Re: PPG is back online
Sorry, Dan, I didn't read that message. I saw that it was working and wanted to alert those PDMLers who were concerned in the past few days. As for the rest, - it looks like PPG is not among Ricoh marketing team priorities for Pentax brand. It looks more like a liability at this point: they are afraid to cut it off completely (infuriating many Pentaxians), but they also don't want to spend any resources for support and moderation. PPG was Asahi-Pentax's project that doesn't generate any direct revenue, and it became an unloved step-child of Ricoh. (I suspect that most if not all of the PPG team have been long gone or moved to different roles.) PPG was essentially a PR attempt for Pentax. I suspect, that it might not have been very successful from the business' point of view. I don't know if Asahi-Pentax or Ricoh had/has any measure of the popularity of that website, and of how much exposure it gets, -- to judge if it is worth their efforts. Also, I am not a marketing specialist, - so I don't know how such things could be measured (if at all). I have a thought that if Pentax or Ricoh had bought one of the popular photo-hosting services (photo.net, flickr, ..) and used a portion of that platform to develop a separate Pentax-branded community (such as PPG), - they could've had a better chance for success and exposure. But at the same time, that is a totally different area of business. Obviously, Pentax wasn't prepared to diversify (too narrowly focused company, with only a few product categories). Ricoh might be in a better position, given the variety of products and services they provide. Anyway,... Stay cool, be happy! Igor Daniel J. Re: PESO Silver-studded blue
No, they were just trying to detract from inflated prices! I did some research: In Dutch & Afrikaans, an apostrophe is used if the singular word ends in a unstressed vowel to keep the sound long. If I understand this correctly, Panoramas would sound like "Panoramis" whereas Panorama's would sound like "Panoramaz". An Afrikaans plural which springs to mind is kano's, the plural of kano (canoe).
