Re: [Red5] Small bug in RTMPConnection.java - timeout - one line fix.

Hi Adam,

You can attach a patch to a new ticket on http://jira.red5.org and
someone will review it.

Thanks,

Thijs

On Aug 24, 2007, at 3:50 PM, Adam wrote:

 So I found my app was taking a long time to index these
 files, which meant that it was timing out. No problem,
 thinks I, I'll just increase the timeout value in the
 red5.properties file.

 But it was to no avail! It coninued to timout, even when
 the rtmp.max_inactivity was set well high.

 Further investgation shows that RTMPConnection.java
 compares (lastPingSent - lastPongReceived  maxInactivity)
 to see if there's a timeout. Which is fine if it's
 ever recieved a ping reply, but if not even the first
 ping is replied to then lastPongReceived is still zero,
 so the comparison drops through to the code to close
 the inactive connection whatever the value of max_inactivity.

 This can be fixed with one line of code inserted into the
 ping() function to set lastPongReceived as well as lastPingSent
 if it's setting the value for the first time.

 One line does the trick:
  if(lastPingSent==0){lastPongReceived = System.currentTimeMillis
 ();}

 IE the pong function was:
 --
 public void ping() {
 Ping pingRequest = new Ping();
 pingRequest.setValue1((short) Ping.PING_CLIENT);
 lastPingSent = System.currentTimeMillis();
 int now = (int) (lastPingSent  0x);
 pingRequest.setValue2(now);
 pingRequest.setValue3(Ping.UNDEFINED);
 ping(pingRequest);
 }
 --

 But a working version would read:

 --
 public void ping() {
 if(lastPingSent==0){ lastPongReceived =
 System.currentTimeMillis(); }
 Ping pingRequest = new Ping();
 pingRequest.setValue1((short) Ping.PING_CLIENT);
 lastPingSent = System.currentTimeMillis();
 int now = (int) (lastPingSent  0x);
 pingRequest.setValue2(now);
 pingRequest.setValue3(Ping.UNDEFINED);
 ping(pingRequest);
 }
 --

 Can someone drop that into the main trunk? Or let me know
 where I should post the fix if this maillist isn't good enough?

 Thanks.

Here's a code snippet to check the available modes for your cam.

fps=15; //Try other values
cam = Camera.get();
for (w=100;w1000;w=w+20){
  for (h=100;h1000;h=h+20){
  cam.setMode(w,h,fps);
  if ((w + x + h)==(cam.width + x + cam.height)){
trace(cam.width + x + cam.height +  @  + cam.fps);
}
}

I found this on Fabio Sonnati's blog @ http://

Some webcams do 160x120, 320x200 320x240 and that's it.
Some can do 352x288, 640x480 or even 800x600.
This totally depends on the driver (in case of a capturecard/
external videosource) or on the webcam.

Try to use the native FPS of the source (using Camera.setMode
(width,height,Camera.fps) ) to select as safe as possible the
desired resolution. Check afterwards the width and height to see if
you actually were able to

switch to the desired resolution.

 Excellent stuff. My time looks about the same - 1400 millisecs on my
 windows xp 1.86ghz pentium m laptop.

 Our code is definitely miles faster that what's in the tree at the
 moment. If it is all right with you, i'll go through the code you sent
 me and try to integrate our ideas into a patch for Red5. I'll get that
 into the Jira bugtracker. I've already talked to the Red5 devs and
 they
 sound very positive about an integration of our code into their

 Nice work!

 I meant his system doesn't handle rtmp in a stable manner. The

Re: [Red5] instable port correction

True, that's a client side thing but being able to run all protocols
on all ports isn't possible with Red5 atm and that's what we're
looking for..

Quote from Joachim in APPSERVER-124:

The fallback from RTMP to RTPMT is done by the client, not the
server. And of course you can setup Red5 to run on port 1935 (RTMP)
and 80 (RTMPT). Just edit conf/red5.properties and restart the server.

What you probably want is a possibility to run all protocols on any
port - this is an enhancement and not that easy as we have different
networking libraries for RTMP and RTMPT (HTTP).

