I am now using Sound Forge 11 Pro, but it's not as easy to use as Sound
Forge 8 was. So if you get it downloaded, let all of us know. I have not
tried going back to it.

Hello- I am new to this list and hope to share info with you all.

I was doing well with Sound Forge 8 years ago then my XP machine crashed
and

burned. I am using Windows 7 64bit and I learned that there is a free
download for Sound Forge 8 but it requires a codec Pac 1 download as well.
Can I download all of this on my current computer without it creating
problems? I tried Goldwave and Audacity but they don't come close to the
ease and versatility of Sound Forge 8. I can't afford to buy a current
version of Sound Forge at this point. I use a JAWS screen reader 14.
Your

thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello list: You may remember I came to you to ask for help with a similar
problem a few months ago (I had a problem with a boxed set on Hank
Williams

(Cdex wouldn't tell me the track info) well I have something similar, only
this time, it's doing fine with the first two CDs of another boxed set
that

the Bare Family folks put out a few years ago on George Jones) it did fine
with the first two CDs, but with the third CD, Freed (or whatever it's
called (will not give it any information! The question is, why won't it
and

is there a way to make it work? Could it be that I just need to wait and
try again another time? This boxed set is a 5-CD boxed set; each CD has
approximately thirty tracks.and I really don't want to have to do all of
this manually! Thanks for any info you can pass along that would be
helpful!

You can make *.mp3 files, or *.wav files. It is very speech friendly,
including peak audible signaling, many ways to maintain correct audio
levels, phrase detection for speech as well as two other adjustable
parameters for pauses, punch-in or inserting recording with a single
button, and much else.
I don't understand why they inhibited all saving of recording with the
demo version, seems they could have limited the time available to save.
The cost is $200.

Okay firstly, are you using the Professional or the Free version? I have a
sneaking suspician that this makes a difference, I know that the
professional version will do Batch Conversion meaning that more than one
file will be converted.

I'm not on my Windows machine at present so can't tell you the exact steps,
from memory I think there's an Add Folder button, this adds a folder of
contents to be converted.

If you can't find that then use Add File, a standard type Browser Window
will pop-up where you can select what you wish to convert.

A list of files for switch to convert will appear in the main Window which
you can refine even further.

Grace digital audio player from Fry's It came with Adacity the free
program but this is the upgrded one I guess.
you need a trnsfer cable, which I think comes with the device. You put
your tape in, hit a hot key on adacity or whtever program you choose to
use and then hit a button on the device and it copies it as an me3 gfile.
It took me a bit of time to figure it all out but once I did, it worked
well and still does.

Hi Stewart,
Just type reaper in google and you should find it.
I believe you get a 30 day trial and then it costs about £60 or £70, which
is a very reasonable price for such a powerful multi recording program.

I'm wondering whether anyone has used the Kay-Tel blog for downloading the

I ask because I've been trying to use the site but have been told by my

I find the C Crane transmitter quite good. There is a mod that is
supposed to make the signal stronger. Mine was a returned unit, so the
first buyer may well have done the mod before returning it. It covers my
house and yard quite well. In addition, I have a 35 watt rf amplifier
that I'm thinking of hooking up to it. Don't want to go to jail though.

compact rubber duckie antenna and well regulated 15 volt power supply
that

works with 120 or 240 VAC sources.

your
audio source to the RCA inputs on the back of the unit, and you are on

carefully designed to pass even the very lowest audio frequencies down
to 20
Hz up to 15 KHz. Believe me, this unit sounds just like the big
stations!

Excellent base and highs!!!

This unit is great for transmitting audio around you home an back yard
as
well as for transmitting audio in buildings to various rooms! We have
sold

a lot of these units to churches stadiums and drive-in theatres.

The unit you are looking at is our latest unit with a remote control.
This

is especially great for the visually impared!

Its highly accurate crystal reference and PLL circuitry ensure you will

a very stable signal at all times.

The frequencies can easily be selected by pushing the recessed buttons

the remote control, (not shown). The frequency range is 87.5 to 108
MHz and
the channel resolution is 100KHz. I should also mention that the

separation is excellent!

The unit is housed in a very nice extruded aluminum enclosure that
shields

the unit. No cheap plastic box used here! For more range a high gain
antenna could be used and connected to the standard BNC connector on
the

back of the unit. Other connector types can be installed upon request.

