I love the colours, the composition and the minimalism. But the harsh
microcontrast makes it difficult for me to relax to the wall.

Re: Peso - Manhattan Minimalism II - the black and white version

2012-07-15 Thread Ann Sanfedele

Interesting..
I darkened the black area a bit to make sure it was totally featureless
and black , actually. I couldnt see any detail in it at all, although
when I went to use the magic wand in elements apparently the program did
as it selected two sections of the black mass.

I still can't see anything but black there in the photo as it is now.
But then, I don't have the brightness of my monitor set at 100 - because
I can't look at it at all if I do and when the power was getting

browned out last week it flickered. I upped it to 100 and think i see
what you mean.

If you can see that, I guess I should put it back in elements :-)

Well it did me when I shot it, but more the reflection of it in the
buildings windows and the geometry - and yet I kind of just pointed up
from where I was sitting because I couldn't find anything more
interesting and I hadn't taken any photos recently ;-)

I like the bw version better because it has an aura of being a bit
ominous and that reflects my opinion of buildings of this sort...
well at least it isn't boring

Love the geometry in this shot plus the contrast between the dark area
to the left and the lighter building. To my eye the BW version works
better - color is kind of a distraction from the main visual elements.

While I like them both, I think the color version shows the open tones
on the black monolith to the left. The BW may be more abstract if
that was your goal. It also might be a tougher call in a print.

I agree with Jack, and I'd also like the slight convergence of the
horizontals (perspective distortion) to be corrected; much like
horizon tilts, small perspective effects are more distracting to me
than large ones. Unfortunately you may not have enough room at the
edge of the frame to achieve the correction.

Depends on the theme employed. Some Posterous pages go on and on and on
and on ...
and eventually cause me to have to restart Safari to let go of about 2
gigs of RAM that it's sucked up. I've seen some good Posterous sites though.

Speaking of minimalism, I'm really beginning to appreciate the tumblr
sites like this one ...
