Total Recorder Question

2014-11-17 Thread Howard Traxler
I have Total Recorder 8.2 with JAWS 11 and Windows XP Pro.  TR is working fine;
recording streams and stuff. However I must have VOX turned on because
recording stops on quiet passages. Anyone know how to turn VOX off and record
everything? Thanks.

I assume vox is an driver spisific feature? I ask as I don't see it on
my side. Probibly you use one of the older drivers wich are working
better with xp, so I cannot really comment on that as I'm on windows7
with the latest 8.5 with the curnel filter driver.

Hi there!

My reply to the original post didn’t come through so I’ll try again.

Rather than fiddling around I suggest your first port of call be the Total
Recorder web site, I’m willing to bet that this topic will be covered in one of
the FAQ sheets there.

RE: Recorder question

2012-10-16 Thread John Riehl
The answer you got is not correct.
First, the DM-620 does not use the center button to activate the voice
guidance menus. You do that by pressing the middle of the three buttons that
are just below the screen.
A friend sentme these instructions:

Now, from playing around based on what the manual said re your question, you

hit the middle of the top three buttons to get into the menus, and look for
the display and sound menu. Hit the round button in the middle of the
arrows for ok when you reach the voice guidance menu. The speed setting is
in there. You, from what I can tell, can't do it on the fly as with the
dm520.

Hi,

Does anyone use an Olympus dm-620? Someone is asking me how to change the
speed on the thing because it sounds very very slow right now, and she wants
it back on normal speed. I thought I could figure it out, but it's not
intuitive.

Thanks.

This might not work but is worth a try. Pressing the play button while
playing, My dm520 cycles through slow, fast, and normal.

It might not work if noise cancellation or Euphony is turned on in the
playback menu. Hold down the centre OK button till you get to the
talking menu. Hopefully, speech guidance is turned on.

Yep, it's out. It's the Olympus LS-100. How ever from what I read on
The comments on their intro video of it on you tube, the editing of the
multi tracks doesn't talk as yet. But yeah, all the menus and stuff do talk.
I want one. It has phantom power and everything. If it sounds good enough, I
guess I won't need the Zoom H4N.

Hi Don.
I highly recommend the kernel mode filter driver if you are using 8.x.
The reason is you can use the same features with software recording
without an actual driver present on the system.

Hope this helps.

Does this apply to the Standard edition as well? What you've written
certainly applies to the Professional edition.

Milton Ota wrote:

Yes, it is possible to change the bit rate and format--when you pull the

No, he doesn't have two sound cards it seems, I'm just wondering if he

Total Recorder's methods can be a little tricky to deal with at times,
it seems to me that the What You Hear option may be selected in which
case you either unselect that and select something else in Total
Recorder or you manually select the input in your Volume Control
settings, use properties in Volume control to adjust your sound card
or devices Record settings.

Re: A Total Recorder Question

2009-11-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
Right so now we know where we're at smile, yes you can do that but you'll
need to alter a few settings, some of this has already been addressed.

Load your file into Total Recorder first if its a wav, mp3, Flac, or whatever
then Total Recorder should be able to handle it.

Now from the file menu select Save as, enter a file name and tab to the
change button, here's where you make changes to sampling rate, format and so
on, there are already some presets there by default but you may need to create
an entirely new one for your specific purposes, once done get out of that
dialogue box and press the Save button, saves you having to record from
Windows Media Player or, Winamp or anything else.

Hope this helps.

Tom,

Let me ask you this, do you know what is the file extention that you are
trying to open in Total Recorder?

Do you know where the file is saved and how to navigate to the file when you
use the Open File option under the file menu?

Is your copy of Total Recorder a Registered copy?

I don't think you have answered these questions so that people on the list
can help you better.

If your copy of Total Recorder is not Registered, there are certain
functions that will not work properly where you are using the Standard or
Professional.

Success! It worked! This all started when this particular tune wouldn't
play in one of the music rooms at a site called VIP Conduit! I had heard
that, sometimes by changing the bit rate, a file would then play! Oh but I
never knew how to do it (I know some people have Gold Wave..and do file
conversions that way. Then I remembered that I had heard that Total
Recorder would do this; since I'm on this PC Audio list, I figured I'd see
if there was anybody here that could explain how this process was done!
Thank you all for your indulgence!

Re: A Total Recorder Question

2009-11-26 Thread Dane Trethowan
not at all! that's what we're all here for smile.

Total Recorder and Goldwave I have to say are probably some of the most
amazingly priced titles in the audio tools shopping basket I've ever seen for
Windows. I can't comment on Total Recorder Standard edition because I've never
used it but I can say that Total Recorder Professional is an incredibly
powerful and flexible application, not just for recording now but for editing,
adding effects, processing and converting audio, all that for $35.00. goldwave
is just value for money handed to you on a plate if you're doing professional
audio editing, combined with the Multiquence software you have a studio in the
palm of your hand for less than $100.00.