I should mention that we now offer a few antennas, other transmitters
and
amplifiers on ebay. Please take a look at our other auctions page and

its around $84 USD.

it has menu's but it doesn't speak when placing marks, you just have to

This software won't record the files, you need a tv tuner to record the

video redo but am having trouble getting it working with jaws.

Soundforge will load the files but won't save after editing.

Any suggestions?

Hi listers,

I'd like input on turntable which have the following features:

USB and analog outputs
plays 33 1/3, 45 and 78
under $150

I was also wondering about the units which have the turntable and CD
burner in one. Can I presume if the vinyl is less than near perfect
condition, it's better to use software to apply noise reduction, etc.?

Any and all comments much appreciated,

hi ok well i haven't had one of these decks for a long time prob best to
look on ebay for one but wen i did have one they were good and its all
aboute getting a good quality one with an expensive cartridge, so that you
don't get any rumbleing sounds, which you sometimes get on some decks.

I'd like to spend $40 or less. I'm going to be using the mic only for
speaking but I still want something close to broadcast quality. I know you
can't get as good a sound with these little PC. mikes as you can with a
$200 vocal mic, but some of them come pretty close. As I said, I once had
a lab tech that sounded amazing and it was only about $6. I wish I could
remember what one it was but its probably not made any more. If the mic
you have is still available, maybe you could send me an audio clip of it.
I already have a high end sound card so a good mic would be nice to go
with it. Thanks. Joe.

windows 2000 on a separate machine and jaws 8.0
the problem is that wen i load sam brodcaster, and wen i go to tab through

it reading out the list of tracks that are in a playlist, to read the tracks
u have to use the arrow keys,
however, wen i use my other pc with the same sam broadcaster on, and jfw,
but a different operating system which is xp, its all working no problem,

has anyone come up against this problem, and is there a fix for it?

I assume you are referring to how JAWS continually speaks when saving a
file etc. For example:
s s s sa sa sa sav sav sav savi savi savi savin savin savin saving saving
saving.

To stop this, change the screen echo to none with Insert+s. Put it back
to highlighted when you are done.

Tap the letter L more than once instead of F, and you'll get the results

The letter K will stop your fast forward movement, and the cursor, if you

connection problem only occurred when another blind friend of mine
installed it onto a newly-reformatted Del computer, which had gone
from Vista to XP. It works fine for me, but after I installed it on a
computer which I primarily use for work, I had the same connection
issues. I'm thinking that either Bear Share is having network
problems, or 5.2.5 no longer works for new installs.

hi list I have Nero 6, and what I am planning to do is that I am going
to move all the music folders from my c drive to my h drive, because the h
drive is a lot bigger and I am running out of room on the c drive.
now here is my question. when I go in to Nero and I open one of the
compilation folders that have music that I saved on Nero the music comes
up, but the other day I copied the folders that are on my c drive to my h
drive. then I deleted the folder that had the music on my c drive because
it was on my h drive. then I went to Nero and I opened the compilation of
music that I saved through Nero. it opened up, but Nero said it could not
find the music or something like that, Nero also said that maybe the music
was moved and that I should try again.
can any one tell me how do I tell Nero that it should go in to the H drive
to look for the music that was in the compilation that I created through
Nero. I would like the help because if not I am going to have to put all
the compilations together again by hand and that is going to be time
consuming.

thanks for the help.

Hi don,

in order to download torrents check out torrent sites like B T junkie.com,
or mininova.oerg or you can do a google search on them.

While you're on the sites you can browse through the different torrents
that
a available. Simply select the category you want to grab stuff from like
tv
shows. the different tv show torrents will be listed. select the
download

link and save it. Once you have it saved on your computer, open utorrent
then from the file menu choose add torrent. Select the torrent you saved
on

your computer tab over to ok and the torrent will start downloading. When
finished, itt will be saved in a downloads folder created by utorrent.
This

folder by default will be in the my documents folder. Hope this helps.

Hi all,
Does anyone know of a good freeware program that will automatically
split audio files into equal parts? I like the option of by time or
number of parts. I have goldwav, but I see no way to have goldwav mark
the file into equal parts and then split into individual files. I know I
can manually mark the points in which to split, but I have several files
I wish to split into about 100 parts and don't want to manually mark all
of those.

Thanks,
Jason

With Sound Forge 9, you can record up to 8 tracks, but you can't
multi-track, that is, listen to some tracks while recording others.

