RE: [pinhole-discussion] Panorama printing question static

2002-12-31 Thread I Zarkov
Yes, using a larger format enlarger is the solution. I have been using an
Omeda D2V for years, had a mask cut at a machine shop as an insert plate for
the 4x5 negative carrier and print 3 35mm frame sequences. Works great for
sequential frames or panoramic compositions. You might try handling your
film on anti-stat mats that are grounded as are used in computer repair
situations or perhaps wiping the film with an anti-stat cloth prior to
loading into your cameras might reduce static.

God bless the master of this house and the mistress also,
And the little children that round your table grow,
The cattle in your stable, the dog by your front door,
And all that dwell within your gates, we wish you ten times more

A happy, peace-filled and productive year to all.

Peter

RE: [pinhole-discussion] Panorama printing question static

2002-12-31 Thread drew
You need to use a larger format enlarger with a masked neg holder to
print them traditionally. I can only print my 35mm panorama shots up to
my enlargers limit of a 6x7 carrier masked off. Finding a 4x5 or 8x10
enlarger would be key.

So, I did some pinhole photos using 2 cans and got some panoramic shots.
The
film was too long to put in my neg holder for my scanner. And that
brought
up a question. How would I even print this? It wouldn't fit into my heg
holder for my enlarger.. . So it seems laying it on the scanner bed and
scanning it is the only way I could? I had to put a scratched up piece
of
plexiglass on top of it to hold it flat. . . .

Here are my pinholes:
The first one is from a tea can (62mm focal length), the other 2 from a
holiday can (87mm focal length)

g

pg
http://www.bonkersfiber.com/photos/pinhole/bluecancemetery.jpg

The first one (when enlarged) has a lot of dust and hair in it--this was
not
on the negative, but was part of the negative. So, I think the static
must
have made the debris cling to the film when I was loading it into my
can.
Does anyone else have this problem? What can you do about it? It wasn't
as
noticeable in the other 2.

RE: [pinhole-discussion] Polaroid Transfer

2002-12-31 Thread drew
Nope you need the two part peel apart film which comes in several sizes.
Old Polaroid land cameras can be found for under $10 that use the
3.5x4.25 peel part pack film.

Moving up you need a 4x5 polaroid back to process the 4x5 sheet film,
8x10 is also available but you need a whole big processor to run the
sheets through.

http://www.pacificsites.com/~hdupre/trans.html

that is a great online source for film and process info.

I want to try and learn how to use image transfer with my pinhold camera
but
can I try using this camera first. Will this type of film work?

Thanks.

I just haven't been very impressed with my Epson Perfection 1200, but
the 2450 does an excellent job!

Are you using the cans that 35mm bulk loaded film comes in? Or the black
plastic ones a roll of film comes in?

[pinhole-discussion] A Happy Year of Pinholin' to You

2002-12-31 Thread Tom Miller
Dear All,

It is midday here with the sun shining brightly over a cool ( -9 C)
but snowless landscape. One year of pinholin' is drawing to a close
and another dawning brightly on the time horizon.

The 2002 Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day was a tremendous success,
with 902 folks from 35 countries contributing to the celebration's
exhibit www.pinholeday.org/gallery. Now we're less than four months
from the next celebration on April 27, 2003. Some related events are
already scheduled with many others in the works; the press release is
being ironed out; the web site is being prepared for 2003; the gallery
gift shop is open.

In Alice in Wonderland, the March Hare and Mad Hatter celebrated
un-birthdays every day of the year but one. We're lucky to have this
discussion list as our ongoing un-PinholeDay celebration. And yet
there is nothing like the main event on April 27. Please consider
participating in the 2003 WPPD celebration by organizing or attending
a workshop; a get-together with friends for a tiny aperture shoot on
Pinhole Day; or create your own solo flight. Then watch the
internet's premier exhibit of pinhole photography unfold through the
end of May!

From my heart and on behalf of the entire 2003 WPPD Coordinating
Committee: A Happy New Year of Pinholin' to you and yours!!

Tom Miller (USA - team leader)
  Gregg Kemp (USA)
  Zernike Au (Hong Kong)
  Ed Levinson (Japan)
  Rosanne Stutts (USA)
  Jean Daubas (France)
  Guillermo Penate (Canada)
  Guy Glorieux (Canada)
  Bill Erickson (USA)

P.S. A special thanks to Gregg Kemp, who's expertise and dedication
makes the discussion list and WPPD exhibit possible.
