Re: zoom h1 recorder
Regarding the microphones? I've never heard that before. The USB is simple, when the power is off and the Zoom H1 is connected to the computer then the Zoom H1 acts as a storage device enabling you to transfer files from the Zoom H1 to your computer and vica versa. When power is on and the Zoom H1 is connected to a computer the computer powers the Zoom H1 which can be most useful. Be sure that your H1 has the most recent software update applied which enables some new features and fixes some bugs, one was really nasty - if the battery went flat whilst recording then part of your recording would wander into space -, the problem is fixed so that everything is written to SD card until the point when power is interrupted. Listen to Neil's review, he talks about a few tips and tricks which you'll find useful. On 11/14/2017 11:18 PM, Aidan wrote: Thank you so much. Only problem is I don't remember exactly what the default values are as its been ages since I've bothered setting the thing. You can also perform software updates and format SD cards by holding down other buttons whilst turning the Zoom H1 on. As far as MP3? Yes, I've recorded in specific MP3 modes and again - from memory - you can select between 128 and 320K which I've done. I used my T-Coil of my hearing isntruments to determine what bit rates the MP3 was set to, you can also change the sampling rate I think bout again not sure though it would all come back to me if I picked up the unit. Do not under estimate the MP3 encoder in the Zoom H1, you could for example set the encoding to 128K and record for hours and hours, a most useful logging tool for example. The format slide switch switches between MP3 and wave so you need to use the Forward/Rewind up/down buttons whilst in "Standby" mode to set the various MP3 bit rates - when the format switch is in MP3 format mode - or the various bit and sample rates for wave - when the format switch is in the Wave format mode -. I used a 16GB card in my machines so I had plenty of space at my disposal for hours of good quality wave recording. The time and date can be set and I've done it a couple of times, when you turn the unit on you hold down the "Stop/Record" button from memory and that puts you into the settings mode for time and date. The values start from a default and I think its year, month, day, hour then minute and a press of the "Stop/Record" button advances to the next set of digits. Oh hell yeah he can do what evs with it, it's just before you do take it down, how about making the stuff available so people can nab it before. I mean, I found epic stuff later on that I didn't nab. There's also the question of people wanting to re save stuff. That's all. Now in the particular case we are talking about here, we maybe in luck. external microphones for Zoom H1 recorder
Hi! Many of you know that I've been enjoying my Zoom H1 recorder for over the last month. I have been looking for a small stereo microphone I can plug into the recorder which I can clip on to my shirt collar or pocket and I've finally found one in the Son ECM-CS10. This microphone is powered from the unit it plugs into and I dare say that its probably compatible with the Olympus recorders as well, its certainly compatible with most of the Sony minidisc recorders out there along with the Sony PCMD-50 digital recorder. Nothing special about this microphone apart from size, less than 3 inches long. Its not meant for professional use but it will cover many recording applications including lectures and field work, frequency range from 50HZ-16KHZ Amazon in the U.S. sell the microphone and it sells for around $16.00 so its dead cheap, given this fact you may perhaps consider buying a couple, one to have as a spare, they work quite nicely. Now just changing tac a little though still on the same subject of microphones, I'm considering buying 2 Audio Technica atr3350 lapel mikes again to use with the Zoom H1 but these are mono microphones so obviously I'm going to need some sort of adapter for the Zoom, anyone got any ideas? hmm, but would you get each mono microphone then in each channel? I've next got to check out what the power requirements of these microphones are. Regarding the battery issue I was having. I wasn't aware of the fact that the manual suggests you take batteries out ... In my view they're the best advance we've had in consumer battery technology in the last 30 years. I've been using mine for the last 4 months nearly and they haven't missed a beat but then again I was brought up by the old school in battery thinking, flatten them then charge them then flatten em again then charge em smile. I only had the printed manual and perhaps manual isn't the best way to describe it because there's nothing much to read smile but at least I got that useful scrap of information smile. Once again my hearing aids with their induction pickups came to the rescue, you see they told me that the Zoom was taking current from the battery even when the power was off. Given the fact that recording time with the Zoom is about 8 hours then it makes perfect sense to carry around backup batteries with you anyway so this whole thing about batteries draining when the power was off was a trivial matter as far as I was concerned at any rate. Re: Question about the Zoom H1 recorder
The Zoom H1 recorder is probably the easiest recorder for anyone to use which has ever been invented, its only some poor unfortunates who make it hard or impossible by making mountains out of mole hills, I've received a lot of private email on this subject and you just wouldn't believe the stuff I've read. One person wrote that he wouldn't buy one because it wasn't accessible, accessible?Well if you can use a cassette recorder then you can certainly use a Zoom H1 and if its not accessible then nothing ever will be. Yes of course the Zoom H1 has some problems and one I think worth noting concerns the buttons on the side of the recorder, they're rather small so if you have bing fingers then that may be tricky however, the developers of the recorder - when you look at the size of the unit - had little choice so if you want small? Well sacrifices have to be made somewhere. One great feature of this recorder is its output amp, incredibly powerful, clear and loud so I can only assume that this recorder uses a digital amp of some kind. The Zoom H1 is absolutely perfect for this, only thing you may wish to do is to turn the input gain down a little bit from its default of 50, 30 may be a good level. Re: Question about the Zoom H1 recorder
Could you be more specific on these? I mean - correct me if I'm wrong - but are you saying that each battery contains both a rechargible and an alkaline battery so that the alkaline keeps the other charged? I can understand the theory of that. The batteries I have are made by Sanyo and they are supposed to retain 80% of their charge for up to 12 months but I'd certainly be interested in these other type you mention, what's the MA rating etc. On 18/11/2010, at 11:16 AM, tim cumings wrote: Dane I have a set of these hybrid batteries which are a combination nickel metal hydride and alkaline battery, so that they are rechargeable while not losing power when not in use. No this can't be done, all the hardware's there though so perhaps Zoom may - in the future - release a firmware upgrade to allow this functionality. The Zoom H2 can be used as a sound device when connected to a computers USB port. If you like your recording then I think you'll be extremely happy with it. Yes, it lacks a few features and functions I'd like but then again you're getting a recorder for a price which is extremely accessible and those two conditions on a product these days are extremely rare so make the most of the Zoom H1. You can if you want to but the default manual of 50 is good enough for most recording applications, you can raise or lower the manual level and monitor it or you can turn the Auto Level function on which is really quite affective. I am waiting for the accessory pack to be available. I think the adapter plugs into the USB port, although I am not sure until I get the accessory pack. - Original Message - From: Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net To: PC Audio Discussion List Pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, October 29, 2010 11:09 AM Subject: Zoom H1 recorder Hi! Does anyone else have one of these wonderful devices and if so do you have the AC power adapter for same? I'm curious, where does the adapter plug in? We cannot get them out here in Australia so I'm going to have to find a substitute somehow. Does anyone know what voltage the thing is? Re: Zoom H1 recorder
Yep well that would make sense I guess smile, wonder if these USB ports use a standard voltage? The idea of using a USB port for a power input jack is of course nothing nnew and makes a certain amount of sense as it saves space. My hearing instruments use USB ports for charging as does my Nokia Phone. On 30/10/2010, at 3:49 AM, Gary Schindler wrote: I am waiting for the accessory pack to be available. Hi! Can you tell me where you got the accessaries pack from? Will the adapter handle international voltages etc? Re: Zoom H1 recorder
Dane the ac adaptor pugs into the usb cable which plugs into the recorder. The adaptor plugs into the wall or the mains as you call it down under. Here that is obviously 110 volts.
