Friends Like Us

Some people have so many friends with whom they spend their time
But no one has a best friend who's as wonderful as mine!

You're there if I should need you and you never turn away...
I know I can depend on you at any time of day.

We've had our ups and downs, as nearly everybody does,
But problems never last for long with special friends like us.

So thanks for always being there, your friendship's strong and true...
And I just want to let you know I'm always there for you!

[RecipesAndMore] Re: update on anna-lynn

2008-06-28 Thread Nicole Cooke
HI
I understand your feelings...but what does it have to do with the doctor being
French...I think we should be careful with our comments, as I have had doctors
of different nationalities say worse and have never pointed out what language
they spoke.
As I live in Quebec, hearing something like that come from someone in the
US...is a little  hurtful.

[RecipesAndMore] Batting My Eyelashes

2008-06-28 Thread steve doyle
Batting My Eyelashes

A baby camel asked his mother, Why do we have such large hoofs on our feet?

She turned to him. God made us that way for a very special reason, and she
began her explanation. The big hoofs are to keep us from sinking into the
sand.

Oh! So why do we have long eyelashes?

It's to protect our eyes from the sand.

Why the big humps?

That is to store fat and have enough energy to go long distances in the hot
desert!

I see! the baby camel stretched his neck and looked up at his mother, The
big hoofs are to keep from sinking into the sand, the long eyelashes are to
keep the sand out of our eyes, and the humps are to store energy to travel long
distances, then what are we doing in this cage in the middle of a zoo?

Like the camel, I had asked the same kind of questions. When my blindness set
in, I initially locked myself in a cage of self-pity and bitterness.

Weary from pacing within that gloomy cage, something nudged me to see beyond my
circumstance and unfortunate plight.

Heavens! What was I thinking? Those bars were self-imposed. But worst of all,
I'd supported them with the cold metal of my negative attitude.

Eventually, eagerness to leave my stuffy cell of discontent prompted me to open
my ears to hear a reassuring whisper, God had created me for much more.

Itching to break free, I broke down those bars and stepped out into the desert
of life. I trudged through the heat with determination and drive. I endured the
blistering sun with perseverance and tenacity. I quenched my thirst with fresh
inspiration and encouragement. And the hooves of confidence kept me from
sinking into the sand of insecurity.

Thinking ahead, I made sure I'd stored a healthy supply of wisdom and positive
attitude to take me through the long haul.

Goodness gracious. Each time I reached another point in my journey, my eyes saw
a whole new world with opportunities to make a difference.

Best of all, I was delighted with the affirmation that I was indeed created for
much more!

Bars come in all sizes and shapes. Some are physical, others are emotional or
even mental. But none can withstand the force of determination that breaks them
down. The effort is worth it and the results, simply amazing!

So, batting my long eyelashes to keep out the sand of discouragement, I
challenge you:

Step back and peek at what bars limit you. Take a deep breath, break them down,
and emerge into the freshness of a new life!

Life is not about what you cannot do because of circumstances out of your
control. Success comes when you recognize what you can do with what God has
given you.

A single candle can illuminate an entire room. A true friend lights up
an entire lifetime. Thanks for the bright lights of your friendship.

[RecipesAndMore] Five Fabulous Fall Beverages In the Slow Cooker

2008-06-28 Thread delma bliss

Five Fabulous Fall Beverages In the Slow Cooker

As the air takes a brisk turn, it's time to start thinking about ways to
celebrate the autumn season. And what better way to take the chill off than
with
a warm beverage that has been simmering in the slow cooker all day long?

A warm drink can be a festive accompaniment to all of your favorite fall
activities, from tailgating to trick-or-treating, raking leaves (well maybe
that
one is not such a favorite but at least a drink in hand will make it a
little more fun), to hauling in some freshly cut firewood and lighting up
the fireplace
for the first time this season.

When you head to the pumpkin patch to pick out your annual Halloween jack o'
lantern, make sure to pick up a few jugs of fresh apple cider as well.
Simmered
for hours with cinnamon sticks, a clove studded apple, and other spices,
this brew is a surefire way to scare the spooky out of all the little ghouls
and
goblins that might be visiting you this year.

You can also serve this hot spiced cider to your more grown up guests spiked
with a little spiced rum if you like. In fact, I love hot apple cider so
much, that when my husband and
I had our wedding in October (and it was a brisk, damp October day), we
welcomed our guests with steaming glasses of it.

As it starts to get even colder, and the holiday season approaches (which,
to many retailers, is right now!), rich peppermint scented hot chocolate is
the
perfect thing. Served with bowls of garnishes such as marshmallows, whipped
cream, and chocolate shavings on the side, this is the ideal beverage to
serve
to your family and friends at a holiday open house. And the slow cooker will
keep it warm in an out-of-the-way spot where your guests can serve
themselves.

If you want to serve a beverage that is a bit more grown up, you can try
your hand at mulling your own wine. A couple bottles of wine and some
mulling spices
are a great combination that will only improve over time. To add a bit of
zip, you can include some citrus zest. For this drink, you don't have to buy
one of the more expensive bottles in the wine shop. A reasonable, medium
bodied red that is a little spicy and fruity, such as red Zinfandel, will do
just
the trick.

For those days that you are not feeling up to snuff, the hot toddy is the
perfect cure for what ails you. This blend of whisky or brandy with honey
and
lemon is reputed to have powerful cold fighting abilities. Although you may
not need to make a huge batch, the slow cooker is still a good way to go as
you can stay in bed instead of watching it, like you would if it were on the
stove.