I need some good suggestions for accessible software so I can stream
audio from my PC to a server where it will be webcast. Someone
suggested the plug in for Winamp. As Winamp is very accesible I figured
the plug in would be also. Boy was I wrong!! Neither the alt or tab
keys did anything!! Trashed around with it for nearly an hour and gave
up on it as a bad job. I sure hope someone on this list can help. As
ACB radio is streamed by other blind D J's then such software obviously
exists. Any help will be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Stewart,
Right-click in JAWS is number-pad star, then arrow up to properties, and
find the URL field with the arrow keys once you've pressed enter on the
properties menu item. Then go to the start of the URL by pressing the home
key, then press shift+end to select it. Press control+C to copy it to the
clipboard, then go int an email or document and paste it by pressing
control+V

Hi, I am trying to help someone who has had a cracked version of Gold Wave
but wants to now pay for a legitimate version.
How do you clear all instances of the program so the cracked information
is erased and the valid registered version information is where it
belongs?

thank you

Hello, I haven't used the latest version either, being happy with my
registered version from several years ago. I've just never needed anything
else. Unless he has added the ability in there somewhere to perform mute
and
trimming operations in there, I just record what I need and mute breaths
or

other extraneous noises with Sound Forge, mix the track down, and then go
back into Sound Forge to trim out the stuff before the song starts. I did
a

review on Main Menu when I first got the program, and so if you haven't
heard that, you could get a feel for the program for anyone who hasn't
tried
this application. The developer is from Italy, and though English is not
his

first language, he converses well, and is very receptive to suggestions
about accessibility from visually impaired users. I believe there may
still

be a link from his page to the review on Main Menu.
Thanks a lot.
Matthew

Josh,

It does look to me as if the Behringer UBB1002 does use
balanced XLR microphone connectors. I think it is a nice
mixer for the price but I would be concerned about trying to
use your microphones with some type of adaptor. You could
have a hum problem.

Do you know if your microphones are balanced? If they are,
then using them with an adaptor should work fine, but if your
microphones are not balanced then I don't know.

I thought I saw some mixers somewhere with unbalanced quarter
inch microphone jacks but I can't find them now.

You might try calling one of the places that sell mixers and
ask them but you might get a hard sell and not be able to get
off the phone without buying one.

Tom

** Message From: josh pearson **
The easiest way for me would be to have a mic on all of the
actors. I am looking at a few different mixers, the one that
appeals to me the most is the Behringer UBB1002.

My mics end in 1/8 inch male connectors, and I have a pretty
good feeling this mixer uses XLR connections.

Should I purchase 1/8 to XLR adaptors? Is there a better
mixer you can suggest that is relatively inexpensive (under
$500 prefferably) that will give me good quality and be easy
to use for the visually impaired?

Hi

Someone on here will be very very very shocked to learn that I've finally
signed up with the above, only been saying I'd do it for about five months
LOL

Any way, I've had ten dollars free which sill keep me going for around the
rest of the day LOL but try as I might I couldn't actually physically put
more money on to my balance, it said something about 2 dollars but it
wasn't clear, did it mean that you can't refill until your current balance
is under 2 dollars?

Right, going to play again now.

You could probably use some processing affects in say packages such as
Sound Forge or Goldwave to do that?

  Hi.
Yes, CDEX can rip CD tracks separately (this is the default
behaviour) and it can keep tracks together (which you have to select
from
  a
  menu).
As for CDs, none of the programs you mention will do DVD ripping, to
the best of my knowledge. What would you like to do with DVDs? Rip the
audio, rip the video, copy the disk to a backup or something else
  altogether?

  Gary,

A few listers have already mentioned CDEX but, in my opinion, this is
  the
only software you'll need to achieve all of your requirements:

  *  it's free
  * it's easy to use and fully accessible
  * it will retrieve artist, CD title, track titles, track number, year

  genre
  * you can rip to MP3, WAV a number of other formats
  * you can rip a whole CD into a single track or select a number of
  tracks
to be ripped into a single track
  * you can convert a folder or number of WAV files to MP3 and vice
versa
  * you can record directly from your line in using CDEX

Why pay for software that will do less than this?

 Hi all,

After some recent changes to my PC, the software was upgraded from Nero 5
to
Nero Express 6. Nero Express works completely differently from Nero 5
which
I was used to and appears to be a lot less speech friendly.

