Re: HC110 preservation

2016-01-11 Thread P.J. Alling

They still do.

The recommended method of preserving HC110 is to work from the most
concentrated syrup, split original bottle, (16oz for example), into
smaller bottles, old fashioned 2 to 4 oz. brown glass medicine bottles,
are what I used to use, (wish I could find mine, I have a 16oz bottle of
vintage HC110 that needs to be split). Fill the smaller bottles up to
very top to minimize contact Oxygen and cap them tightly. When using up
one of the bottles you can drive off most of the Oxygen by replacing it
with a more inert gas, nitrogen would probably be best, but since that's
usually unavailable to me, I spray some derivative of Freon, sold as
DustOff, Dust Remover, or some such, into the top of the small bottle
before capping it. The new stuff isn't quite as non-reactive as Freon
used to be but it still beats free oxygen.

Your stock HC-110 or your diluted developer?

The main enemy of chemistry is air. They used to sell Air Evac bottles
that looked like round bellows that you could use to express any
excess air before screwing on the bottle lid, with the chemistry
inside at the edge of overflowing.

Other than that, I'm not sure what you can do.

KEH.com changed their website once again and it sux.

2016-01-11 Thread Bipin Gupta
Dear PJ, many of us find the new layout very annoying too.
KEH has used a professional web designer with instructions that
customers take a convoluted
route - look at every thing they have on offer - before arriving at their needs.
KEH thinks they may get a higher purchase rate if they make
prospective customers view the
wide range of products they have on offer.

It is like the design of our very own mirrorless Pentax K-01. Hated by
some, liked by some. And
I believe it had a world famous Designer.

So the saying goes every change is painful. Need not be so.

At the end, I like buying from them - honest prices and good clean
stuff. Great Service too.
Regards.
Bipin.

can also be carried like a shoulder bag. I see people in the files with packs 2

I'm about to "Peso" one that I wish I had taken in time, as I like it

Brook's 'CN Tower' really appealed to me.

Bruce was up to his usual tricks - top work but a warning, the link to

Others I particularly liked - Dario's sepia toned 'Woodpecker', Ken's

The second could have been my entry for this month's PUG... I like it
better than what I did submit.

https://annsan.smugmug.com/On-the-Road-or-On-Foot/2016-and-all-that/

These were all taken on one day - I had been uptown having yet another
freen lunch with a friend (the endless birthday feedings)

after lunch I took my NYC ID card to MOMA to get my free one year
membership - This is was good thing our mayor did -
Now I can afford to go to all the zoosand theacquarium, and the Bronx
and Brooklyn botanical gardens, and sundry other museums
(alas, the new WHITNEY is not on the list)... so perhaps I'll get more
shooting in this year than last , although getting about is

getting more tiring and the camera gets heavier every day.

anyway, comments appreciated. as posted there are only 5 photos - I
might add a coule more soon

Re: OT - Lowepro Nova Sport 35L AW bag on great sale ($10 or less)

2016-01-11 Thread Stanley Halpin
I bought the Nova Sport 35L AW at the special deal price. If it weren’t so
cheap I would send it back. As it is, I will keep it as a storage bag.

I have a LowePro backpack which is comfortable, holds most of my gear,
[including spare batteries, chargers, cords, etc.], has a well-padded slot for
a laptop, provision for strapping on a tripod. Just barely small enough (with
tripod removed) to fit under the seat of the small aircraft that get me from
here to a real airport with normal size planes. If I need extra space, I will
travel with a carry-on suitcase and carry a lens or two and/or my back-up hard
drives in a shoulder bag packed inside of the carry-on. However…

I have found that I really don’t like to work out of a backpack. So the
backpack is for travel, but once I arrive at a destination, for a given
day-trip I will usually carry camera in hand and a small selection of lenses in
my shoulder bag. Much like Mark C’s strategy of carrying everything with him in
the car, then selecting the day’s tool upon arrival. If it is gong to be a long
hike in and/or I am not sure which lenses I will be needing then I’ll use the
backpack. But mostly not.

For my shoulder bag I have an old Domke that I have had at least 10 years that
was old when I bought it used here on the List. I would like something just
slightly larger, and I was hoping the Nova Sport might be the answer, but it is
way larger than anything I want to be carrying around, even if it were empty
and weren’t filled with heavy gear.

So, my bag quest continues. It would be so nice to live near a place with a
large camera store with a broad range of gear that I could touch and feel and
evaluate in person rather than through a website image+specs…

I had signed up some time ago for a Pixsy invite but apparently missed
it when it came. However today I noticed a reminder email from them
and used the invitation. I am very impressed with their algorithm's
ability to find where your images are posted. I just fed them my

There were a lot of images that they found on places where I had
posted them (like forum.mflenses.com, pentaxforums.com, etc.) and
there were a lot of inexplicable false positives, they also found a
good number of actual unauthorized uses by businesses and

infringer, one case where the infringed usage of the image was
somewhat cropped, and another where it was used in a slider graphic

You can submit a claim with Pixsy and they will negotiate a licensing
fee with the infringer and pay the photographer 50%.

However, since they are new, I can't find any info on how much those
negotitated fees might actually be. So for now, I plan to use Pixsy
simply as my "bloodhound" and turn the infringements over to a real
copyright/photo attorney. It may be slower, but I don't think
attorney's charge THAT much unless they actually go to court, and
being attorneys I'll bet they get higher amounts than Pixsy will. (At

In addition to negotiation licenses, you can also quickly issue a DCMA

Hope someone finds this useful.

I like this very much, Ken! The angle features nicely the implied motion

rendering, but that's just personal preference.

Thanks once again for all your efforts in getting the PUG out Brian !

And thanks for mentioning my image 'Reflections from the Inside Passage'.

I really like your 'Waiting for Breakfast' - great colors, crispness and

G'day all.

A flurry of last minute submissions resulted in the largest PUG for some
time. Great work!

Most adopted the literal interpretation of the theme but Igor had a
slightly different approach. Nicely thought out!

There were quite a few reflected buildings - all excellent but Dave
Brook's 'CN Tower' really appealed to me.

Bruce was up to his usual tricks - top work but a warning, the link to
the 'Entire Set' of images may be NSFW.

Others I particularly liked - Dario's sepia toned 'Woodpecker', Ken's
'Reflections from the Inside Passage', Pat's 'Old Glass' and Pete's
'(No) Reflections: Shooting the Shooter'.

Fantastic work, all.

As usual you'll find the gallery here:

http://pug.komkon.org/

(you may need to refresh your browser if you see the previous gallery
there).

Note: The automated submission process usually works well but it's not
infallible. So, if you made a submission and you don't see it in the
gallery, let me know.

+

Next Up: "Black and White".

Full Submissions Guidelines here:

http://pug.komkon.org/general/autosubmit.html

You can submit here:

Cheers
