The canvas I've used on my R2400 came from Premier Art. It's made in Switzerland. It's a 13 inch by 20 foot roll, and it's product number is SP91220. In answer to Igor - yes the -1.5 EV for the flash is to keep a more natural look and avoid overblown highlights etc. As to the to the +2EV on the body - I do find that the camera and flash combo tends to underexpose - quite badly sometimes, and I need to pump this up to avoid having to do it PP which tends to cause bad artifacts including the notorious banding issues in dark subjects. Even so I still had to add another 1.33 EV in lightroom! In fact, this is the biggest complaint I have with the system - chronic underexposure with the flash and K10D. Re: Question about canvas (reposted)
Thanks a lot to everybody for responding with a lot of helpful information! ... despite Dave not using Peter not using canvas... (or something like that) :-) If somebody is interested, let me share my experience with these non-traditional media. I actually had a few prints printed on canvas and on watercolor paper. I liked canvas better. With a proper matting (or stretched -- one has to remember leaving plenty of margin) and framing (of a suitable subject photo) you get an effect of a painting. I had it done twice, once by a pro-printing lab near me, in San Diego (chromedigital.com), and the other time by a lab in Russia. The canvas differed considerably. One of them had a coarser grain. (Also, I learned about this protective coating that is presumably good even for pigment ink: PremierArt Print Shield.) Recently I tried to print on Kodak Endura Metallic Paper which is according to Kodak suitable for both optical and digital printing. http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/products/papers/enduraMetallic/main.jhtml http://preview.tinyurl.com/2dmfwf I like the effect produced by some selected photos. I've done it at mpix.com, but I see that adoramapix.com also can do it. Mpix.com e-mail a suitable colorspace profile for proofing in Photoshop upong request. The big deal on the touch/iPhone isn't the PocketPC/Palm/Blackberry-type functionality(Which is very common), it's the iPod side of things. The iPhone is hands-down the best MP3-playing phone available, and also offers a lot more storage than most SmartPhones. If the iPhone had an HDD, I'd be interested in one, as it is, it's a downgrade as an MP3 player from my 60GB iPod. -Adam On 1/10/08, graywolf [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: What is the difference between that and my old Toshiba e755? That was the one thing I felt was a bit disappointing about the iTouch; as a digital photo wallet, it wasn't as good as the high-end HP or Dell Pocket PCs which had a full VGA-resolution screen (640x480). They might not be quite as big, but comparing them the iPod Touch and iPhone screens seem to present photos more nicely than the others I've seen. Re: new regulations on lithium batteries on aircrafts
I just looked at my Apple PowerBook G4 battery markings ... there are no numbers, only that it is 10.4V nominal and Li-Ion chemistry. The specifications state that it is 50 watt-hours capacity, so not an issue for these regulations at all ... Re: Samsung GX-20 first glimpse.. Is this the new K20D ?
Outside of Apple and Archos, there's very little in the way of HDD-based small media players. But it's currently the only way to get capacities over about 16GB economically. Flash just isn't cheap enough or small enough for the higher capacities. Note the iPod classic is currently a 80GB or 160GB, the latter approaching the max capacity of the larger 2.5 Laptop drives, but using a 1.8 drive instead. -Adam On 1/10/08, Cotty [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 10/01/08, Adam Maas, discombobulated, unleashed: If the iPhone had an HDD, I'd be interested in one, as it is, it's a downgrade as an MP3 player from my 60GB iPod. Digital 1997
I'm going through some old diaries lately. I'm doing a sort of point form list of the work i have done the past 34 years in the survey business, for what i hope to be, a memoir book. Don't hold your breath, its taken me 5 years just to get this far:-) Oct 1997, i purchased a Kodak DC25 digital camera. Held 8 pictures on board and could take a 2 Meg CF card for an additional 20 or so pictures. I forget the actual number, but it was not much. The camera took 640 x 480 pictures and used some Kodak software to process from their formate to jpg. The camera was $419 plus taxes and the card was $280 plus taxes. So, for $700 plus taxes, what do we get these day. Some pretty decent gear, i would say. Just thought that was amusing to say the least. Re: Samsung GX-20 first glimpse.. Is this the new K20D ?