Let me know what you think.

 the solution is to generate a own webwar using ant webwar NOT ant

 We have it implemented properly into our video players, although there
 is a flex panel to re-select the bitrate option aswell. what I do is
 send the player a range of bitrates which would be available for a
 particular video as a string then get the detected bitrate and choose
 the right one from the given list of rates. Ie we'd only have files
 named videoID-bitrate.flv so 38,100,180,300,512,768 is our string of
 allowed rates. If the bitrate is 1-2MB it would get the 768 then down
 from there.

what version of Red5 are you using?
You can always create a ticket on http://jira.red5.org if you think

Re: [Red5] SimpleRecorder - 2 versions

2007-06-25 Thread Thijs Triemstra | Collab
Hi Jens,

 Hi - im brand new to Red5 - I'm wondering, because the
 SimpleRecorder in the samples-folder (that one with the embedded
 Actionscript) is only working, if started from Flash. When I
 implement it into HTML it doesn't work anymore...

Can you show us the html implementation/wrapper you're trying to use?

 When I'm using the other SimpleRecorder in the DEV_Source folder
 (thatone with the external ActionScript) it works in Flash and
 embedded in HTML - Why? And more important: what do I have to do to
 make that one in the samples-folder working? I'm absolutely
 desperate, because I've modified that a lot - and now I'm realising
 that it doesn't work... :(

I'll add some html files for the demo's, thanks for the suggestion.

Re: [Red5] Question about AMF Remote Objects

Hi Lenny,

here are some pages with info about AMF:

http://osflash.org/documentation/amf
http://livedocs.adobe.com/flashremoting/mx/Using_Flash_Remoting_MX/
intro2.htm

  I have worked with using remote objects successfully with the
 Video Conference app I have
 but have no idea how this would work with AMF.

RemoteObject is used for AMF connections in Flex/MXML, and I think
you're probably using Remote SharedObjects in your application.

 Is there an example somewhere of how you register a class for use in

 I've just been checking out the Red5 subversions, rather than using

 Could someone please be kind enough to post their copy back on the

Re: [Red5] Port Tester Application Crashing

2007-05-28 Thread Thijs Triemstra | Collab

Hi Dominick,

what version of the Flash Player are you using? Does it also crash
with the standalone player? Are you using the latest version of Red5?
Versions prior to 0.6 didn't timeout when a client tried to connect
to the rtmpt port that wasn't enabled, causing the port tester app to
crash after a while. Red5 now times out after 5 seconds and this
should prevent the app from crashing.

 I'm thinking that this could be because it's executing on a thread

 even important to do it asynchronously here, as it's already on a
 seperate thread and not blocking the rest of the app. Any thoughts?

 Hi,
 If u want to get rtmps working you'll have to use stunnel or
 something similar,
 you'll find a post in the jiira thingy, and at stunnel.org
 red5 doens't support rtmps directly, you hav to make an rtmp over
 https
 connection.
 But so far no one has arrive to get it working, I myself could make

 you'll have to fight hard :-D

 Hello,

 I'm still stucked with the ports problem described below.

 Daniela advised me to an adobe article (thank you Daniela)

 http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_16631

 In the adobe article is mentioned that flash media server tries out
 differnt ports (443 and 80) automatically, which leads to 96 %
 success in practice.

 For me it seems that Red5 is not doing this automatically.

 In the article is described how to set the port manually. With Red5
 this works only for port 8088, which is the standard tunneling port
 for Red5.

 Since a wide number of firewalls have blocked that port, I still
 need to know how to use port 80 or 443.

 Can anyone help me?

 I guess most of the Red5 user have this problem, but I never found
 it discussed in this newsletter before?.

 Best Regards

 Falk

 Hello,

 in the 'red5.properties' are all port settings.

 Can anyone help me how I change the ports, that red5 doesn't fail
 with
 exceptions on start-up, and passes the rtmp video stream the
 corporate
 firewalls, which mostly only have port 80 open?

 Best Regards

 You have to use rtmpt protocol on port 80.

Re: [Red5] Best live capture setup for standalone machine

2007-04-15 Thread Thijs Triemstra | Collab

You're missing a parameter for setMode. From the docs:

public function setMode(width:int, height:int, fps:Number,
favorArea:Boolean = true):void

so you're using cam.setMode(720,576,false) and that should be
cam.setMode(720,576,15,false)

var client_cam = Camera.get();
client_cam.setMode(720,576, false);
client_cam.setQuality(0, 75);
var client_mic = Microphone.get();
client_mic.setRate(22);

I only getting about 2 fps on average.