You can serve any of these warm beverages at your next tailgating event, and
hot brewed Irish coffee is another one that will surely be a welcome option.
If you have a plug-in adaptor for your car, even better. You can set your
slow cooker (or multiple slow cookers) up along with the rest of your
spread.
This will avoid the frozen beer syndrome that my husband experienced at the
sub-zero playoff game of his favorite football team a couple of years ago.

Stay toasty this fall season and fill your home with a lovely fragrance by
serving one of your favorite warm beverages cooked in the slow cooker!

2008-06-28 Thread Angelique in Texas

Potato Supper Dish
2lbs. of potatoes
1 small tin of beans in brine (no points) 2oz. grated cheese
2 rashers of bacon
1 oz of fat
a pinch of curry powder
1 leek (or chive or spring onion)
Next time you boil potatoes cook an extra 2lbs. and put them on one

the other and dice them about half an inch. Mash 1 1/2 with fork while
they are still hot, and put aside to cool, and add salt.
Grease a shallow dish and cover the bottom with rasping (bread crusts
browned in he oven and crushed). Press in some of the mashed potatoes,
and make the rest into 12 balls to be covered with raspings. Put 11
round the dish and keep one for the centre.
Now mix with the diced potatoes a pinch of curry powder, add a small tin
of beans (drained), and season with pepper (no salt).
Add the grated cheese and leek with which has previously been cut up,
and put in the bacon - cut into small pieces.
Place the odd ball in he centre of the dish and pour on the fat
(margarine or bacon fat) and bake in a moderate oven for 30 minutes.
Before serving, decorate with a little parsley and make a Victory V with
grated carrot.
The potato water and liquid from beans can be made into soup.

There Are Angels

There are angels in the Heavens.
There are angels on the ground.
There are angels all around you,
Just waiting to be found.

So when you are feeling lonely
Or just a little blue,
Open your eyes to see the angels.
They are there, waiting for you.

Don't forget about these angels
During all of your good times too,
For they like to share your happiness
And the joys, that come to you.

They will wrap their wings around you,
To protect and guide you through
All the sad and tragic moments
That this life can throw at you.

They are sent to you from Heaven
From the Almighty Father above.
So remember to look for the angels.
They'll show you that God is Love.

A single candle can illuminate an entire room. A true friend lights up
an entire lifetime. Thanks for the bright lights of your friendship.

[RecipesAndMore] Euro Pork

2008-06-28 Thread Angelique in Texas

Euro-Pork

Serving Size : 4
Preparation Time :0:15
Ingredients:
4 pieces boneless pork top loin -- beaten
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon chives -- diced
1 tablespoon parsley
1 teaspoon basil
1/2 cup Madeira
1 dash salt
1 dash pepper
Beat a few boneless pork chops or whatnot into a senseless pulp with
hammer - or don't - it's not absolutely necessary but it is a good way
to take out your frustrations. Dump olive oil in a pan and heat it up a
bit (medium heat is usually enough) and then put chops in, dash with
salt and pepper (this is essential). Fry the chops until they brown or
caramelize. That is: make sure there is some brown stuff stuck to the
bottom of the pan. Don't worry, you won't have to scrape it out later.
Remove chops. Add chives, parsley and basil to the brown stuff on the
bottom and let it heat for about 30 seconds or a minute. Then add the
Madeira. Stir it around while still heating until most - but not all -
of the wine has boiled away. Then dump the resulting sauce on the pork
chops. It's now ready to go. This is one of the few quick meat, entre'
recipes, and this stuff cools fast - so make sure everything else is
done about the time you start this dish.
WARNING: Do not put the Madeira in the pan at the same time the chops
are there. For some reason the results yield an unpleasant mushiness to
the pork.
Suggested Wine: Any beer from a green bottle.
Serving Ideas : Good with rice. Farmhouse broccoli and cheese is good.

THERE'S ALWAYS THAT ONE MEMORY THAT JUST WON'T GO AWAY

6 tablespoons bread crumbs
1 dash pepper
1 dash parsley
1 dash basil
1 tablespoon dried onions
My wife insists that I lays down a layer of aluminum foil in the base of
a baking pan before I begin. It saves her some scrubbing down the road.
Sprinkle a layer of bread crumbs over the foil and lay pork chops on top
of them. Dash on the spices, then sprinkle on the rest of the bread
crumbs.
Put in oven at 400 degrees. Bake for 30 - 45 minutes.

[RecipesAndMore] Potatoes O'Diana

2008-06-28 Thread Angelique in Texas

Potatoes O'Diana

Serving Size : 8
Preparation Time :0:15
Ingredients:
32 oz bag of frozen hash brown potatoes
8 oz sour cream
1 onion
2 oz of cheddar cheese - shredded
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 stick of butter or margarine
Spread out potatoes in a 9X13 baking pan. Since the hash browns are
frozen there may be some big chunks stuck together. Break these up while
they are still in the bag. However, don't get carried away. I have
slammed a bag down on the floor with a throw that The Body Ventura
would have envied. Yes, the potatoes were broken up as intended, but
they were also scattered all over the kitchen, which was not intended.
Melt the butter or margarine, then spread it over the frozen potatoes.
Slice and chop the onion. Spread it over the potatoes as well. Now, in a
separate bowl (I hate this separate bowl business - it just makes for
more cleanup - unfortunately, in this case it is necessary.) mix the
mushroom soup, the sour cream and most of the cheese. Ladle this onto
the top of the potatoes and spread as evenly as possible.
Finally, sprinkle on the cheese you have left and stick pan into a 400
or so degree oven for an hour, perhaps longer depending on if you like
crunchy, browned or blackened bits of potatoes.

THERE'S ALWAYS THAT ONE MEMORY THAT JUST WON'T GO AWAY