A Total Recorder Question

2009-11-25 Thread Tom Kaufman
Hello list: I have Total Recorder on my Windows XP machine; I love it for
recording things..but seems to me that it'll do other things as well; one of
the things I'm wondering about is being able to convert files..or changing the
bit rate..is it possible to be able to do this with Total Recorder? Am running
Jaws 11. Thanks ahead of time!

Yes, it is possible to change the bit rate and format--when you pull the
files menu down, click save as, then tab over until you land on change.

Open the change and you should land on a list box to change the format, keep
tabbing over and you'll see some of the other changes you can make to the
file.

Hope this helps.

It should work for any of the supported file formats that Total Recorder
will recognize, wav, wma, ogg (requires a plug-in) etc.

Total Recorder question

I use Total Recorder 7, Professional Edition.
With previous editions some years ago, one could easily locate in the main
window, info such as duration or length and current position.
Not having success with this now. Can anyone tell me how one can easily access
this kind of status info.

Zoom Recorder question

2009-03-06 Thread Jim
Howdy,

I have the Zoom h2. Currently, I have it to record with only the two front
microphones turned on. I'd like it to record in surround sound with all
four microphones turned on while still in mp3 format. I am recording at a
high mp3 format right now.

How do I accomplish this?

Is there a setting or menu?

Jim

Also probably the plextalk pocket. It's much more of a recofrder than the
xtreme and probably the most accessible recorder on the market at present.

It also probably gives you jmore recording options than the olympus series.

you can go to
http://www.irti.com
and you can purchase it from there
you can play audio books with the plex talk as well, in mp3 format and they
do not have to be daisy compatable either and the new firmware should give
mor functionality when it comes out.

What do you want from it? I would say it's a toss up between the Stream
and

the Plextalk. Stream plays more of the audio books and such, while the
Plextalk records in stereo. Sorry, can't have everything. Make a
choice.

Re: Studio recorder question:

2008-11-10 Thread Kelly Pierce

don,

What isn't clear in the manual is that it is necessary to select wave view
in the view menu rather than time view. While blind people won't be
looking at wave patterns, former Sound Forge users like myself are used to
selecting pieces of audio with the shift and arrow keys and being able to
enlarge or shrink with the keyboard the increment that is selected. This
is called the zoom ratio. The time view doesn't use the zoom ratio for
selecting text. Realize that in Studio Recorder though shrinking or
expanding the zoom ratio is done with function keys rather than the up and
down arrow keys, which do something else.

Hi Kelly.

Thanks for the info.

Yes I need to subscribe to the list, haven't done that yet.
What I didn't see in the manual was exactly what you described moving the
arrows with the shift key as you would in sound forge or goldwave to move
a marker that may have been improperly placed.

thanks a bunch.

I adjust selections by going to the beginning or end of a selection
using the control right bracket or control left bracket keys and using
the right and left arrow keys and the shift key.

BTW: Are you familiar with the Studio Recorder mailing list? Details
are on the SR page on the APH website.

I read the entire manual and didn't see mention of a way to move a
marker or would you just use scrub at that point?

P.S. does anyone know anything about the Plextalk RE11 remote control
for studio recorder?

I am looking for a remote control unit that I could preferrably use
with all recording software such as goldwave, sound forge stuido

Is this a fantacy?

Recorder question

2008-09-01 Thread Brandon Hicks
Hi all,
I'm going to be going to a heavy metal concert in October. It's going to
be in a club, not a stadium or anything like that.
Now I have an Iriver H340 with rockbox and a pair of external mics.
They're custom made, and I'm not sure exactly what the capsules are.
My question is, would this work, or would anyone recommend getting an
H2, or something else?
I can't really recreate the conditions in the house, or else I'd be able
to test it myself and see if it'd work. So I'm asking those who've tried
it, or who have the capability to put out lots of sound and see how the
Iriver handles it with the latest Rockbox.
Or those of you who've tried recording concerts or other similar loud
stuff with lots of bass with any of the other popular recorders out
there for your opinions.

Thanks
Brandon

without success, but i don't give up easily, i am in possession of an I

made by cowone am i the only person in the whole world with such a
recorder, it has a built in microphone, a line in facility which i'm told
can also be used to take an external mike, it's about the size of the
zenstone one gigabyte, at present it doesn't seem very blind friendly, but
as i say, i don't give up easily, i'll keep experimenting with it, can
anyone pour any light on this gadget?? thanks, joe.

I am using Jaws 7.1 and a beta of Studio Recorder.

To check the current time of the track playing I can sometimes read that
by pressing numpad 5. but sometimes it is not there. I thought it was
maximising that would fix it but again it seems to go away of its on
accord. I check the view menu to ensure that the Time view is checked.

 Should it be there consistantly?

maximising that would fix it but again it seems to go away of its on
accord. I check the view menu to ensure that the Time view is checked.

