re: Beware New eBay Scam

2006-07-12 Thread Roman
Wasn't that the same thing with egold just few years ago and some stupid
attempts till today. Just be careful where you go, and always see what
actual link status line shown. You may even Righclick - Properties to
see where this link gets you. If it's not eBay.com long side many
subdomains under ebay.com, then don't click it. The trick is to mail
message using strong language. And oh that temper, you click back
withough thinking consequences. Think first.

Next level of scams will be keyboard-robots recording your keyboard
codes as you type in passwords. It's all have been there with Internet
Explorer and ecurrency providers. All of them, especially loved egold.com.

I just got a fake eBay message from a supposed buyer threatening to
report me to eBay if I don't answer his question. It looks just like
the regular eBay messages with a Respond Now button. The item in
question does not exist. Not sure what would happen if I would have
bit on it, but it was initially pretty compelling. The message was
worded like this:

Hey, listen buddy, i don't know what kind of game are you playing
with me. If you don't answer me i'll be forced to report you at ebay
and i assure you that you will be suspended from ebay. This is the
final warning.
cata2000x

I suspect that the link to respond would take you to some fake login
that would perhaps reveal your real login for use by these losers.
Anyhow just thought I'd give a heads up to others in the PDML.

Re: Beware New eBay Scam

2006-07-12 Thread Ann Sanfedele
Just remember if it is a question from ebay member your full
real name will be included
in the email - none of the spoof mails have that.

Of course, if it is a question about something you aren't
selling it is pretty clear :):)
the spoofers seem to have hi-jacked legit sellers handles.

Re: Beware New eBay Scam

2006-07-11 Thread Jon Myers
One quick way to pick up on something like that being
fake - What would have tipped me off is the Respond
Now button. I don't think Ebay puts that in emails
any more - there's just a grayed out box saying
Respond to this in 'My Messages', and it's not even
a link.

Same here. If Ebay needs to contact me, they can do it through the 'My

2006-07-11 Thread Bob Sullivan
Jay,

I got a similar message out of the UK.
When I tried to look for the sender, it said that AOL user was busy.
When I clicked the Respond Now button, it asked for a log-in.
That's when I quit.

The easy way to check those is on your My Ebay.
It lists your My Messages.
When I check, nothing was no message.

If you get an email from eBay or PayPal that asks you to click on a
link, and you haven't specifically requested it, rest assured it is
fraudulent. I spend several hours a day running down these 'phishing' scams.
