OK, thanks.

I am not a user of OE, thankfully :-) ... I have Demon's Turnpike.

Although I hope that your tips are helpful to those having a similar
problem.

I know that AOL in early 2004 put in a spam blocking system at the ISP
before it reaches the user. Which has been quite effective ( although a

Maybe your email to the list was being treated as 'spam' ?

Yes as far as I can find out, the spam blockers they are using on port 25
are word specific, to the extent of becoming ludicrous.
Every forward to ourselves or others was blocked. Anything with a picture,
Any mail containing any one of a list of words a mile long. This email
woulde certainly be blocked.
Your ISP should be able to give you another smtp port no. The other simple
way to beat it is to use an address that is OK, On an address that is
afflicted, (on OE) goto accounts, select account, then servers, then at
bottom of page, ' My server requires authentication' tick box, then click
settings beside it, enter name and password for clear address. That will
direct the SMTP through clear account. So if its Freeserve blocking, enter a
freeserve account name and password.
Umm ... life isn't it ... ?

I suppose they will get it sorted, eventually.

no blocking. No problems..
OK if you have the level of access to be able to do that. Which has
obviously solved the problem.

It was Steve and Freddy Vaccha.

I was under the impression it was PD, I know Dave Gilham and Mark Knight
did work on it a few years ago to allow it to work with larger screen sizes
etc. under QPC or Aurora etc. The window could be configured to much larger
than 512x256, up to SVGA and beyond IIRC.
David does read this list. So he can provide the answer.

I had forgotten about the work on the larger screens ... must get a copy

Hi

Nice to hear plans to improve QL. How about QTPI. Though QL does
not connect
to Internet maybe QTPI could be updated so it would send SMS
messages to
mobile phones. Crazy?

Can do that now Ian (via soQL-PPP and QlwIP)

Just send an email to the mobile phone. I do it all the time with my
wife's phone (yep works even in the US... then again we have T-Mobile
;-)
Is that documented somewhere ? Or an article for QLToday ?

I am sure it would interest enough people.

There's no need for documentation per se. Almost 99.99% of all GSM
providers provides an email to SMS gateway to their clients...
ie you want to send an SMS to my Greek phone you send a mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Has to be kept under 127 characters usually but
works fine).

Same for my US phone you send a mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
there you have it I get an SMS on both phones.

There is a way (albeit poorly documented) to address SMS gateway
servers directly but why would you want to do that. soQL-PPP works
great with email anyway :-D (QlwIP does even more but since its not
available its irrelevant now)
Well, that explains more.

For myself, I am one of the few people not to own a mobile phone .

It's just me being cheap wry smile; family budget being tight, etc.
I've got a copy of QPC1 which, as I understand it, only works under DOS?
I was going to try it out on an old laptop (486 33MHz) which, I believe,
it was developed for but. my lovely 5 year old daughter broke the
ribbon cable connecting the screen to the system/keyboard.. hence a
DOS partition as, I don't think, QPC1 will work under XP (or anywhere
near it - probably DOS box configuration genius aside - too time
consuming)
When I get a round tuit I'll feedback how it works with 1GByte of DOS
RAM?!?
Yes, QPC1 does run on DOS. It will work fine with the 486 33MHz PC - I
have one just like it. The reward is that is faster then the original
QL, and you have access to a hard drive.

The author, Marcel, is on this list and can give you any advice required
I am sure, just ask.

There are also some upgrades to QPC1 available on the web that make it
behave with more colours, etc. I forget who wrote those ... ? And I
haven't tried them myself.

When you get it installed on a PC in DOS with XP it should zoom along,
relatively. However QPC2 is well worth investing in, as it works as a
program in Windows, which means of course that you can use it alongside
other software installed. It also has access to all your devices ...
the PC hard drive is seen as 'DOS1_', and other hard drives as 'DOS2_',
etc. Also Removable Media, CD-Rom's etc.

You can use it as a Window program in Windows, or let it take over the
whole machine. A lot of different resolutions available, and new colour
drivers.

Finally, no, I'm not familiar with the newer software - I left off with
Pointer Environment QPAC2, on 4meg SuperGoldCard with 2 31/2 inch floppy
disk drives and an amber monitor with an LC10 dot matrix. Got me through
my HND Computer Studies!
Not bad though ... the PE is required for the latest software.

Thanks again to the QUANTA community for getting me through those times.
My future intentions are a return to UNIX via Linux and running modern
QL software on it (or does the modern QL software no longer require
another Operating System to run an emulator - I guess I should read more
of the posts to this list and I'd know grin
SMSQ has taken over from QDOS for many users, so will need that too. For
a modest cost you will be upgraded.

There are many readers on this list who also use UNIX / Linux, so you
will not be alone ... :-)

Good luck with whatever you do, and welcome to the list again.

Try to install the Via 4 in 1 driver (Although get the latest version
from your mainboard manufacturer's website).
Get it from VIA web site - they are usually more up to date and work
with all VIA chipsets.
Since your board is fine and the printer is fine, the driver ABSOLUTELY
cannot be wronged... Epson printers may be a lot of things but their
drivers are okay.
Well not really. I had one which managed to turn off the port in the
BIOS (God knows how but it was repeatable) during the installation so it
never worked. The problem is that EPSON had a period of actually
installing their own printer port onto the system and dislodging the one
that the system set up. This was so that the Status Monitor could sit
between the printer and the PC. Caused no end of problems.
