[ql-users] US QL Show Oct 8-9 2005 canceled

2005-09-26 Thread Bill Cable
As many of you know Al Boehm suffered a serious stroke this summer. He was the
organizer of the US QL show. He is slowly recovering but still is partially
paralyzed on his left side. I spoke with him by phone two days ago and he
appointed me to decide what to do. The original Motel picked as the show site
has changed hands and can not be located by its original name. I am not aware of
anyone coming to this show at present. If anyone is please contact me. I am
canceling the show as originally set up although we may have a small meeting in
the Boston area at Al's daughters house on Oct 9th although that has not been
decided for sure. We may schedule another show for the spring of 2006 in the
Boston area.

Hi Darren,

Although I will buy 2, if you think the 15 pounds (~$30) price is accurate then
I will pledge to buy 10 if you needed me to. If you can get several other
pledges then your risk will be reduced enough so you might give it a try. It
will be a lot of work to bundle the software with a good interface but I bet
there is enough of a market to consume 100 units over time. There could be a
linux version too. Great Christmas presents to those wayward QLers we all know.
Of course once a buyer has one he could easily make copies for the price of the
stick but a logo on yours would make them special.

NASUG is pleased to announce 2005 US QL show in Fitchburg, Mass.; 25 miles west
of Boston. Site near Fitchburg Econolodge. Exact site and times to be
announced soon. In the meantime, attendees can make reservations and room
selection at www.econolodge.com at $49.90/night.

Fitchburg is the prettiest place on earth in the fall due to the change of fall
leaf colors. It is something everyone should see at east once in their
lifetime. Fitchberg is at the east end of route 2 and is one of the prettiest
scenic drives in America. It runs through the Massachusetts Berkshires with
breathtaking views.

Al Boehm had a successful caratid artery surgery. He is on the road to recovery
for some left side paralysis. He is now able to eat food again and is regaining
strength every day.

[ql-users] Al Boehm had a stroke

2005-04-05 Thread Bill Cable
Just wanted everybody to know that Al Boehm had a stroke while he was visiting
his daughter in California. I think he had a slight stroke first and then must
have had surgery which had complications. I will pass on any more news as I
get it.

-- Bill

I am Al Boehm's daughter, Lois. I am responding to my Dad's e-mail's as he
unfortunately suffered a major stroke while in surgery this last week. He
has had a variety of complications and is still in ICU. He lost use of the
left side of his body but still has his verbal skills and even started to joke
with us a bit last night. He even remebered his e-mail password which allowed
me to get into his account. Please keep him in your prayers. I will keep
you updated on any major changes.

Re: [ql-users] QWord payment

2005-01-10 Thread Bill Cable

 I was at an Ohio
swapmeet in July and there were 400 traders, most with classic bikes.

There were 1000 traders. You could not possibly walk it all in a day. The
organizers are so happy they have doubled the fee to be a trader. See
www.vintagefocus.com to learn something about vintage motorcycle and otherwise
events in the US. There is a big yearly vintage show in Germany and Italy (must
be one in the UK). I would like to attend them some year. Hopefully there will
be a nearby QL show for me to attend at the same time. Back on subject.

Mind you Bill Cable has spare -cars-

No he doesn't... they just grow in his land :-P (And they are all in New
England Fall colours as well (red, green, rust-yellowish etc... :-)

Sorry to say I have had to pass a few on to other tinkerers. Better to recycle
as much as possible I say. Not all Americans drive big new SUVs or even think
that makes any sense. But I still have a pretty good collection of VW Rabbit
diesels. And they do blend in quite nicely with the fall colors and when snow
comes you don't even know they are there. But contrary to rumors they do not
multiply when left to their own devices in the woods. And yes Tony and Phoebus
the black Saab is still going strong although I have not be able to duplicate
the speed Phoebus coaxed out of it on I95.

This time I'm sure you're all wrong.
The best and most delicious beers are BELGIAN beers, of course!
 Hundreds of them.
To prove you wrong I'll bring some to Eindhoven in October (QL2004)

I suggest a blind taste test like we once did with home brew beer or they do
with wine. Even in the US with lots of micro breweries we now have a choice of
quality beer. Wish I could be there to enter a few and taste a few. Use small
amounts for testing. From my experience after a few pints (or liters)
discriminating ability goes out the window. And of course the QL can be used to
record results and create a nice graph.

Put me down for 100 pounds. Plus 25 pounds a month towards living

I will do the same:

100 pounds plus 25 pounds a month towards living expenses for up to a year as I
am not clear as to the project definition but certainly willing to help fund
Nasta's effort. I imagine Dave can help in getting the USD to pounds most
effectively for people in the US wanting to help.

  1,000,000 million million
  1,000,000,000 billion milliard
  1,000,000,000,000 trillionbillion

Now I feel better the US budget deficit this year is only .5 billion USD.
Nothing to get excited about. Only 83 USD for every person on the planet.
I think Archive can handle the English billion but SuperBasic can not. That is
one reason it is good for accounting programs. To get back on topic.