Of course it has a touch screen. Be kind of hard to use without one. It was actually the first of the modern high res screen Pocket PC's, VGA, compact flash sd card slots, built in wifi, IR wireless. Newer Pocket PC's are faster but generally do not have a lot more features. With a CF GPS plugged in it has served as my in car navigation system as well as pocket organizer, but it lost the top line on the screen about a year ago, and now the battery is gone. Unfortunately I can not afford to replace it, or even the battery. But, hell, I can't afford to go anywhere any more anyway... New member with old (I'm sure) question
Greetings, folks. After years of hearing about this list from its members who are on other lists in which I participate, and after realizing that a high percentage of my film photography uses Pentax equipment, I've finally joined. I'm an amateur photographer with former professional experience and about 35 years of practice, not necessarily doing the right things. I've have everything from a Canonet 28 to 4.5 Cambo. My digital work is done using SOB (some other brand--Canon), but most of my film work is done using either a 645N, 645NII, or a 6x7. I also have a modest collection of ex-Soviet stuff just for fun, and frequently use the better of the lenses for that system on my 645 with an adapter. I also have some old and now retire Mamiya and Rolleiflex TLR's. I live in Northern Virginia after growing up in Texas. Whatever I might have earned by introducing myself will now be dashed by asking a question that I'm sure has been discussed to death. But searching the archives seems to be quite difficult in that one must do a lot of downloading, etc. So, I'll just ask it and beg for forbearance. What is the latest scuttlebutt on a Digital 645? The latest I heard, from my dealer but not seen in print anywhere, is that they are re-engineering it with a 31MP sensor. I have also heard that it will be offered in Japan only and not North America. I'm holding off on buying a new digital camera and have been waiting for this one for a long time, and though I believe a larger sensor in a 645 body would provide superior image quality to anything in a 24x36 or smaller format, I'm starting to lose heart. A link to something specific in the archives would be appreciated if you don't want to rehash. Re: New member with old (I'm sure) question
Rick, Welcome. A fair number of rumors here in the past. There was a non-working mock-up at a pdma, then another under wraps the following year, then an announcement putting the project on hold. (Hoya) Then rumors that the whole thing was dead and to forget about it. Personally, I'm hoping this is wrong. ;-) Regards, Bob S. On Jan 10, 2008 4:43 PM, Rick Denney [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Greetings, folks. On 10/01/08, Steve Desjardins, discombobulated, unleashed: I like the iPod touch. The iPhone was all wrong for me, especially given ATT coverage in this rural area where I live, and I'm pretty hard on cell phones. Understood. My phone is used intermittently every single day. I say intermittently, but on the days I am working, it is in a charging cradle on the dash with Google maps guiding me, phone calls in and out. I seem to keep under the 600 minutes a month (just). Then if i get out the car, it does. It then slips into one of these: http://www.senacases.com/Brands/Apple-iPhone-Cases/SENA-MAGNETFLIPPER- CASE-FOR-iPHONE http://tinyurl.com/39khuq which would fit the Touch as well I think. Indeed. Arguably, if they maintain a positive pressure differential, it should be weather proof. You'll be on it a while waiting for the D645 ;-) So it would seem. It would appear that the paltry information I found in a quick web search is all there is to know, at least for people not employed by Pentax. Knowing what I know about the difference between price and cost, I suspect Pentax (Hoya) may have found that they can't make it cheap enough to sell it for what they should sell it for to compete with Canon (and perhaps Nikon) offerings. That will kill a project faster than mere technical infeasibility. The itching happens whenever I contemplate a Canon 5D. No, it's not 31mp, but I don't need 31mp and generally don't want to have to store it. I would have been happy with 18 million larger pixels in the Pentax. I have no means of scratching the itch when contemplating an 18mp Canon, but a Pentax at a similar price might force me into penury. I have plenty of lenses either way, but generally I think larger is better even with digital. I'm happy with what I get from film except that the time it takes to scan it keeps me from doing very much of it. On to more important pursuits: Finding an affordable 45mm lens for the 6x7.
