Re: Pentax K-01 follow-up? (or other Pentax K-mount mirrorless)
The K-01 was back in production, at least for a while. It returned in blue and white. http://photorumors.com/2013/07/04/pentax-k-01-marc-newson-camera-resurrected-in-blue-and-white-colors/ It was available from Adorama or BH in that version in August IIRC. They don't seem to have them now. On 10/21/2013 2:28 PM, Ciprian Dorin Craciun wrote: (For the meat of the subject you could skip directly to the paragraph THE DILEMMA. Below I add some context to it.) As I've mentioned yesterday in the thread Which camera brand would you choose, if you started from scratch? I currently own a new-ish Pentax K-30 and an old FujiFilm FinePix S5600 / S5200. Although the K-30 serves me well, it fails to completely replace my Fuji S5600 for a simple reason: it's too large and heavy to easily fit into my laptop backpack (especially when I travel without photography in mind). (Even the Fuji is at the limit, however I managed to log it with me almost every day in the last few years, and everywhere I traveled.) Thus I'm looking for a portable replacement for the Fuji. I've looked at m4:3 (Olympus and Panasonic), Pentax Q, the Ricoh GR / GXR, Fuji, both fixed and interchangeable lenses, etc. I've even looked at point-and-shoot from various manufacturers, (including Pentax, Olympus, Nikon and Cannon) which I've disregarded due either lack of manual control or too small sensors. All (except the PS) were nice and compact replacements, however they all failed to beat the Pentax-K01 in two respects: they are more costly (at least in my country), and they don't take K-mount lenses of which I already have two. == THE DILEMMA == Therefore my question (or questions) is: is there any chance that a K-mount mirrorless will appear in the near future (i.e. 6 months till it hits the shelf)? Or should I buy the K-01 while it's still available in stock (I know it's out of production)? Or have I missed something which advises against the K-01? (I must note that I haven't read too many reviews...) (I must note that I haven't read too many reviews...) The only thing that I don't like about K-01 is that you cannot attach a EVF to it - you absolutely have to focus/compose by the screen. In the bright light this may prove an issue. You could buy this accessory that attaches to the back of the camera and blocks the stray light, but it would make your camera significantly bigger. The one time I saw a K-01 in person, was at an outside event on a sunny day. I found the viewfinder to be surprisingly easy to see outside in sunlight. When I was out shooting yesterday I met another K-5 shooter. He also has a K-01 that he says he uses primarily for manual focus lenses because of the focus peaking. His big complaint with it is that when shooting raw it will only shoot one frame per second. Beside that - if you can handle the ergonomics - it's fine. I don't grok though why you have so much trouble with using your Pentax lenses on other cameras. All mirrorless (or most of them) cameras can be used with Pentax lenses via adapter. I have one such adapter for Leica M-mount, so that I can use my A50/1.2 on Ricoh GXR. You still get focus peaking and semi-auto mode (you set aperture on the lens, camera sets the rest - shutter speed and ISO). It works really well. As for your original question - I couldn't possibly tell whether a follow up to K-01 will come. I would say that it is possible but with rather low probability but it is just a guess. I use my cameras far too seldom, that's what. Liten kos means small hug or something similar. The fawn was still walking very unsteadily, so I think it was no more than a couple of hours old. Apparently, the hind had given birth on a field just next to Road 17, a major thoroughfare on the Northern Norway coastline. We originally stopped to photograph a buck on the same field, which probably was looking to mate with the hind (they're receptive just after giving birth). So we took off down a dirt road to see if we could get closer, and happened upon these two at a range of about 60 meters (shot made with K-5 and Sigma 500/4.5, and cropped a fair bit). We didn't advance further, and fortunately we didn't stress them much. Great experience. Thanks for looking and commenting, Chris. Re: Gearing up for California
One of the passes least likely to be open is 10,000ft Tioga on Hwy 120. It's the shortest route from Yosemite to Mono Lake, but a hairy steep series of switchbacks at the top followed by a steep shelf road to the bottom. Yes, I noticed the part about Tioga. I drew the conclusion that at such altitudes, weather will fluctuate more dramatically, so it's harder to predict how long the road stays open. I plan to do at least an attempt at hwy 120. West of Tioga there's still the places where the Rim Fire came close to the road, so I may get some interesting shots of the aftermaths of destruction. From my dim and distant memory, one of the most beautiful aspects of California is without doubt the coastline, as anyone who has ever travelled along Highway 1 will confirm. The cool sea breezes bring moist fog onto the shore by day and walking amongst the Sequoia and Redwood is not to be missed! This will be the last before I go West, and concludes just about all I’ve been up to this year, photographically. I thought it prudent to present them, since they triggered my lust to go and see the Sierras and hopefully some of the Nevada desert. The first eight are from the City of Petra. The next three are from the slopes between the Jordanian highland and the Dead Sea Valley. Re: GESO - Jordan
Petra is fascinating. I expected it to be, too. But I really liked the rest of the country as well. Hope they stay peaceful down there, with all the turmoil going on across their border. Jostein -Opprinnelig melding- From: Alastair Robertson they are all gorgeous as my 4 year old would say! -Opprinnelig melding- From: Steve Cottrell I can live without any tourists in the shots - - is that Elin ? Holy mackerel!!! :) She's growing up fast, isn't she? :) Simply super Jostein. I think it's time you treated yourself to an ultra wide angle for that 645D ! LOL you might actually flatter me into that one some day. These shots were taken with the K-5, tho. I have the DA 14mm to cover that base. Literally awesome work. Thanks mate. Re: The Australian fires.. PDML'ers down under check in if you can

Those helicopter pilots have big brass balls, flying directly over all that heat smoke in such windy conditions with a massive weight of water slung below. My hat goes off to them. My mother in law's partner has family in the Blue Mountains but the last I heard they are safe and well. Keep yourselves safe... I expect we may see a bit of haze over here in a few days time. It happens occasionally with the really big fires. Re: GESO - Jordan
-Opprinnelig melding- From: Ann Sanfedele You realize that you have made it very difficult for people to share nature shots here don't you? Ouch. all fine, and some just spectacular... and look ma, no HDR! Hate to disappoint you, Ann... All the Petra shots except #6 and #7 are HDR. The real-life contrast was just way beyond, so I had to.
