Re: PESO: For Ken Waller

2017-04-22 Thread Ken Waller

I get these guys all the time, but mostly on my seed feeders.
The suet is mostly vivited by woodpeckers - Downy, Hairy and Red-bellied.

What seed do you use?

I put out thistle and black oilers in different feeders and get a different
variety of birds at each - also get squirrels!

The Sumo, now sans rack and with blinky lights fore and aft:

I decided to go with backpack only and ditched the rack. And then the gear
that goes into the small backpack and on my body:

Just enough for the 10 mile round trip and breakfast stop this morning.

Re: PESO 2017 - earth day ride 1&2 - GDG

2017-04-22 Thread Godfrey DiGiorgi
I don't need to carry the iPad, but I do almost always have it with me. It has
whatever book I'm reading on it when I'm sitting somewhere waiting for people
to show up or just taking a break. Or even movies for the same purpose. I can
do some writing, or drawing, or web surfing, or working some photos, etc etc,
with it at need or whim. It's my most useful communications tool, moreso than
the phone.

The rucksack or a larger backpack suit me better than bags attached to the bike
or panniers, I've found. I'm sure that could change if I get into doing longer
rides or touring, but I'll see where I am when I get past my current 'recovery
and retraining' mode. :-)

I think this particular bit has been recently rebuilt, as it's looking a
bit too clean and new.

The area is just off a Roman road called Akeman Street which was the
road that lay between Cirencester (pronounced 'sirensester') in
Gloucestershire (pron 'glostersheer') and St. Albans in Hertfordshire.
The actual path is on a short offshoot of the main road about 1/4 mile away.

It's pretty cool to walk along and realise that many centuries earlier
there would have been horses and carts trundling along the same place at
the same pace. I wonder how many would have stopped at a vista and
pulled out paper and chalk to record the view?
