Nice collection. Good to see some of the sports observed around the world.
My favorite is Mark Robert's "Eric Bostrom at Mid Ohio".

THe standout for me this month is Bong's "Deep Darkness" - moody and

I like all the others equally - not a top sport missed as far as I can

You could make a pretty impressive gallery of all your door & window shots ...

I really like #26, which rather surprises me - I'm not a big fan of either
B&W or fogginess.

I'm a bit surprised, though, to see a couple of galleries from Masham with
no reference to Theakston and/or Black Bull!

The chair was pumped up too high... and the back was loose.. it wasn't
nicely balanced, like my remaining wheelies, but I also shouldnt ahve

Dusting? feh. a bit in the winter, hardly needed in the summer with all
the AC on... Since I don't smoke , and no one is allowed to in the
building, that helps too.

Sounds like you looked at more than the kitchen... a couple more chairs

I love that it is so varied! after I submitted mine I remembered I had
technically better stuff of a couple of other sports and from that event
too - Actually have attended a rodeo, certainly horse shows way way
back (but no good photos).

Bong's is stunning work (big surprise there) but it is posed. For this
theme Phillip's intense Australian Football shot made the deepest
impression.. and
Larry Wilkin's Beautiful Game came in next .. but liked the whole
gallery a lot, even though I'm not a team sports fan really.

Re: Masham

2017-02-06 Thread Bob W-PDML
Thanks. Well, yes, the idea was to have a cycling weekend in the Dales. This is
Tour de France country. I used to live in the area, and still have friends and
family in them there parts. We are a Yorkshire family. There are plenty of
people biking up there. Yorkshire people are made from millstone grit.

But last week I caught a cold, which has still not fully gone, so I decided to
do some walking instead. Spent one day at Hackfall Wood,
http://www.hackfall.org.uk/, where I got lost and had to walk an extra 4-5
miles to re-find myself, and another day just pottering about, up to the
Swinton Estate, which is where the Druid's Temple (fake Stonehenge) is - I've
posted pictures from there before. It's a lovely area, one of the wealthiest in
the country.

Salon de coiffure pour hommes

2017-02-06 Thread Bob W-PDML
Found this chap while pottering about this weekend. He's been cutting hair here
for over 70 years, and is deaf as a post, but full of stories. Since I'm also
pretty deaf the conversation mostly consisted of us shouting "Pardon? I can't
hear you! What?" At each other.

Between barely stifled giggles, my friend asked him if he'd cut my hair. He
said "He hasn't got any!"

Anyway, I had my hair, such as it is, cut for the second time in as many weeks;
it cost £3.50. He refused to look at the camera for portraits.

give it the "sleek" look, however, they how removed a lot of head room

from

the rear seat. Getting in the rear seat in awkward, and getting out damn
uncomfortable. Really not much better than trying to exit the rear

"seat"

of the Mustang.

Opening the trunk and the gas tank door are both unusual and tricky. I
don't think I have ever succeeded on the first try. The instruments are
part analog and part digital, and totally confusing. The electronics for
radio and cell phone are simply old fashioned. Even the seat belts are
difficult to operate. The trunk is adequate, but not what I had expected
from the size of the car. I am really wondering how I am going to get

four

passengers and luggage for three into it when I take my wife and her
friends to the airport in a couple of weeks.

I wonder why our government even thought it reasonable to bail out a
company which doesn't seem to understand what consumers want and need.

End of rant. We now return you to our regular programming.

February PUG is up!

2017-02-06 Thread Brian Walters
G'day all,

THe standout for me this month is Bong's "Deep Darkness" - moody and
intimidating - with Mark's "Eric Bostrom at Mid-Ohio" as next favourite.

I like all the others equally - not a top sport missed as far as I can
tell.

As usual you'll find the gallery here:

(you may need to refresh your browser if you see the previous gallery
there).

Note: The automated submission process usually works well but it's not
infallible. So, if you made a submission and you don't see it in the
gallery, let me know.

Next up: 'Geometric SHapes in Nature'

Storage wars

2017-02-06 Thread Bipin Gupta
The greatest havoc is caused by Hard Disk Failure. You loose 1 to 4 TB
of Photos at the click of your thumb.
But you loose only a few GBs on a failed DVD. Generally CDs from the
80s & 90s & recent DVDs + Blu Ray Discs should play fine
assuming you have not scratched them.

So here comes the 1000 year M-Disc - archival disks - literally in
destructible. How?? Normal CDs & DVDs have Organic Dyes in them that
fade or destruct making them unreadable in Disc Players over time. You
get M-Discs in capacities upto a 100 GB and the prices are falling.

The data layer on M-Discs are indestructible highly polished rock
pieces. I bought a 4K Toshiba Laptop in Toronto 3-years ago with a Blu
Ray Recordable Drive. Using the Free ImgBurn Software I can burn the
M-Disc - pretty fast & sweet - no failures so far.

I bought a pack of 5 x 25 GB Verbatim M-Discs a year ago for US $
17.71 with Free Shipping.

As to that thousand-year claim, the U.S. Navy will back that up. It
tested M-Disc DVD+Rs along with archival quality DVD+R/RW and
DVD-R/RW, subjecting them three times to a 185 degree, 85-percent
humidity, full-spectrum light environment for 26.25 hours. Every DVD
failed—except the M-Discs, which suffered no noticeable degradation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-DISC
http://www.mdisc.com/
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2933478/storage/m-disc-optical-media-reviewed-your-data-good-for-a-thousand-years.html

Suggest please try them. Just Google which Blu Ray Recorder can burn
M-Discs. You even get portable USB Blu Ray Burners for under US $ 40.

Regards.

Re: Paddling on the Pacific

2017-02-06 Thread Daniel J. Matyola
Thanks, Alan.

The whales are big -- 40 tons or so -- but generally peaceful. They
migrate each year from Alaska to Hawai'i each year, a trip of 6,000 miles.
They eat nothing from the time they leave Alaska until they return. In
Hawai'i, they give birth, train the calves, and mate. They are easily
approachable, although it is illegal to approach closer than 100 yards.
Closer encounter happen when ships idle their engines and let the whales
approach.