Any suggestions on improving this? hardware, pc or red5 tweaks etc..

 codec.ScreenVideo is that the best codec to use or can it be set to
 sorenson? Probably a stupid question.
 Red5 always seems to say this. If you're publishing() a NetStream out

This shows, that problem is not connected with MINA, maybe with

You can also use the debian as a guideline i guess, it's on svn in

Let us know if you come up with something, maybe you could create
package for RHEL, right now only Debian is supported.

 All,

 Does anyone have an init.d script which can be installed on RHEL or
 CentOS to start and stop the Red5 0.6rc2 server? I'd love to be
 able to
 have the service start on boot and/or be able to use the
 'chkconfig' and
 'service' command to control running the server:

 service red5 start
 service red5 stop
 chkconfig --level 345 red5 on

 I have the /etc/init.d/fcs script for Flash Comm Server and thought I
 might be able to use it as a guideline to build my own for red5,
 but if
 this list already has something it would sure save me the time and
 hassle and I wouldn't be surprised if it was better than anything I'd
 come up with.

 Thanks!

The site claims that it comes standard with p2p technology so I

I don't think you can do anything more about the 2.325 seconds. The

post it here since it took me some time in the Flash debugger
figuring it out and I haven’t seen it mentioned elsewhere on the web.

Once you have red5 running, place some mp3s in the oflaDemo/streams
folder. Download the player (http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?
item=Flash_Video_Player). Modify the playlist.xml file like so:

track

titleI’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail/title

creatorBuck Owens/creator

locationrtmp://localhost/oflaDemo/location

identifiertiger-by-the-tail.mp3/identifier

/track

The key addition is the element ‘identifier’. The flash video
samples on oflaDemo play properly with the ID in the url (localhost/
oflaDemo?id=Spiderman3_trailer_300) but the MP3s do not play unless
you add the identifier element.

Hope this helps some future red5ers.

 Yep, and this was done in r1760 ;) FME can now connect and broadcast
 to Red5!

 FME seems to be not too stable, at least it crashed a lot of times
 with AVs while trying to connect it to Red5. They seem to expect
 certain objects (like the response to connect) to be serialized
 in a given order, so that took a while to figure out...

Re: [Red5] NetStream bytesLoaded bytesTotal variables

2007-03-15 Thread Thijs Triemstra | Collab
There is no such thing as bytesLoaded or bytesTotal when streaming.
Instead you’re going to have to check ns.time to figure out how long
you’ve been playing the stream and where you are. So use x=ns.time/
totalduration to display where the movie has reached playing. You can
find the totalduration of the movie using ns.onMetaData()

I couldn't find any reference to this in Jira . Is this a bug ?

When streaming an flv from RED5 using a flash swf the bytesLoaded and
bytesTotal variable of the NetStream object are always zero. This is a
common technique used to display download to cache progress so I would
of thought quite important functionality. The same code works fine for
dowloading the file just from apache.

Hello,

I figured out how to use Jeroen Wijering’s Flash Video Player for
streaming mp3s in playlist mode using the oflaDemo. I thought I’d
post it here since it took me some time in the Flash debugger
figuring it out and I haven’t seen it mentioned elsewhere on the web.

Once you have red5 running, place some mp3s in the oflaDemo/streams
folder. Download the player (http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?
item=Flash_Video_Player). Modify the playlist.xml file like so:

track

titleI’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail/title

creatorBuck Owens/creator

locationrtmp://localhost/oflaDemo/location

identifiertiger-by-the-tail.mp3/identifier

/track

The key addition is the element ‘identifier’. The flash video
samples on oflaDemo play properly with the ID in the url (localhost/
oflaDemo?id=Spiderman3_trailer_300) but the MP3s do not play unless
you add the identifier element.

Hope this helps some future red5ers.

Dear folks:

Each time I getRemote, the sharedobject is renewed and I can't read
the history from it.

//The code is:

soChat = SharedObject.getRemote( ChatHistory, nc.uri, true );
soChat.addEventListener( NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS,
netStatusHandler );
soChat.addEventListener( AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR,
asyncErrorHandler );

soChat.addEventListener( SyncEvent.SYNC, sharedObjectSyncHandler );
soChat.client = this;
soChat.connect(nc);
txtChatBox.text=String(soChat.data.history);

//When I send the msg, the history is set. It should have been
stored in the sharedobject and have been read once more. However,
it isn't.

soChat.size is always 0 when reconnect.

What's wrong with it?

Thanks!
Sand
