I had pretty good luck with Netgear ProSafe PoE; the model I used was GS724TP. It's managed and definitely SOHO. I have no distinct memory of time-to-power, but I don't recall long waits. I cannot find any specs in a quick Google search, but that line might be worth investigating. -- Paul Heinlein heinl...@madboa.com 45°22'48" N, 122°35'36" W
Re: [PLUG] switch with Fast Boot PoE
I cannot test it - my POE+ switch is remote to me - so I cannot measure time to power. That said when setting it up - I have pretty strong feeling that the power came instantaneously (1 sec or less) with this cheap switch: https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-5-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-Unmanaged/dp/B08 LHL1Q2Z/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=HIGJCU14KW6Q=netgear%2Bpoe%2Bswit ch%2B5%2Bport=1647629616=netgear%2Bpoe%2Caps%2C87=8-2- spons=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzRU9JSEhGQU1CRzUxJmVuY3J5cHRlZElk PUEwNzA4NDc4MlQxSDZPTk9EVUg2NyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwMDc4NDgzNFJBVjNRUTB LVlZZJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2 xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ=1 They have managed version for about 2x$$ as well as POE++ for about $60-ish I cannot say anything negative about it. -Tomas PS: Wish I could get UBNT version for similar $$. I do have UBNT POE+, but they are more expensive, take about half minute to boot (not sure if the power comes out faster) and are unobtainable these days - so not really useful to you right now. [PLUG] switch with Fast Boot PoE
Hi, For a project I'm working on we have a need for a switch with PoE+ that will power the ports quickly, say less than 15 seconds after power up. The switch that is currently specified is a Cisco cbs250-16P-2g. This switch takes at least a minute, if not more, to enable power to the ports. With a bit of searching I discovered that some Cisco switches have a pair of features called Perpetual PoE and Fast Boot PoE. We don't have a need for Perpetual PoE, but Fast Boot PoE seems to fit our needs. Some other vendors have a similar sounding feature. So far I have only seen this offered on higher end switches(Cisco, Juniper, etc.). Does anyone know of any switches that are more in the SOHO class that have this type of feature? Note that we need some management features available via telnet, so this precludes using an unmanaged switch. thanks, galen -- Galen Seitz gal...@seitzassoc.com

I learned from Mediasonic tech support both that eSATA is a dead technology no longer being developed and that the one PCIe card that works with the Probox is no longer manufactured although Newegg still has some for sale. The one I ordered from Amazon supports only Windows. I tried cancelling today's delivery. If that fails I'll return it and the eSATA cables. Mediasonic recommends sticking with USB 3.0 and that's what I'll do. There's always something new for an end user to learn; that's a good thing. Carpe weekend, all, Rich