 Should it be there consistantly?

total recorder question

2007-03-02 Thread Sunshine
I have the latest version of total recorder, and i am having a strange
problem that i do not know what is going on
Using windows xp home 512 ddr ram, a sound blaster audigy 4 pro i believe
the sound card is
First of all i had replay av in and tried the program out i uninstalled the
program, and went back to use total recorder but i found this to be strange
and need some help if at all posible?
i can record with the program but when wanting to play the file back in
total recorder 6.1 i either get a crackling or no play back at all; so i
just recorded a bit from the line in and then from a radio station that i
wanted to record in software mode and saved the files they play just fine
when i have them saved but i can not play them in total recorder to edit
them or anything please advise as to how to fix this?
p.s. i read the stuff about windows vista and am also wondering if this
could effect the usage of total recorder 6.1 in windows xp home? since the
recording stuff has been changed a bit? not sure what that might have to do
with the problem i am having but thought i would ask anyway.

First, make sure you have lane_enc.dll set up in this
folder: C:\WINDOWS\system\Lame_Enc.Dll

Next, go into the Recording Source and Perameters dialog, and make
sure Convert using Recording format specified below is
checked. then hit space on the Change button to open the dialog to
set the recording format. You will have a combo box to choose the
file format, also various presets for common formats.

Hope this helps.

go to your settings and see if you find it there or go to the options where
you set up for recording and in there you can choose what recording format
you want.

RE: Total recorder question

2005-10-01 Thread Caroline Ford
Hello,

I use Total Recorder's own driver and find that I need to set Total Recorder
to record before I actually start the stream I want to record. If I start
the stream first and then select Record in TR, I can sometimes end up with
an empty file.

Caroline.

Hi,

If you are using the sound card rather than total recorder's
driver, simply change to the what you hear option, or if you don't
have that option, which, I believe only creative labs products do,
try stereo mixer or whatever your sound card has for such an option.

Re: Total recorder question

2005-07-08 Thread Dean Martineau
Hi, Don. I finally tested that Total Recorder problem, to review, we're in
the advanced dialog of the Auto-stop recording feature telling the program
when to stop recording. The second check box lets us say that if nothing is
recorded for a given number of seconds, the recording should end. I first
cleared the value that was automatically inserted in the duration field,
then went into the advanced dialog where this checkbox is found. It worked
perfectly. I told TR to quit if nothing was recorded for 40 seconds, and
to shut down Winamp when it was done. I launched a sound in Winamp,
stopped the sound and less than a minute later it did what I told it to
do. Again, I haven't tried 5.2, though it doesn't seem likely this would
be broken. I think a key is making sure that initial duration field is
cleared.

Total recorder question

2005-07-06 Thread Donald L. Roberts
When I initially posted this approximately three weeks ago, it did not
elicit a single response. So I thought I would try again.

- Original Message -
From: Donald L. Roberts

I am using Total Recorder professional, version 5.2. My question,
however, centers on a
segment of Total Recorder which is fundamentally the same since version
4.

Pardon the length of this; however, I want to make it clear what I am
trying to find out.

Suppose one is making a recording in Total Recorder professional.
I want to select the conditions when Total Recorder will automatically
stop recording. So
after commencing recording, I click on auto stop recording, set the
duration, and then click
on advance stop recording conditions. There are three check boxes under
this. The first
allows one to tell T R to stop recording if the file size exceeds a
designated number of
megabytes. The third check box allows the user to instruct T R to stop
recording if the sound
thresh hold is not exceeded for a user specified number of seconds.
There is also a combo box
which allows the user to designate a minimum number of seconds of
recording, before which T R
will not shut down.

So now for the question. I mentioned the uses for check boxes 1 and 3.
But specifically what
is the purpose for the second check box. By its wording, it would
appear to duplicate that of
check box #3. But I am certain that this is not the case. So just what
is the use for check
box #2?

Thanks for responses.

Re: Total recorder question

2005-07-06 Thread Dean Martineau
Don, good mystery. I think the culprit here may be phantom information
from a screen reader. In sum, I'm going to suggest that you write to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] with the question, explaining that you use a
screen reader, then please share your answer with me. They are very
responsive.

I haven't moved to 5.2, still using 5.1. I hadn't poked my head into the
auto-stop recordingdialog, so thanks for the opportunity.

Using JFW, I don't see the problem you report. Maybe I'm misunderstanding,
not unlikely. In advanced stop recording conditions, there are three
checkboxes, each of which expands when checked so that relevant data can be
offered. The first limits the recording to a size, the second says that if
nothing has been recorded for a given length of time, stop, and the third
lets you be more elaborate, saying that if the sound threshold does not
exceed a given percentage for a given period of time, we stop, as long as a
certain specified minimum recording length has been achieved. I haven't
looked at the dialog with WE.

That's how I read it. Let's figure out where the reality lies.

Dean, Window-Eyes reds the text the same as JFW. Believe me, I have
tried it as I have a demo of JFW 6.2 on my system. The problem is that
if one selects that second check box and specifies a period of time,
Total Recorder continues to record, long after the specified amount of
time has elapsed.

Please test this and let me know what you find.
