I've left pentax WR bodies on tripods in the rain for hours. No ill effects. The other day I slid down a hill accidentally. I had dirt all through the front edial. Photographer's Websites Critiqued on The Grid ep. 109
Yesterday's episode of The Grid was interesting. Instead of doing a critique of photos, Colby Brown, Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski gave their opinions and advice on the photographer's websites. Matt K actually tried to keep things on topic and there was significantly less random chatter than usual. I'm sure everyone won't agree with what they say, but their comments are certainly worth considering. They were mainly talking about sites that were trying to sell photos, not casual photo sharing. During my workshop last week we did a touristy sunset boat ride along the Pictured Rocks area of Lake Superior. About half-way through the ride it started raining and didn't let up for 45 minutes or so. Everyone on the upper open deck scrambled to the covered portion below. A few of my fellow workshoppers huddled in the entrance to the down-below, occasionally ventured out for a quick snap, their cameras covered with a plastic bag. I stood in the rain in the aft corner of the boat, the ideal viewing/photography spot, and nobody was jostling me as continued to shoot. It was great! Vivitar S1 70-210mm back from repair.
Well I just picked up the Vivitar S1, (third version), that I sent out for repair at the post office. It seems to be working exactly as it did before it's unfortunate accident. Unfortunately that lens has always been a bit wonky as far a metering is concerned. I sometimes get the feeling that Vivitar only slapped an A mount on it and didn't change the way the aperture mechanism worked to match the Pentax A standard. However it only cost a nominal amount to get the aperture lever working again, so I'm pretty happy. I guess I'll post a few sample pics as soon as I see something I think is worth photographing. -- A newspaper is a device for making the ignorant more ignorant, and the crazy, crazier. - H.L.Mencken -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

good stuff - you had a great sky for a background, too. The one with the lone person in it and the one just after are my faves... I think.. but all interesting Not being a sailor, I thought the old gaffers were going to be the kind of two legged critters that get credited at the end of a film - these guys :-) clipped from Wiki... A gaffer in the motion picture industry and on a television crew is an electrician, sometimes head of the electrical department, responsible for the electrification (and sometimes the design) of the lighting plan for a production's grips. The term Gaffer originally related to the moving of overhead equipment to control lighting levels using a gaff. The term has been used for the chief electrician in films since 1936 according to the Oxford English Dictionary.[1] However, a book on motion picture production from 1929 refers to the chief electrician as the gaffer.[2] The gaffer's assistant is the best boy.[3] Sometimes the gaffer is credited as Chief Lighting Technician (CLT). Re: GESO - The Apple Don't Fall Far from the Tree
First, I thought Apple doesn't fall as far as NASDAQ. :-) If I may, - a few comments. It's a fun gallery, but I think it is not as spectacular as your typical GESOs. I can tell that the light conditions were harsh, and you had to work with what's available. But the first thing that came to my mind is how the shots were framed. I assume you were shooting in the open (not from the hip). - In that case, I would have done the framing rather differently on several photos (e.g. #5, 7, 8, 10, 15). Those are either too much shifted to one side (to my liking), or include extraneous subjects that could be avoided if slightly reframed. On the shot #6 I would try to avoid the slight overlap with the water bottles by moving slightly, probably forward and to the right (while keeping the monitor speaker off the feet on the either side). I'm sure everyone won't agree with what they say, but their comments are certainly worth considering. They were mainly talking about sites that were trying to sell photos, not casual photo sharing. I didn't quite get what you meant by the description either, but that does look nice. It isn't keeping as much of the original logo's A, but I agree it is a good looking P.
