Re: [Phono-L] [78-L] Edison Special Amberols discussion

2013-11-09 Thread Ryan Barna
Actually, Edison released new Blue Amberol recordings from 1912-1913 with
flat rims, not just wax Amberol masters. The beveled Blue Amberols came out
in October 1913 (to the best of my searching ability), and Edison continued
reissuing wax Amberol masters with beveled rims into the late 1920s.

Excellent! Any ideas on why some are flat and some beveled? I'll dive
 into
the EPMs for clues as well. Did you touch on them in any of your books?

Thanks. Great to hear from you.

You are quite correct, Charlie. The degradation in sound is from the
dubbing.

Hi Ron: My two cents. Some of the beveled ended BA's sound just as good as
the flat tops.Namely all of them up to about 2470 which are still live.
There were also some live recordings released sporadically from when
dubbing took over until 1928. One Special recording ( the Peerless Minstrels
one,I think it's Special H) was re released around 1927 as An old time
minstrel show! I always enjoy the posts! Best,Charlie.

[Phono-L] Recommendation for 78rpm Blues collectors

2013-11-09 Thread Srsells1

Hi all! (I'm cross posting this message)

Every year, in my column - Anything Phonographic in In The Groove I
review the annual Classic Blues Artwork from the 1920s calendar CD that
collector John Tefteller has published. The 2014 one is out now and BIGGER
than
before.

Since my next publish column will not be till March 2014 I wanted to share
my review with those of you who collect blues 78s. It also makes a great
gift for a fellow collector who does collect this genre.

Here is the link to the review:

it's great that he shares records he pays thousands of dollars for)
