update kept the re ply from going to the list...

As for the photo - it's done as far as I'm concerned. I got a bunch of
much worse photos waiting to be posted!

Ditto, what she said. Double.

For me, the fence, because it is parallel to the viewer and is not a
leading line, doesn't add much. Truck? Maybe. I think it would have been
a great photo without fence and without truck. Just sky and house and
barn and lots and lots of field. But preference given to the sky.

Re: July PUG is up

2017-07-04 Thread Igor PDML-StR

That's a beatiful gallery!

Having known PDMLers (with so many punsters) for so many years, I am
surprised by the fact that there was no other interpretation of the theme:

1) other types of "leaves"
or
2) a singular 3rd-person form of the verb "to leave".

(I was tempted to do so, but didn't have time or energy to find or shoot
some reasonable photo for that.)

Cheers,

Igor

There are also some great art deco era murals inside. But I was shooting it

Ann, on the header of an email to the right of the reply button, right
click and choose customize, it should be the only choice you get.

That will open the tool pallet.

Click on the reply button, and drag it to the pallet.

Close the pallet.

The straight reply button is now on the pallet.

The smart reply which is now the only visible reply button will work
more or less properly, so it will default to reply list if you're
looking at a mail list email, and it will reply to an individual if
the email is from an individual. You'll also have the option of
replying to the person who sent the email to the list by clicking the
down arrow.

It's almost as good as if the reply button wasn't broken.

I like the way the bloom fill the frame -- and then some.

Personally, I would prefer it without the insect, especially since it is
not a very interesting insect, based on what we can see of it.

With or without the insect, it is a superior image.

Re: Strange thing

2017-07-04 Thread P. J. Alling
Along with bug fixes, a lot of the Thunderbird updates are to fix
security issues.

No one wants to acknowledge security holes in their software, so unless
it's one that's become an actual problem with a documented exploit, it
probably won't be mentioned in the release notes.

I hate to bow to an arrogant SOB of a developer who introduces a bug and
through ignorance and due to just plain pigheadedness refuses to admit
he's wrong, but falling back to a previous version, probably isn't the
best idea, unless something more serious is broken.

As I said I removed the "regular" reply button from the in message
toolbar and haven't accidentally replied off list since. The smart reply
button works the way you'd expect it to if the regular reply button
isn't there.

Re: Ready for the Hookah.

2017-07-04 Thread P. J. Alling
Not to make excuses, since the major problem was my fault, but I had set
the ISO for 160, I should have bumped that up to 800 or so based on the
light conditions. So exposure speed was about 1/5 second. There was
probably some subject movement, and some photographer movement that the
SR system couldn't entirely compensate.

As for the framing there were distracting elements on the right hand
side of the frame, which I composed around, and I ended up cropping
quite a bit anyway.

There are times when I wish for a "fast" normal zoom in the 16-50mm
range, but I still haven't found the one I actually want to own or pay
full price for.

Re: July PUG is up

2017-07-04 Thread Bruce Walker
Lots to like indeed.

I love the quiet simplicity in so many of these. Frost on leaves is a
fave of mine, so David Mann;'s and Henk's especially appeal to me. I'm
a sucker for the textures in Hosta, so I really appreciated Bill
Robb's image. A 27 image stack of K-1 shots must have been a monster
to process! :)

Fine work all around.

Re: PESO - Down In Indiana

Mark - I think you misunderstood... when I said the sky is is the thing
for me, I meant the sky _makes_ the photo... don't you go messin with
that sky :-)

in my eye, that is the center of interest

Thanks Ann. Coming back to this image tonight I'm seeing the dark
clouds in the upper left to be a problem - competing for the center of
interest but also not so much conveying the sense of the approaching
storm. (I was blowing like mad when I took the shot so in my mind the
sense of the storm coming up is very real, but I'm not just looking at
the photo.) But the only way to mitigate the cloud is to go to a weird
crop, like 16:9

Is your truckless frame the same in all other regards? would like to
see that

Thanks, Marne. I think you are right about the competing centers of

try a shot with just the fence, no truck, since I don't have one

think there is enough going on in the image.

Great sky.

I usually love your shots, it's strange to me to say I have some
quibbles. Something about the placement of the barn, re fence and
passing truck isn't pleasing to me. (Too many focal points? Not sure.)

I would have walked closer to the fence to leave it out. (I'd say
crop it, but don't think it can be done now. At least not without
cloning.)

Take with a grain of salt, Marnie aka Doe :-)

It was late at night, I was tired, (I seem to post a lot like that), at
least I wasn't drunk. At least, I don't think I was.

Ann, on the header of an email to the right of the reply button, right
click and choose customize, it should be the only choice you get.

That will open the tool pallet.

My gammar-nazi heart wants to do something with this; my
you-should-be-on-your-way-to-work brain says I should let it lie.

Click on the reply button, and drag it to the pallet.

Close the pallet.

The straight reply button is now on the pallet.

The smart reply which is now the only visible reply button will work
more or less properly, so it will default to reply list if you're
looking at a mail list email, and it will reply to an individual if the
email is from an individual. You'll also have the option of replying
to the person who sent the email to the list by clicking the down arrow.

It's almost as good as if the reply button wasn't broken.

G'day all,

A smaller gallery this month but lots to like.

As usual you'll find the gallery here:

(you may need to refresh your browser if you see the previous gallery there).

Note: The automated submission process usually works well but it's not
infallible. So, if you made a submission and you don't see it in the gallery,
let me know.

Next up: 'City Transportation'.

A walnut tree (slightly off topic for semantic reasons, as the camera
was a Ricoh!).

A short blog entry on Eudora Welty's book "Photographs" (again,
slightly off topic for lacking Pentax as she has primarily used a
Rolleiflex).
