of the converted output; the rest well you will have to pay for. 1. Open wineyes.ini. This can be found in %appdata%\gw micro\window-eyes\users\default. %appdata% is something you can type into the run dialogue box. It should open either the roaming folder if you are using Vista or 7 or application data in xp. 2. Look for the line EnableUIA=1. 3. Change it so it looks like this: EnableUIA=0. 4. Save the file.
