Re: [Ql-Users] Website makeover
After a lot of prompting from my son, Iwan, I have finally got around to giving my website a bit of a makeover. I realise I'm risking a little after the problems I had with it in the last week (the message form works now!), but I do hope this will be worth it. I've tried to give the site a more modern and fresh look, without affecting the content too much. Good job! Thanks to the CSS work you've done last year it was not that hard, wasn't it? Urs No. The style sheet changes let me change a lot of things very quickly. Meaning I can spend more time on the QL contents, less on the maintenance of appearance etc. The only niggling bit is that Firefox browsers seem to ignore the font setting (sans-serif fonts specified but it always uses Times New Roman). I made a conscious decision to keep the HTML as simple as I could, apart from a small bit of php for the message form, plus mostly small pictures to try to make sure pages are quick loading. The grey strips etc are just table backings, for example (amazing what you can achieve in HTML layouts with just simple tables!). Like I said before, it was pressure from my son which made me do this. He helped me a lot with the design to try to update the boring old fashioned look, as he put it. Re: [Ql-Users] Website makeover
Evening Dilwyn, No. The style sheet changes let me change a lot of things very quickly. Meaning I can spend more time on the QL contents, less on the maintenance of appearance etc. That's the entire raisin d'etre of CSS. You can easily change the entire website look and feel without affecting the content! The only niggling bit is that Firefox browsers seem to ignore the font setting (sans-serif fonts specified but it always uses Times New Roman). This might be because you have it configured to use a TNR font instead of the one on the page or specified in the style sheet? (amazing what you can achieve in HTML layouts with just simple tables!). And even better what you can achieve without tables and with a little more CSS. Check out the CSS Zen Garden for a load of ideas. http://www.csszengarden.com/ Like I said before, it was pressure from my son which made me do this. Not that I'm getting old, you understand (50 in April 2010) but I remember when he was born! Cheers, Norman. ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

Time to ask Bruce if there is any way the list can generate two separate copies of the original email if you are convinced you are only sending one, Malcolm? Is there any chance you might be accidentally subscribed twice in any way? Perhaps Bruce could look at this? Dilwyn Jones Hi Dilwyn, I think that it was that I sent by Group Reply, rather than just Reply on recent occasions. Hence the TO and CC that you have noticed. However, separately from that, I always receive 2 copies of all emails from this list, to two different email addresses - my default and the ql one. So, maybe it is because I am somehow registered with the server, twice. -- Malcolm Cadman ___ QL-Users Mailing List http://www.q-v-d.demon.co.uk/smsqe.htm

Dilwyn Jones Hi Dilwyn, A nice, clean look - with the grey, white and black. Easy to navigate to a page, although a link back to the home page could be more prominent; as the main menu choice is only on the home page.
