Re: [Ql-Users] QX40
The QXL software (SMSQ/E) is available from Dilwyns website too, directly underneath the manual download...on the link I posted earlier. It's 153k in size. After that, there's tons of freeware available on Dilwyns site too. You likely got confused with the Q40 and Q60. You definitely have a QXL. Darren. Re: [Ql-Users] QX40
I have the original software called SMSQ somewhere at home - I'll search for it when I get home. There is a more modern version of the operating system software called SMSQ/E, the 'e' standing for 'enhanced'. Main difference being that it has the 'pointer environment' windowing system included. A bit like good old QDOS with pointer environment, but much improved and enhanced. This is available free of charge these days. It is available to download and use from of charge from the Wolfgang Lenerz website at https://www.wlenerz.com/smsqe/ (make sure you use the QXL version - it exists for several systems) There's not much by way of instruction there, so you may have to return here for further help. Sadly I don't have a QXL these days so I might not be the best to try to help. If you aren't already on the QL Forum www.qlforum.co.uk I'd highly recommend joining there - great bunch of helpful QL guys - it's free to join but you will need to create an account to be able to post anything there. QX40 as there was a machine called the Q40 you cleverly joined them both up! Re: [Ql-Users] QX40
Yes, it's definitely a QXL card... made by the late Stuart Honeyball of Miracle Systems. The ports are for the QL network as Graeme said... to connect to other QXLs or standard QLs. A standard 3.5mm double ended jack cable is used. The full manual is available free online at Dilwyns site, under the documentation section. https://dilwyn.qlforum.co.uk/docs/manuals/index.html Darren. Re: [Ql-Users] QX40
Hi Ian! The card you are referring to would be the 'QXL'. Those two 3.5mm sockets allow you to connect to the standard QL Network. The DOS binary for the QXL includes the SMS(Q/e) binary that runs on the card itself and the latest version can be found alongside the other SMSQe distributions on Wolfgang Lenerz's site (sorry, don't have the link to hand, but easy to Google for.) The QXL (and it's slightly souped up big sister, the QXL II) is a nice bit of kit and worth the effort! Good luck :-) On Sat, 30 Sept 2023, 12:32 silcreval via Ql-Users, < ql-users@lists.q-v-d.com> wrote: > Hello all, > > After a few decades ? - I decided to see if I can get my QL running again. > Unfortunately it has multiple issues, which I'll get to at some point. > > I remembered though I had an ISA card called I believe a QX40? Hmm not sure where I got QX40 on - thats the label I stuck on the card. On the reverse of the card it says 'Miracle Systems Ltd QXL 2B' I found a few hits for that, but still no software. It looks like the 'sockets' are for the QL network. ___ QL-Users Mailing List
[Ql-Users] QX40
Hello all, After a few decades ? - I decided to see if I can get my QL running again. Unfortunately it has multiple issues, which I'll get to at some point. I remembered though I had an ISA card called I believe a QX40? I do remember vaguely using this, probably in the 90s at some point. I've dusted it off and its now installed in an old Athlon PC that happened to have an ISA slot. I've got DOS installed and all seems good. However I have struggled to find the software. I do have the original disks but they are unreadable. I've had a look around the net but not really found any hits for this device. Any clues pointers? One thing that is a bit mysterious with the QX40 card is there are two 3.5mm (?) sockets on the rear panel. Any idea what they are for? Thanks. Ian ___ QL-Users Mailing List