I have read that Nero 6 is supposed to work well with JAWS, so perhaps
there
is a difference between Nero and Nero Express. Any advice would be
 appreciated.

HI Stew, basically it's a text file, so you need a text to MP3
conversion programme, such as textalloudMP3 from www.nextup.com, or
the MP3 converter in Kurzweil. You can then do what you want.

First, no matter how many times I set volume the play control volume keeps
going to zero instead of staying at 50%.

Second, when the PC is turned up (even a little) there's a bad humming
sound
and Jaws is distorted. I checked my speakers and it doesn't look to me
like
there's really a short; just this hum and this speech distortion. I've
re-started and tried Jaws 4 and 5, and whether playing music or reading
there's a hiss when turned down and this sound when turning up the volume
that sounds like when someone's talking into a mike and gets feedback. Is
there a place, maybe in programs, that should be looked at as far as PC
 sound? Thanks.

Hi Stuart. I don't know if this helps, but you probably need a ripping
program like CDex to rip your CD's onto the harddrive. You would then use
Nero to copy to a blank CD.

Hi Billy.

These notes may vary slightly depending on the version of Nero that
 you
   have
but give them a go and see how you get on.

Using Nero to burn a compilation from tracks stored on your hard
drive

1. Start Nero from the desktop or programs menu.
2. Select CD from the choice of medium that can be written to by
Nero.
   Tab
to Next and press enter.
3. Select compile a new CD from the radio buttons. Tab to Next
and
   press
enter.
4. Now choose the format of the CD you would like to burn. Select
 Audio
from the radio buttons if you want a CD that will play in standard
CD
players or select Data if you want a CD that will be used to contain
 MP3
tracks that will only be played in an MP3 player. Tab to Next and
 press
enter.
5. Press enter on the Finish button and the compilation window will
be
  in
focus.
6. Use the keystroke windows + E to start Windows Explorer.
7. Locate the tracks you wish to add to your compilation by browsing
 the
folders on your hard drive where they reside.
8. For selected tracks, use the keystroke control + C to copy them
to
  the
clipboard.
9. Press alt + tab to bring the Nero compilation window back into
 focus.
10. Use the keystroke control + V to paste the tracks into the
   compilation.
11. Repeat steps 7 through 10 until you have added all of the tracks
 you
want to include in your compilation.
12. You may now want to reorder the tracks in your compilation. To
do
   this,
use the keystroke control + X to cut the track to the keyboard then
 use
   the
up and down arrow keys to locate the track that you wish to
 immediately
follow the track you've just cut to the clipboard. Use the
keystroke
control + V to paste the track into the compilation and it will then
   appear
at this point. NOTE: this reordering is only possible if you have
  chose
audio format and not possible for data format.
13. When you are ready to burn your compilation, close all running
applications so that Nero is not competing for your computer's
  resources.
14. To burn the compilation, press alt + F to open the file menu and
  then
press W to open the Burn dialogue.
15. Tab to the Burn button and press enter.

hi, this isn't a major problem more of an irritant. but when
listen/watching
streams using realplayer, specifically most common is mlb.tv streams.
occasionally the audio pauses for a second or two, like it's rebuffering,
but it literally lasts a second or two. there's no consistancy as too when
this happens. also, i've no idea if the actual picture glitches at the
same
time. it's a 350k stream, i'm on a broadband connection, using win XP. can
someone tell me if there are specific settings within realplayer i should
set in a certain way to get the best audio stream? i can't see the video
stream so i don't care about that, it's the audio quality i'm after! i'm
listening to a game now and there's been no glitches for 3 minutes, until
now, when it paused for about a second and is normal again.

Yes, Gary, DirectCut is quite good for audio editing, much faster too.
Here's something I use DirectCut for quite often:
learn the listening time of a large audio MP3 file, like fifty or more
 Megabytes;
with SoundForge, it took a good while for the file to be loaded, then get
 the time;
DirectCut loads the file instantly shows the total time.
Also, you can advance to any point by using the right arrow, allowing you
to
hear the rapid advance just as with an audio cd, displays the Now time.
I still need to try other features but am pressed for time just now as I'm
transferring to a new Gateway Pentium 4, going from WindowsME to XP.
I've uninstalled SoundForge from here will not install it on the XP.
 Best wishes,
 Harry Bassler
