Ah ok, I'll keep searching then, I'm sure I've got a QL Quill somewhere. I
remember it because it's not in the usual cassette case, more of a foamy
plastic box. Trouble is, it's in here somewhere! *waves arms around*

Anyway, I have a working copy of Speccy Quill A06 and 1984 has just come
flooding back to me when I was writing bad adventures :)

Hi Rich,

I've got a Spectrum version or two and I think a QL version, Tim mentioned
yesterday he'd got his QL copy running as well as an Atmos copy.

Hi Duncan,

I know Dave @ Tynemouth and have a couple of his PET addons, if the keyboard
interface is of the same quality then it'll be sweet. He has the boards
professionally made and hand-solders the components, the original
keymappings were also hand-coded so there shouldn't be any problems.

14's easy, it's one of my older QL pictures featuring a 512k Expanderram.
That has a throughport on it so add something like a Medic and you have a
hells of a long machine!
16 is a PSU for a Grundy Newbrain that's been QL-ified
I might be right in guessing that 1 and 21 go together - that's the same
backplane isn't it, meaning the case is a QXT640...

ago that seemed to have had its chips removed with a lump hammer

I'm not yet 40, (9 months to go) and missed the QL revolution at the time
because I'd gone all Amiga 500 thanks to work-based cheap deals. Of course
I've made up for that these days but still haven't moved out of the 'stock'
QL arena purely because I don't have room to set up and use any more
machines on a daily basis.
 
 Unlike all of my mid-90s PC floppies, which are thoroughly dead. That (Sir)
 Clive Sinclair, he knew a thing or two... despite being panned at the time.

Must admit, I don't get many unreadable microdrive carts, though thanks to
Tony F I've got several working 3.5 floppy interfaces and drives to keep me
going..

It's at this point that I admit that that song was concocted by a couple of my 
mates earlier this year; it even got a mention on the BBC 6Music radio

Heh,

Ta for that! Nice timing too, because today I found something that I thought
was QL dongle related and lo and behold you've got one pictured for Dec 05 -
it's the bottom twin-ROM one. Sadly no ROMs or case present but if it's a
real 1st edition type 'oops we can't fit all the code internally' dongle
I'll be well chuffed. It was found near a box of chips that contained
EEPROMs and a WD1770 chip so if there's early code to be had it may well be
in that box. 

The label on the board says 'QLF2 8000 B45A'

 It is interesting to see it was clearly intended as a 
 standard QL add-on, as it has two slots. It is also very 
 professionally made.  The QL of course was designed 
 originally for 32k ROM, and 32k rom slot.

Showing my ignorance here, but I don't remember anyone doing ROM software
for the QL that needed a ROM cartridge, so were all these boards purely for
dongle purposes and nothing else? If so I'll have to get back to that box
and get all the EEPROMs out of it.

I'm an exiled-ish Geordie lurker since I only live in Newcastle at the
weekends, and I did a 'proper' version of the Windaz2000 email that went
round a few years ago :) Not sure if I've got time to regionalise browsers
though - I'm a Moz Firefox user and have been since v0.6 or thereabouts.
Fantastic browser because it's fast, small and above all, free but with a
lot of behind the scenes developers. Opera takes up too much real estate for
me
