I'll go Paul one better. Tell Pentax it is a known flaw in the D and they should foot all or most of the bill for repair. Regards, Bob S. Could someone elaborate on the known flaw please? Re: Known flaw (was Fix or retire istD)
The only known flaw that I'm aware of is that they act flaky when the voltage gets low, and they don't like it when the batteries in the grip are not matched well with those in the body. But I believe Dave's problems go well beyond that. I've owned two D cameras, still have one, and the only problems i've encountered were when the batteries were nearly dead. That would cause intermittent lockups or generally weird behavior. If Nimh batteries are used, care must be taken to ensure that all the cells are good and equally charged. I've always used AA lithiums. That makes it worry free. Paul On Dec 23, 2006, at 5:46 AM, John Whittingham wrote: I'll go Paul one better. If and when they return my call, it is Christmas time after all:-), i'll run that option. This is Erins camera, but i;m still awaiting word on my istD with the wonky flash, black screen complaint. I sent it to them 1 day before warranty was up, so hopefully thats covered.I thought i bought 2 extra years, not one, D'oh. Now that i have the K10D, i don't need two istD's as i have the Nikons aswell. Each are used for different things though. Dave Quoting Paul Stenquist [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Hmmm, close call. Re: Known flaw (was Fix or retire istD)
Correct there Paul. It happend to Erin, i didi not beleive her, just thought she had a setting wrong, but then it happened to me, with fresh batteries, chargables and fresh liths. Totally dead, nothing worked, then it didi then it didn;t. No af no metering, then it would then it shut down on its own, etc. The repair estimate is wriiten up so that its difficult to follow, and it takes little to confuse me. I'm really not sure what repairs are for the camera, or lens, as they both refer to boards and circutry Thus my call to them.:-) I';ll dedide after they call back but i think i may fix it and hope to get that money back, and at least sell a working camera. If the FA 70-200 is really $250 to fix, i won't bother, as they can be found for 1/2 that, and sell as a parts lens Dave Quoting Paul Stenquist [EMAIL PROTECTED]: The only known flaw that I'm aware of is that they act flaky when the voltage gets low, and they don't like it when the batteries in the grip are not matched well with those in the body. Re: Known flaw (was Fix or retire istD)
Thanks Guys I thought for a moment it was some catastrophic disaster that strikes them. I'm using energiser NiNH at the moment 2300mah (came free with a 15 minute charger) and 2500mah. I was reading the thread regarding rechargable Lithium but unsure whether to try them if they're not recommended by Pentax. The only slight problem I've encountered with the D is sometimes the AF doesn't work after switching from manual focus, but as this is usually on or about a lens change from K to F or FA I figured a dirty contact or the lens not mounted correctly, re-mounting the the lens cured the problem. I had it on the D,sitting on the dock, by the bay.vbg at the camp this past October, taking pictures of my buddies dog in the water. Its a floating dock, and he got up to get something, which tilted the dock to my right. The rear leg of the plastic chair broke and i fell backwards, putting my hand out as instict would . Unfortunatly the hand had a camera in it, and the lens took the hit, full force, on the dock and bend the inner barrel quite a bit. I paid $125.00 for it, so i don;t want to pay $250 to fix it. Could be a good parts lens of maybe someone might want to try and fix it. I don;t want a papaer weight, but if i can sell it as a proper woprking camera, thats great. Just not sure if its worth fixingand trying to sell/. Even a break even is fine. Yes, you might do that. Although in most D cameras, it's only a problem if you have bad batteries. Of my two D cameras, I've never had a serious problem with shutdown or bad battery capacity indications. Paul On Dec 22, 2006, at 10:13 PM, Bob Sullivan wrote: Dave, I'll go Paul one better.
